This is the start of a worldbuilding project. Expect infrequent updates. A follow means you’re planning to be very patient. Text walls for now but I hope to post art as well eventually. No idea what this world is for, but I’ll figure it out once the world is more built up. This blog will serve as a sort of public dev journal for whatever this becomes.
The premise started with the idea of a civilization of dragon riders. What would that look like? I imagined dragons and dragon riders to be largely nomadic and take roost on “dragon roost ports” on the sides of mountains or on seaside cliffs. I imagined these dragon riders to be sort of like a society layered on top of a more generic medieval fantasy setting with stationary dragonless settlements. Kinda like air nomads from Avatar in a way, but more explorers than monks.
The premise eventually expanded. I eventually fast forwarded this world into the future. The dragon riders and their dragons started wearing power armor, where did that come from? I figured maybe some mages tinkering with golemancy in the medieval times eventually became artificers in the future. I then had the idea of the golems and armors both being powered by “spirit circuits”. Don’t ask me what a spirit circuit is, because I don’t know either. Just some surreal spirit energy can bring life to these vessels
But here we have a radical industrialization of not just magitech but also the mythical/historic dragon rider. If we know humans, as much as we (collective) love innovation, we (collective) also love holding onto traditions. No doubt, civilizations would try to progress with these power suits and golems automating their towns and powering up their adventurers, but cultures steeped in tradition (like dragon riding, already a bit of an exclusive society) would no doubt balk at their noble customs getting desecrated with gaudy armor and flashy lights. I wanted to tell a story where this sort of societal conflict was not the main concern, but just something that was shaping society in the background.
I already have more to talk about but I want to make the lore updates as bite sized as possible. And this is really just the story of how this world even came to be in my head.
