The role plastic products play in the daily lives of people all over the world is interminable. We could throw statistics at you all day long (e.g. Upwards of 300 MILLION tons of plastic are consumed each year), but the impact of these numbers border on inconceivable.

For those living on the coasts, a mere walk on the beach can give anyone insight into how staggering our addiction to plastic has become as bottles, cans, bags, lids and straws (just to name a few) are ever-present. In other areas that insight is more poignant as the remains of animal carcasses can frequently be observed; the plastic debris that many of them ingested or became entangled in still visible long after their death. Sadly, an overwhelming amount of plastic pollution isn’t even visible to the human eye, with much of the pollution occurring out at sea or on a microscopic level.

The short-lived use of millions of tons of plastic is, quite simply, unsustainable and dangerous. We have only begun to see the far-reaching consequences of plastic pollution and how it affects all living things. According to a study from Plymouth University, plastic pollution affects at least 700 marine species, while some estimates suggest that at least 100 million marine mammals are killed each year from plastic pollution. Here are some of the marine species most deeply impacted by plastic pollution.

PSA ON FIRES

1.6 million hectares have been lost. Four people have died. A dozen are injured and among them are a handful of firefighters. Volunteer firefighters.

The Amazon fire burnt only 9060 hectares... that's 1,590,940 hectares less then what has burnt in our country.

Where are those people who cried over the Amazon fire? Where are the people to make posts about our country? Why isn't the International media covering this?

Why is our government spending almost 6 million dollars on fireworks this year but refuse to help with drought and fires of their own country?

Why has it become a debate on whether we should cancel the fireworks and give the money to drought and fire relief?

People who voted to keep the fireworks think they have come up with the solution though: "send the victims to Sydney on an all expense paid trip to watch the fireworks, start the New Year on a good note."

Then what? Then they go back to nothing. They go back to empty properties where their houses once stood. They go back to farms to see their lifes work die in front of them, to see what their great-great-great grandparents started, end. They have nothing. All because our fucking government won't cancel fireworks.

I am beyond furious.

I am disgusted in our government. I am disgusted that no one on this godforsaken website isn't talking about this, but they'll happily shove posts about practically everything else down our throats.

Our Prime Minister doesn't care. Our government doesn't care. It seems no one does.

The stress that our country is under, the depression, the pain that we are in; all of it is being overlooked.

My eldest brother came back from overnight deployment yesterday and cried to my mother because all they could do was stand back and watch this mans shed burn down. His shed which held thousands of dollars worth of surfing equipment. It was his lifes work and it was gone in an instant. There was nothing they could do.

Firefighters are being worked to the bone day and night to help people and the government then decides to cut payment towards brigades? Not acceptable.

Scott Morrison is the biggest disappointment I have ever known. He is a disgrace for ignoring what is happening on our country and I hope to God he gets what he deserves.
