IRT fiction vs reality; I’ve thought the same thing regarding glips art depicting abusive sexual situations. Art where a character is verbally or physically abusing and manipulating another character wouldn’t be an issue, if they didn’t irl verbally abuse and manipulate people all the time. And if they acknowledged that art as what it was, depicting rape or abuse or whatever, instead of denying it the way they’ve denied irl allegations (until they’re proven true, then they go into victim mode and shirk all responsibility of their actions and words and blame everyone else..)
Like. Having a rape kink is fine. and even somewhat normal! It can be a brains way of getting control back over their autonomy in fantasy. Bdsm works IF it is safe, sane, and consensual! It’s okay to have fetishes concerning degradation etc. But, like, instead of those things just being a fantasy kink with a safe difference from reality, or being part of a Safe, Sane, Consensual BDSM situation, which isn’t my business and totally valid, its now become clear that art was a reflection of their real life harmful behavior actions and words. When someone tells you who they are, and shows they are bringing the harmful fiction into reality, you shouldn’t just look the other way.
As it has been proven from their own words, their beast art was a reflection of their real life interactions, and not just ‘fantasy’ like they claimed for so long. Denying that mismatched depicts rape - despite describing it that way previously - shows that they don’t take rape seriously and will twist it to fit their current narrative. Which they’ve done, before, multiple times to actual people. It’s right in line with their gaslighting the real victims of marl, Iz, opa, etc.

I mean I think people should curate their own fandom experience and whatnot and it's perfectly fair to just avoid things one is uncomfortable with...
That being said. From personal experience? Immunizing myself to all my discomforts by browsing through pixiv and kink memes with raised eyebrows while searching for things I am interested in back when tagging was non-existent has really made my fandom experience much more pleasant nowadays.
I have preferences, for sure. But I have no fear. I have no cringe. The filthiest, grossest fanwork holds no powers over me. I am a god.
Like honestly dl;dr and block on sight is respectable and all but I genuinely think everyone could just benefit from purposefully exposing yourself to your nOTP and non-triggering squicks sometimes? (And obviously don't go bother the creators for it.) If only so that it makes it easier/safer to search for content you like without living in fear of accidentally glimpsing something you hate and having that ruin your day.

People know that the whole "don't portray [harmful action] because viewers might recreate it" thing is a rule for children's shows right? It's supposed to be shit like "don't show peppa pig playing with fire so we don't get sued if a kid watches it and burns their house down." Not like, fanfiction for adults.

wait you understand that kinks are ok because they're fantasies that make you happy right? you all get that you don't need to have trauma for your kinks to be okay? right? like none of you think i witnessed a tragic accident on the pool toy assembly line right?

bothers me that people treated (and still treat) the issue with poppy depictions of c!prime wrong like the issue is that they’re breaking set boundaries for the creators and also like the insane amount of grooming in poppy spaces. it’s not, like, the depiction of csa At All. it’d not be okay to write that for current c!prime bc it’d break boundaries but if the creators wanted to write that it’d have been like, fine? depicting it isn’t the issue it's being weird and also being in a space full of actual factual child groomers

Traumautized people are going to produce traumautized artwork.
Whether it's a person writing about pedophilic / incestuous relationships in their fanfiction
Or a person painting horrible gore
Art is a coping mechanism. Art does not translate always to beliefs or instructions.
Someone writing a fanfiction about a pedophilic relationship is almost always a way to process their emotions about whatever may have happened to them, and that is okay and beautiful.
Love your art, it probably helped you in many ways

so i've been on both sides of drawing kink art gifts & comms / asking for kink art commissions. it strikes me that there's not a lot of conversation out there on how to talk about sexual art, so!
few tips on keeping it professional and chill:
anytime you feel borderline uncomfortable, verbalize it kindly. earlier you mention it, earlier both of you can back up with minimal frayed nerves. if somebody repeatedly violates hard, explicitly stated boundaries, call it off. (pay attention to your instincts too.)
one of my favorite tricks is always leave the other person an "out". let's say they're OK drawing dubcon, and you're asking for a borderline dubcon/noncon comm, and you're not quite sure if they feel comfortable. you can say 'i'd love to see character A pinning B down and choking B out aggressively to the point it's noncon, but i'm totally flexible with dialing it down to milder dubcon'. succinct, gives room for the artist to try different scenarios/intensities, but also specific enough for them to understand you're not asking for something vanilla.
relatedly, it's a good idea to send a query email to the artist before asking about the comm if they're okay with ($taboo_kink) - for example i've been asked about my specific boundaries with fashkink especially when it comes to drawing certian uniforms. communication! (an example of that is that i'm theoretically OK drawing any uniform sexually but i won't draw certian symbols.)
on the reverse side, it's a good idea to lightly "vet" the person, whether it's the artist or the commissioner. if you're vetting a commissioner, see if they have a carrd or a twitter-esque-site where they show off past commissions, and check out those to get a sense of what they ask for repeatedly and to see if there's any potential yellow flags with how they interact with other people, or squicks of yours. if they're an artist with a gallery or homepage portfolio, check out their strengths and weaknesses.
sometimes artists will talk to their friends/peers in a much more casual/sexual tone than to non-friends. don't try to match that tone, keep it professional. a financial transaction is very different than years of history and in-jokes you might not be aware of.
it's okay to reference other pieces of their own that artists have done when you're asking for commissions. 'i really like what you did with the character's mouth in (x drawing from a year ago), if you could incorporate some of that here that'd be awesome.'
also keep in mind what an artist is willing to draw may be very different than what they're willing to post. some artists and commissioners may want to keep the kink art 100% private. others have no problem sticking it on all social media - it's one of those questions that needs a mutual decision before the final payment. both sides need to be sensitive to this, and to respect limits. let's say an artist draws somebody's self insert -- this goes doubly so there, since it's so personal.
just because an artist is drawing for you doesn't mean they're your personal sex worker to type unrelated stuff to. describing what you want in your comm is A-OK, but going off five paragraphs unprompted into your unrelated kink or emotional issues is ... not. i personally don't get this problem but it's talked about a lot in my artist circles. b o u n d a r i e s. (now if it's prompted, and you're comfortable with it, that's a different story. maybe an artist is trying to figure out what specifically about the scenario makes you tick, so they can give you the best work.)
artists love details. there's a difference between micromanaging (especially repeated asks for edits) versus providing ample details up front. even the smallest detail like "i'd like to see character's dick leaning to the left noticeably" is fantastic and genuinely useful body language nuance to a creative.
let's say you as an artist have an ask for something that's borderline a squick, maybe it's something you only found out after thinking about it a bit (it happens! my motto is to draw everything once, which means i've run unintentionally into personal squicks before). if it's still a work that you still want to finish, one of my favorite tricks is to say 'you know, I don't think i'm capable of drawing $kinkthat'sasquick to the degree of quality you deserve, can we compromise with $slightlyalternativekink?' you can do this couching the act more as an implication, strategically having a limb breaking the viewpoint line, etc.
if it won't break the bank, tip your artists. I only found out about this in the last 5 years or so, but it really is good practice to tip your creatives.
