Frightening news from Sudan. The Rapid Support Forces is continuing its genocidal campaign in the Darfur region. They seem to be gearing up for an assault on El Fasher, and currently have the city under siege. This is the largest city in Darfur, and more than 500,000 displaced people from around Sudan are currently taking refuge there. If the RSF is able to carry out an offensive, it would bring starvation, killings, and rape on a massive scale. Human rights activists in Sudan are calling on the international community to urgently intervene.
Please read the article below for further information, the severity of the situation cannot be understated.

i feel like i'm losing my mind why has the AI debate pivoted away from material/labor concerns back to debates about Real vs Fake Art. cannot express just how little i care about relitigating Art and high art and low art and skilled vs unskilled art. what i care about is the treatment and compensation of workers, the power corporations are exerting over intellectual property and creators, the continued extraction of resources, and the omnipresent glut of spam and disinformation with few or no regulations/resources that filter out the SEO AI generated nonsense

rich fat women in elaborate ball gowns standing on a parapet and giggling as they throw long iron spikes at me as i run back and forth in the field below. im giggling too and ducking and grinning as a spike narrowly misses my head. i blow the women kisses occasionally and they smile.

this is a total normal thing for ANOTHER COUNTRY'S foreign intelligence agency front to say to American university students who are peacefully demonstrating against the genocide and oppression of Palestinians

People really need to realise that “media can affect real life” doesn’t mean “this character does bad things so people will read that and start doing bad things” and actually means “ideas in fiction especially stereotypes about minority groups can affect how the reader views those groups, an authors implicit prejudices can be passed on to readers”
#youd think that so many people that make the propaganda comparison would acknowledge that the creators of the media are doing it#with their own biases in place that They think are right#and yes many times when they do depict things the way they do#they Do create entertainment at the expense of certain people#that an ignorant populace will just accept! especially if they find value iit for other reasons#NO MATTER WHAT your biases will influence your ideas on what is okay and whats not none of you will be true#you will be truely neutral#whether the audence for what youre creating is large or small#and people can misuse this and do very very very often and at some point you do have to take responsibility for that idk. idk!#especially when what youre creating 😐 is a facet of something that is an active problem 😐 that is rarely respected 😐#or treated with the care it deserves 😐 for its victims 😐#I.E.#white creators writing characters of color in incredibly harmful ways#and saying 'well you dont understand my intentions' when people complain#this can be applied to everything fictional. And Yes#Even That.#just because you jerk off to it doesnt mean it exists without doing real harm to people#this is the most eloquent ive ever been aboit this point and yes im speaking as someone who GETS the nuances#and have been on both sides of these ideas. hopefully it makes sense lawl#theres less weight behind enjoying serial killers and making Evil Bad Guys because these actions usually have actual consequences.#the public doesnt excuse murder...at least not openly 🤪 unless they can justify it#like for some people yes its a fantasy you can wash your hands of#and 'enjoy' because you have a barrier between it#its like..the obsession with true crime. like people do not consider the weight of these lives#and yeah dumb teens online will go overboard and have no nuance abt these subjects or make baseless accusations#theyre teens with access to shit they shouldnt be while only just getting ahold of their opinions and thoughts of the wider world#theyre gonna be ignorant.#i got into awful dangerous shit as a kid that damaged me with a mindset on the exact opposite spectrum#there is rarely a good balance in perfectly understanding the dituations you are put in or have access to as a Child.#anyway none of you are as smart or above the influence of harmful ideas as you think & more infkuenced by your identity than u know ect ect

In my new report, I provide the first ever look inside of a US military program known as the Secretary of Defense Executive Fellows (SDEF) program, which gives major government contractors like Lockheed Martin and Boeing a way to influence senior military policymakers.
The program sends US military officers to work at major corporations for nearly a year; when they return, the fellows submit recommendations for reform of the Pentagon based on their observations of the private sector.
We document numerous examples of companies using this program to pass along self-interested policy recommendations to US military leaders, including: more outsourcing, corporate subsidies, deregulation, less oversight, more political power to contractors, looser arms export rules, and more. We also analyzed a sample of former SDEF fellows and found that 43% of them go through the revolving door and work for military contractors after leaving the program. As such, the SDEF program uses government money to help subsidize the military-industrial complex, placing corporate interests above the public interest.
You can read my summary of the report here, along with coverage by The Lever here.

Eminem’s life story is actually mine
He took my wallet and lived on my dime
the film 8 Mile was based off me, for real
Eminem lied and i just couldn’t deal
So I moved to the burbs, under a house
Live in a crawl space, rap with a mouse :(
