❝ i’d tell you not to get in trouble, but i suspect it will find you whether you like it or not. ❞ Freya @ sol
BALDUR’S GATE 3 STARTERS (PART 2)
“now i know i can be a little    ----”   well,   a lot   “----   argumentative.”   if he was difficult,   however,   he swore it was because he was trying to keep them all alive.   but arguing about his more unpleasant traits was neither here nor there.   “but,   come,   do you think i cause trouble with these harpers when we need them?”
since he had nearly brawled with the high harper only few hours earlier,   he hoped that she would not answer that.   he did not give the druid a chance,   continuing,   “i give the blacksmith my swords and look around the perimeter,  and perhaps have a drink or two.  no trouble to be found.”  was that so difficult to believe?

alas,   for the curiosity of wizards knew few bounds.  the quickest way to get one to do something was to tell them not to do it.  “what's the worst that could happen?”   lex asked.   “not that i'm really the type to play necromancer   ...”

BALDUR’S GATE 3 STARTERS (PART 2)
he could see that;   she'd practically jumped out of her skin when he lifted his voice to speak.   he did not speak such a thing,   of course,   nor feel the need to make any show of sarcasm or scorn   ---   or speak what could be construed as such.   “i ought to have made myself more readily known,”  he responded slowly,  apologetically.  he moved in closer,   taking her response as permission.  he hadn't even been trying to be silent.  he'd scarcely ever seen a creature so enthralled in her own thoughts.  what could trouble her so?
“i was going to say   ...”    he extended a hand,   holding out two sealed letters.  “the   ...”   hells,   what was it called?   “innkeep said these came for you a couple of hours past.”   and had been a right damned prick about it.  but she didn't need to know that.

BALDUR’S GATE 3 STARTERS (PART 2)
he ill liked the sound of her words,   cryptic as they were.   nonetheless,   she piqued his curiosity;   he tilted his head,  garnet eyes meeting hers with interest as he tried to consider her posture for hint of emotion.   nothing much surprised him anymore,   really,   anyway.   what was left after fighting constructs and illithids,   or having mind and body warped by a werebeast's bite?
“nothing i do not already know?”   the sellsword mused.   regardless of her   ...   quirks,   just a girl really,  wasn't she?  at the end of the day, what else?  “or should know?”  as if he was one to fucking talk.

❝ i thought you a hunter. wrong. you’re prey - small. snivelling. pathetic. ❞[ for sol. ]
BALDUR’S GATE 3 STARTERS (PART 2)
sol’rys scoffed.
(but she was right, wasn’t she?   pathetic,   desperate,   submissive,   swift to grovel to whoever may be of aid,  afraid.   he was no more than a cornered animal scrabbling for anything it could to free itself,  a desperate and weak creature pretending to be far stronger than it was.  it was simply her audacity and scorn which surprised him.)
“i am not a dog,”   he said softly,   recovering his venom.  his eyes were red and cold as gems.  forget that he had asked,   then.  “i will not be spoken to like one.  just say that you are useless to me without the insult.”

he must have drifted off,  it seemed,  lulled by the crackle of flame even as he busied himself with cleaning his swords.  his posture,  usually perfectly straight,  drooped.  his head sank low and his breaths slowed.  for a time,  all is silent,  peaceful.
the touch and weight of something around his shoulders,  however, sprang him from his stillness.  with a rush of fear and adrenaline he recoiled and twisted around.  face to face with her,  meeting those dark eyes (so unusual on another drow,  he thought,  so dark) and glancing at the cloth draped over his shoulders it took only a few shaky breaths to realize.
he did not know if he ought to apologize or grovel at her for startling,   or snarl at her for waking him.   he never knew what his place was with drow who did not worship the spider queen. instead,   flatly,  he said,    “well,   now i am awake.”

i think that the lycanthropy urge for violence or sudden losing control has very specific triggers depending on the person but again it is probably quite similar to bhaalspawn urges in the sense that it can also be either embraced or resisted.

∗ 46﹕ sender  pulls  receiver  out  of  harm’s  way .
he was only half-attentive to his surroundings,   half-distracted by the misery of the heat down in the grymforge,   half-distracted by the way the parasite twitched and twinged in his skull.   his head throbbed.  he moved down the however exposed corridor,  curious of the statues lining the path but not considering much else until a hand curled about his shoulder and yanked him back before he could take a step further.
irritated,   sol'rys turned on the tiefling,  though his red eyes followed the other man's gaze to the pressure plate on the floor.  that he'd narrowly avoided triggering a trap thanks to the tiefling's perceptiveness did not soften him.  “next time,”   he said,  sifting through his pack for his kit of disarming tools,   “trap or not,   do not do that again.”   hells,   to keep him alive or not,   if he wanted to be manhandled,  he would say so,   damn it!

the way it would probably seem most obvious to assume that sol doesn't read much bc common is not his first language, but he's so avoidant about being seen reading Anything in front of anyone that it's prob inadvertently drawn attention to for anyone paying attention. :/

35 @ fox!
𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝑵𝑶𝑵𝑽𝑬𝑹𝑩𝑨𝑳 𝑷𝑹𝑶𝑴𝑷𝑻𝑺 .
∗ 35﹕ sender  curls  up  against  receiver  in  their  sleep .
restless night.   the thief wasn't sure why,   but it was.   maybe it was just that he was uneasy still after they'd made it out alive from the creche that lae'zel had insisted they visit.   he hadn't wanted to kill anyone.  he certainly hadn't wanted to whet his daggers on an entire encampment.  as soon as vlaakith showed herself,   however,   he knew they were fucked.
he glanced at wish,   trying to discern if he was awake.  fox realized he looked a little too peaceful,   curled against his side,   breaths slow and gentle.   if he were being honest,   the tiefling bothered him,   too;   not necessarily in a terrible way,   but in a concerned sense,   unsure what to make of whatever plagued the other man,   if it was the tadpole or something else.
but for now he looked peaceful.   that was what mattered.   the temptation to get up,  to do something,  grudgingly faded.  he did not have it in him to disturb the other man.  fox shifted as subtly as he could onto his side,  and sighed.

∗ 6o﹕ sender claps a hand over receiver’s mouth to silence them . for sol'rys, r'ildryn then points to three large trolls heading their way, but they have not been seen yet.
𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝑵𝑶𝑵𝑽𝑬𝑹𝑩𝑨𝑳 𝑷𝑹𝑶𝑴𝑷𝑻𝑺 .
he was midway through an explanation on applications of lightning-enchanted arrows when    ----   suddenly    ----   the other clasped a hand over his mouth.   anger and an more vexed,   more vengeful urge to bite down,   to tear him apart for such audacity washed over him as cold as a night tide   ---   but he leashed it back as he saw the creatures.   he recognized the trolls,   verdant of flesh,   perhaps twice his own height even as they lumbered with hunched spines.   he did not wish to discover the bite of those claws,   or sharpness of those protruding teeth.
despite the irritation still shuddering through him,   the ranger went still.   his fingers pried the other drow's from his mouth,  rage burning still in garnet eyes.   he moved to sign his next thoughts,   though it occurred to him that he was uncertain if r'ildryn was familiar with the language.   he scowled.    “here,   off the path.   if we are lucky,  they pass right by.”   he hoped.  sol'rys tried to recall if he knew anything of the creature's sensory abilities, though nothing came to him. the most he could think of was that tremorsense seemed unlikely.
he would have to bite back his cursing until later,   it seemed.

been thinking about how travel in dragon's dogma 2 probably simulates well what traveling faerun is probably like (aside from faerun being more dense in terms of cities). travel takes a long time, sometimes (frequently) you're assailed by bandits and creatures, probably easier to pay a sellsword / company of sellswords to do things for you or make sure you actually survive along the way to wherever you need to get to.
