Pre edited documentation images of my sugar coated installation sculpture. Overall I am very happy with the way that my sculpture turned out in the end and the way that it looks when installed in the site. I achieved the look I was going for and the mood that the sculpture gives is what intended as I wanted it to be bright and happy on the outside but when Learnt of the meaning behind it it creates a different experience. I really enjoy how out of place the sculpture looks in the site as it looks nothing like anything that could be found in area like that which means that people who are in the space would definitely notice my sculpture and hopefully think about what it could possibly  mean.

Artist Chris Wood
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chris Wood is a sculpture and Installation based artist that creates intricate patterns using glass/plastic that reflect light and create casted colourful shadows around the sculpture. I love the concept and process that Wood uses to create these installation pieces and the way that they reflect patterns as well as bright colours. To me his installations remind me of a more modern or abstracted version of stained glass windows. Chris wood has inspired me to explore using light reflections and patterns in future works.

JENNIFER MAESTRE ARTIST
Pencils 1 (2007-2013)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jennifer Maestre is an artist that explores the use of coloured pencils as a way of making organic shaped forms sometimes resembling plants or insects. I really enjoy Maestre’s art and the way she uses a simple everyday item such as coloured pencils as a way to create different and intricate structures that contain many small and cut pieces of pencil. I like the way that these pencils create colour and have a childish aura around them.

Arrow Sculpture, 2015
Tony Tasset is an artist that works with both sculpture and painting. The artworks of his that i am the most interested in and is more relevant to my practice are his bright coloured sculptural in particular his Arrow Sculpture, Mood Sculpture and Blob Monster. Many of his sculptural works can be considered more spectacle pieces as they are mostly at a large scale and brightly coloured which is always very attention grabbing and memorable. I personally enjoy his art as i like to work with bright colours myself and i feel the way that he uses colour is relatable to my own work. In particular i mostly relate to his “Blob Monster” sculpture as it takes form of a large organic form shape like a blob. It is completely covered in a solid dripping form and coloured in rainbow.

Holton Rower Artist
I came across Holton Rower today after I had just completed my sculptures and can relate my work and its physical elements a lot to his artwork. Although His work explores different themes and ideas to mine we share similar process and overall aesthetic vision.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like the difference between our artworks is that Rower focuses more of the form that the colour and overall sculpture takes. He works with larger scale sculpture and explore more organic and complex form where as with my artwork “sugar Coat” it takes a very simple form of a cube. Personally i really enjoy Rower’s sculptures as i think the colour palettes he works with are similar to ones that i enjoy using as well. I also like the shames and lines in which he creates with the colour. Rower has definitely inspired me to think about incorporating more complex form into future sculptures and perfecting a better acrylic pour recipe that would create more cells and movement when the paint is pour on the object.

Final stages of “Sugar Coat” (Reflection)
At this point in time i feel as if my sculpture is progressing nicely and i have entered the final stages of creating it and am working on adding the final touches. At the moment both boxes are being left out so the acrylic pour can properly dry before applying a glossy spay to create a wet or goo like look. Personally i feel like i have created and progressed my sculpture nicely from an idea to a physical body of work. i have changed ideas multiple times and have change the materials as well as i did testing and looked through what materials were available to me. I also am happy with the way that my sculpture connects well with my meaning of it and what i want it to be about (which is environmental issues and how people in todays society often dismiss and sugar coat these important issues that will have dramatic and devastating effects on our planet in the future) which is also why I am naming my body of work Sugar coat.

Reflection
At the moment i am in the middle of creating my final sculpture for the project. After all of my planning and material testing i decided to go with using cardboard instead of perspex for the cube material and for the goo effect i decided to go with doing an acrylic pour over the cube. I decided to go with these materials instead because i feel like using cardboard makes more sense as it connects with the artworks meaning a lot more that it would if i used perspex. The General idea that i am thinking about when creating my sculpture is pollution, littering, deforestation and many other environmental issues that humans are doing to planet for our own personal gain. I want my sculpture to be about giving back to nature in a way of offering an object and placing in a site in witch other people can see it. The cardboard that i used for the cube i found as if was about to be thrown out outside of a store and it made me think about how much of a waste that would be and the fact that trees were cut down and used to make something that would be thrown out after being slightly used. This also connects to the way in which i want to place my sculptures in a tree and placed on the ground net to the same tree. The rainbow colours and acrylic pour idea is a way for me to project this to bystanders or people that would be sitting in the site as it is very attention grabbing and hard to miss as the colours stand out a lot. This also connects to the idea that some people refuse to acknowledge these sever environmental issues and they are often sugarcoated (hence the bright pastel like colours) or pushed aside by people.
I will be making two cubes so i will be working on that and finishing the acrylic pour on both of those sculptures. I am still questioning wether i should add the dripping on the benches in the site as i feel the complete body of work could be fine with including it or containing just the two cubes.

Ultra Violet , Untitled - Mitch Payne
I like these two artworks from artist Mitch Payne as they contain elements that i am interested in using in the future or already like using in my current art such as bright colours and geometric forms. I am also interested in the way the he uses light reflections and double exposure in his artwork as in my opinion gives the artwork an over dreamy mood.
