After 1 million years, I have finally finished Mourynn's hair timeline!! I intend to do the same for her outfit(s) later as well (as it changes to match her hair bc she wears customized cultural armour) but I'll do those one at a time. Tbh I'm just happy that I was somehow able to achieve the hairstyle I had originally been planning for her since her creation (side-swept/half "shaved" hairstyle) and doing this exercise filled in her character progress changes and eventually lead to what I originally wanted! (also the default swept back hair is surprisingly hard to replicate so uh, I had to figure out something easier for myself Anywho, I have some abridged summary details for each hairstyle/story chapter under the cut to give these a bit more context Edit: I MESSED UP SOMETHING WITH THE TEXT ON THE ICEBROOD SAGA BIT. NOOOOO

Living World 1/2 is kind of hilarious. Like, the Commander is still Trahearne's second-in-command, but they get to go off and do all of this stuff outside of Pact duty, while still retaining their position (and I imagine their pay, too).
The Pact are busy planning for Kralkatorrik and meanwhile the Commander is like 'I'm going to go set a hundred poisonous krait on fire'. Commander doesn't show up to one single meeting or briefing. They do nothing. They're still employed.
They show up to do Pact stuff maybe once or twice in S2, but it's mostly just Trahearne asking for small favours. The Commander still isn't doing their job. They are still getting paid. Everyone is going 'ooooh it's the Pact Commander they're so great'. The other commanders must be livid.
The Commander literally is just 'Trahearne I'm sorry but I have to chase after an omelette in the making' and the guy is just 'yeah it's okay don't worry join us whenever you're ready <3'.
The Commander doesn't respect their position. They're Trahearne's favourite; they can get away with never doing their job and still reaping all the benefits from their reputation and title.
Forget trophy wife/husband, they are Trahearne's Trophy Commander.

alright, just going to throw this out there for anyone else who, like me, has been waiting 10,000 years for it to go on sale:
Guild Wars: Eye of the North is currently $4.99 on Steam. I repeat, Guild Wars: Eye of the North is currently $4.99 on Steam.

I am not sure if this is common knowledge and that I am saying already known stuff, but Orrian location names are very much Arabic and I can only assume that is because of Orr being next to the Crystal Desert, which has actual mixes of Arabic elements in many corners of the game. Why do I know this? Because I have an Arab father, and I was raised in the Middle East as a muslim in an Arabic school.
When I was doing map completion yesterday on Henri, I noticed how some points of interests in Orr had ‘Al’ in them, and I immediately assumed it would be gibberish since that is all I find in western made media when it comes to anything ‘exotic’. Bring some sound, put ‘al’ in front of it, and voilà, you have ‘Arabic’ in your media. But no, I reread the names and realized that they actually have a translation, since the team actually written in a way that you can guess how it’s read in Arabic if you’re a native or have experience in native Arabic environments.
I will list all points of interests in Orr that I found that have Arabic and the most likely meant translation (as an Arabic speaker myself):
• Izz-al-Din Sarayi
With the context surrounding Orr’s lore and the Human lore + Charr/Human lore, this can very much be ‘عز الدين صراعي’. It’s a very blotchy sentence since it’s grammatically incorrect, but it basically means ‘I fight with pride for my religion’, ‘I battle with pride for my religion’. It makes sense because Humans are very religious in GW2, and Orr is even more so, while Charr denounce higher power and think Humans for shit. And they had a battle on Orr. BOOM.
• Din al-Jindi
This is a very clear one, words used in Arabic lessons a lot to form simple sentences. ‘دين الجندي’ which means ‘The soldier’s religion’.
• Bakkir Sarayi
Sounds like ‘بكّر صراعي’ or ‘بكير صراعي’, which sounds like ‘Early Battle’ in both. One’s just traditional and the other’s Lebanese dialect.
• Several PoIs in Malchor’s Leap having ‘Bayt’ in them
Which is just like the Grove having ‘House of Caithe’, ‘House of Niamh’ and so on. It’s again, grammatically incorrect, but Bayt means house or home. They even used Arabic names with them, but in wrong order. Still, to me this is like a very big thing.
• Zho'qafa Catacombs area
Sounds like ‘ذو كفه’ which is like ‘with his palms’, or could be with his stance, several different possibilities.
This may seem like a far reach for representation to some people, but these make sense, they mean something, so it can’t be a coincidence. I’m just happy Arabic was acknowledged in some way instead of the fake Arabic they use in media to make it seem ‘exotic’ or made as a parody.
Weeeeooooeeeeooooo

realistically if anet really wants to implement a new big money-making system for them and have something of a "renaissance" of the PoF era with how groundbreaking the mounts were, I really think it needs to be player housing. like, actual player housing and not just the fixed, uncustomizable "home" instances we have right now.
still make those instances the default, starter player homes, yeah... no need to get rid of them. but absorb them into a new housing system and make them more adaptable and customizable? and then have entirely unique homes we can buy via gems or astral acclaim or achievements or whatever. absorb some of the guild hall system into it, make it better, easier, and more fun. anet gets money and we get more shiny stuff to wage fashion war with.

it's never rly bothered me that HoT elite specs are the only ones to not have combat chatter (excluding reaper and tempest shouts) but sometimes i'll hear a line that sends me over the edge seething with jealousy foaming at the mouth malding what do u MEAN "time and space are my allies!" is for mirage jaunt and not chrono gravity well or continuum shift. in what world.

It’s almost 1:00 am and I woke up and I’m thinking. About angst. Trahearne angst.
Imagine the Commander, after HoT, returning to Trahearne’s office in Fort Trinity. They clear out his belongings, the dust that has built up only worsening the tears that threaten to spill. Trahearne’s familiar scent lingers still, and there’s one of his leaves lying on his desk.
It crumbles as the Commander touches it, and their heart breaks all over again.
And then, as they sort through the drawers - mostly official Pact documents and the like - something catches their eye.
A stack of poems, bound together in a beautiful golden string. The paper is ink-stained and worn but as the Commander picks it up, they can sense its strength. Written in elegant handwriting, golden ink, on the front page —
To the Commander, my greatest friend and ally. One day, I will find the courage to give you these poems. Until that day, I hope that you know that I love you dearly.
There is no holding back tears as the Commander flicks through them, pouring over Trahearne’s words as if, should they read them enough, it will bring him back. But the room remains silent, and their tears blot the ink.
