In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, why not profess my love for the things I love.

On a real-world basis, I owe a lot to the people behind the fics, the fanart and the memes. This post is hybrid, designed as a fanfic rec list in addition to the 2020 in Review post, and as a way to show my love and care for everyone who graces my dash and literally makes all my days.

I struggled in the last year with somewhat of a crisis. I am a firm believer that one should re-evaluate their beliefs regularly, and to be honest, I didn’t know where I stood at that point in time. As much as the internet is a dangerous and foreign place, the decision to create a Tumblr account was honestly the best I ever made. I immediately felt in place, like I belonged, and that warm and fuzzy feeling helped me through my evaluation of what I believe in.

I am now infinitely more open, more able, and simply braver in that I have chosen firm beliefs that although they may not affect me, they affect those who are important to me and I would not question standing up and allying for these people.

The people I’ve met here are simply remarkable, there is no other way to say it. The love and care they put into the things they love is unparalleled, and as I say, they deserve much more praise than I could give by myself. Alas, all you can do is try. So, I do try. To give back to what tumblr has given to me, I decide to focus myself on the efforts of these content creators because they deserve that extra care. They cared for me after all, and they don’t know it.

An honourable mention particularly to @academicabyss, @danceswithwlfs and @theunreadstoryteller for liking and reblogging my posts in particular. I love that you’re here and deal with my ramblings. 

Before I start gushing about this, to these content creators (and you know who you are because I am sure you love seeing my tumblr name with the ridiculous closed octahedron icon promptly liking, reblogging, and commenting on posts), never change. 

If I have learned one thing in the past year, it is that for the most part, it is not worth changing yourself to fit in. Yes, I contradict myself because I’ve had a change of beliefs as a result of the tumblr community, but I also found that within here, I can most definitely be myself.

So never change, we love you for who you are. As a reader, I am just here for the ride and nothing more, because I fully entrust you in your abilities. Never feel an obligation to do stuff for your followers.

But at the end of the day, because they are all kind-hearted people, they overcome great burden to pump out the content they do. For that, I could not be more grateful.

Therefore, it is only prudent that I put an equal or greater amount of thought and care into the things I do, most notably the chapter and work reviews (which more are definitely coming). I’ve found better ways to do this (you can all read about the spreadsheet here), and for that, I am able to give the love and care back to these content creators. Further, the attention given to those who do incorrect quotes, memes, fanart should not be put second, as all in all, it is a symbiotic and interdependent system.

We all motivate each other to be better writers, better artists, better meme creators, better readers, and the wholesomeness, beauty and raw honesty alone from that thought is honestly what makes my world that little bit better. 

Since they are the prime movers of this fandom, they deserve the world and more thought and care that what I can give.

@bighandsghostfingers for How come we never talked about this stuff? (they also write a multi-chapter high school au which I absolutely adore and I admit I had a little bit of a stake in the last chapter. They’re amazing with characterisation and I am stoked with what’s about to come). 

@breezered for calmly at the crossroads (no desire to run) (it is worth mentioning this is a just a tip of the iceberg for their multitude of emotionally capturing AUs so please check out all their works).

@caitsyoi who is I’ve just recently found but have a nifty collection of cute and funny moments from the game and provide a valuable archive which I refer to when writing review posts.

@cosmic-crust for I’ll Be Coming For Your Love (this was their first fic and you can read my review here because one sentence here won’t do justice to the almost 9,000 words which carried ‘mostly fluff with a little bit of angsty ellie”)

@dilliebar for Flower (yes, this was last year but I was a donut and only stumbled upon it a week ago so they deserve to be here without question)

@dissonantdreamer for To The Moon And Back (they’re a giant space nerd and someone who puts all their love and care into this fandom and easily the go to in this fandom for that extra bit of detail - they are a genius and no one can tell me otherwise)

@elliesjournals for All It Takes is One Candle to Dispel Darkness (they are so so talented and provide a further extent of fluff post canon, they always make my day with their art - and yes, elliesjournals’ work is eternal)

@hatosaur for their myriad of talent and softness (my personal favourite - they are the master of softness through straight lines)

@heygaymayday for Some Strange Country (also for the introspective they put so much reverence into and the little treats which grace my dash every day)

@junkyardvertigo for the amazing virtual photography (and they also posted a paper on the subject matter somewhere but I cannot for the life of me find the link, please reach out!)

just_makeing_it_gay_97 for Brave (they also have a collection of one-shots worth reading)

@just-mango for It takes a village (they also host a series of works which host the most ridiculously adorable mix of fluff and OCs and remain one of the first writers I read in this fandom).

koolmcr for Winds Change (they are a new name to AO3 and their one-shots provide nice night-time reading material).

@lmontyy for In Her Backseat (this is an amazing college au with a bit of the author’s personal touch inserted, the latest chapter was reviewed by me because while I don’t comment on WIPs, it deserved it nonetheless - they also have the honour of being the first writer I read on AO3).

@martymulder for for all the places i have been i’m no place without you (i love what they characterise as tlou brain rot, no questions asked)

@respectablesentiment for everything you hoped for (this canon-divergent work makes me laugh with the extra characterisations, honestly the “jerry anderson is not a dumbfuck au” just kills me)

@silverislander for everyone hates roses (I am simply awaiting the opportunity to jump on the review for this because I have so much to say and very little patience to restrain myself - also an honourable mention for being the considerate sweetheart of the fandom)

@souncivilized17 for their pristine meme dumps (the love and dedication that goes into their blog is unforeseen and it has become a key part of my day and for that I love them - they are also the pain train conductor on duty when you need that little dawn of realisation in the tlou universe)
