The Incredibles 2: Evelyn Deavor [INTP]

Evelyn Deavor (aka the Screenslaver) is the main villain of The Incredibles 2. She is an engineer who designs all sorts of really advanced technology for DevTech, the company run by her and her brother Winston Deavor. Though Winston is trying to help re-legalize superheroes and bring them back, Evelyn is secretly undermining his efforts by using hypnotic visual images to bring a group of supers under her control and then having them disrupt the conference where supers were supposed to be re-legalized, which would ruin the reputations of all supers. Her motive for this was how her and Winston’s parents relied on supers to save them from home invaders, but the supers didn’t answer the call because they had just been outlawed, so her father was murdered when he was discovered by the robbers (and her mother died a few months later). She concluded that had her father had gone with his wife into their safe room instead of trying to call the supers, he would have survived, and thus believes that everyone should rely on themselves for their safety, and not on supers.

Judging Axis (Introverted Thinking (Ti)/Extraverted Feeling (Fe)) - She tends to keep to herself and her projects. When she runs into new situations, she immediately analyzes them, like when Elastigirl was acting very silly in a depressurized airplan: “Ah, hypoxia! When you don’t have enough oxygen, things seem really silly…and then you die.” She frequently presents her conclusions on things, like how she thought Elastigirl was like her brother and how Elastigirl saving her didn’t make her right. In her analysis of her father’s death, she also exhibits disdain for her brother Winston’s support of supers: “There was a time when we had parents and superheroes! So, like a child, Winston conflates the two. Mommy and daddy went away, because supers went away.“ But despite her disdain for her brother, she is quite protective toward him; when she makes her getaway from a yacht she had set up to crash and kill everyone aboard, she tried bringing her brother along. She leaves her hair unkempt and often sits on the floor, and has little interest in most social interaction, only engaging in it when it suits her purpose. She shows her disregard for those of lower station when she discourteously unloads all her stuff on a servant.

Perceiving Axis (Extraverted Intuition (Ne)/Introverted Sensing (Si)) -

 She is inventive, and can think of numerous ideas for her projects. She can creatively tie many disparate things together when drawing her conclusions, such as when she speaks disdainfully of her brother’s character: “If I discovered the origin of the universe, my brother would find a way to market it as, uh, a foot massage!” She did exhibit some difficulty putting things together on the fly, however, such as when she tried to make up a story to explain why the fake Screenslaver (an ordinary person she had hypnotized) was so easy to take down and dumb while having sophisticated and novel equipment, but she couldn’t make it consistent, which allowed Elastigirl to see through it. At the same time, she is stuck in the past after the trauma of losing both of her parents, analyzing it to draw conclusions about what happened, but her failure to consider other perspectives about what happened causes her to latch onto completely blaming supers, and so she decides they should never be legal. She will utilize negative personal experiences when making her decisions, such as when she justified framing a random pizza deliveryman as the Screenslaver because “he was surly, and the pizza was cold.”

Winston: Synonyms are so weird. Because if I invite you to my cottage in the forest, that sounds so nice, but if I invite you to my cabin in the woods, you’re going to die.

Bob: My favorite is “butt dial” versus “booty call.”

Evelyn, winking at Helen: Also, “forgive me, Father, for I have sinned,” versus “sorry, Daddy, I’ve been naughty!”
