that 19th month cannibalistic bid for survival in the wilderness during misty quigley's teen years was literally just a detour on her inevitable one lane road towards murder and kidnapping in her adult years. i've said it before and i'll say it again misty was already like that. and i love her. misty came out of that harrowing experience smiling but disappointed they couldn't just stay there and eat each other forever.

Obsessed with jeff's whole thing. he's so fucking boring. he owns a furniture store. he was homecoming king. he has vanilla fantasies. he married his high school girlfriend's bff whom he slept with on the side. he keeps himself in top physical shape. he's having an affair--except, no, he's actually just in debt and blackmailed the yellowjackets so he could keep shauna living a comfortable life because he loves her, and oh yeah, the stuff he's using for blackmail? it's shauna's firsthand account of all the truly fucked up shit she did in the wilderness. he's known forever. he doesn't care! he loves his wife! she had an affair and murdered the guy, he doesn't care! he'll go to prison for her! he'll burn the evidence! shut the fuck up, jackie's parents! his wife is so smart and cool! he chooses her over the glorified memory of your dead daughter any day! it's shauna appreciation 24/7/365 baby! he literally just wants to provide for and look hot for his wife & make her happy. the really insane thing is he can't. of course he can't. he's just jeff, he's boring, he's not of the wilderness, he's completely irrelevant. he's not jackie. can't wait to see whatever fucked up thing shauna does next and how jeff is like yes ma'am about it

Honestly my one of my favorite things about Yellowjackets is that it’s like the “high-school-stereotype turns out to be more than that” trope, but turned up to such a grotesque and horrifying degree. Like-

“Turns out the popular girl has her own weaknesses/insecurities!” Yeah and she literally freaking dies for them.

“Wow! The rebellious punk girl we were all afraid of is actually really nice!” So let’s turn her into this borderline divine figure, entrust her with our lives and follow her deep into the wilderness as she’s the last one to hold onto a sliver of humanity and not turn into some primal, depraved animal.

“Oh! So the weird childish kid is actually capable of things!” Mm hmm, capable of MURDER. Capable of holding the cards of life and death itself in her little hands and becoming so needed yet so feared.

“That strange quiet kid finally finds her voice!” AND STARTS A CULT.

I could keep going but just- Y’all that retro 90’s energy of exploring the high school trope coupled with the utter gruesome obscenity that is their situation… It so does it for me. Everyone’s become so suffocated in their little boxes that the only way to break out is in a dramatic frenzy where they start killing each other. Glorious.
