"Cave canem" - beware of the dog! In ancient Rome, mosaics like this were used inside homes to warn visitors of vicious dogs within. This one guards the house of Paquius Proculus in Pompeii.

An interesting photo of a spotted hyena (Crocuta crocuta) and African wild dog (Lycaon pictus) nose to nose in Kruger National Park. Spotted hyenas regularly steal kills from African wild dogs and the two species generally do not tolerate one another.
