Mithrun is disabled and Kabru is his caretaker. Since there's a power dynamic, it's abuse, specifically medical abuse. Just because real disabled people's partners often act as caretakers out of necessity, doesn't make it okay in fiction

one thing i love about dungeon meshi is how specialized everyone is. how hypercompetent characters completely flounder outside of their area of expertise. how in a Battle Royale situation where everyone had to 1v1 kabru would absolutely SWEEP and yet he is not remotely suited for the dungeon and keeps fucking dying as a result. how chilchuck is entirely aware of his own limitations while marcille angsts about them. how completely incompatible the characters are with any sort of powerscaling arguments.

underrated dungeon meshi moment is when they’re finally about to revive falin for the second time and laois says “guys :( i’m so scared that it won’t work remember when the demon said my greatest desire shall never be granted :(“ and they all go “omg laois you’re right we’re all so nervous who knows what will happen…” and the second he’s out of earshot they all immediately agree that his “greatest desire” absolutely has to do with monsters, not falin coming back to life

oh laios is X kind of creep laios is Y kind of freak- WRONG!!!! WRONG WRONG WRONG! laios would be your HERPETOLOGY BOY who posts about nothing but his worrying amount of reptiles and rescues and people worry if he has decent husbandry until you go to his place and he has EXCELLENT enclosures and amazing climbs and tanks and has Turtles in his fucking fridge- but now the new worry is that his only space for himself is the kitchen, one table, and his mattress on the floor. He researches every aspect of them and wonders how individual dinosaurs would taste and which ones would taste more like chicken and which taste more like reptiles. Which he would never eat his prized specimins of course, but has probably eaten a wild, dead lizard off the ground (because he knows the right amount of decay, threat levels of each native species, and how to identify disease), so you drive him down to the Tennesee Bass Pro Pyramid to taste a real Croc Burger and he gets so excited he throws up in the car on the way there.

Once more OBSESSED with the fact that Kabru is introduced as a foil / parallel to laios with the fact that his expertise in reading people and battle tactics is what gets him to see through monstrous illusion, just as laios' expertise with monsters lets him progress

Like. I just love everything about these two traumatised freaks and how they mirror one another, and how that makes kabru so hilariously and ridiculously obsessed with Laios whilst Laios is just like :) oh is this friendship??

Especially because like. Everyone in his party trusts kabru so implicitly despite not knowing what he's thinking or what he's going to do, just as the party frustratedly trust laios

i just noticed on this page in the manga, that in the panel where laios is looking all sad that toshiro is actually giving him headpats 🥺!!!!

at first i just thought it was namari since she was already affectionately touseling his hair but then i noticed that although that's definitely her hand in the bottom left, the hand on the top of laios's head is at the wrong angle and too high up to be her's........... sobbing crying sobbing

for a guy who's so polite and proper and repressed, patting laios's head and then going in for a SECOND hug is basically tantamount to kissing him sloppy style right there i think
