Loud music and flash fiction. Manual labor if it’s that bad.
I literally cannot overstate how important creative hobbies are when dealing with mental illness. If you can’t draw, there are coloring books. If you can’t write a novel, you can write in short journaling bursts. If you can’t sing in the shower, you can listen to music. Sometimes with mental illness it feels like we have this dark presence inside of us that is bumping around in our brain and organs, causing problems. It helps immensely to let it out.

Is it just me or are the new tumblr users convinced there's a penalty of some kind for using this site like it's meant to be used?

I know it's been talked about before but I still don't think it's been emphasized how *fucked* today's internet experience is for children. I didn't know what the word "discourse" was when I was 8, or 10, or even 13. I was too busy playing the nigh-limitless amount of flash games out there on the internet and making sure my neopets were fed. Like I cannot stress enough that if I had free time on the computer, 9 times out of 10 I could go and play a jaunty little game someone had whipped up and put out there for no other reason than that creating games was awesome and easy to do. Or go to some page that existed just to collect memes; you see back then there were more than 4 sites, and you didn't need accounts to visit them. I didn't get targeted ads. I wasn't exposed to any sort of political ideology. I spent a lot of time on the computer but no one site monopolized my time or tried to fucking manipulate me into using it more. The internet was for more than one thing back then, and honestly I don't think enough people realize how much has been stolen from us.

young me especially would have hated hearing this but networking is literally the most important thing you can do to improve your situation like forget economic barriers to education etc just keep making friends with different people and eventually someone will offer you a hand up just because they dig your vibe and that is exactly all that's happening when undeserving people surpass you anyway

Made a short webcomic (as practice) which adds to lore for stories I've talked before (the Creation and Destruction Series).
FREE TO DOWNLOAD.
(Whoever read Orphic Odyssey when it was fully up knows who the MC is. Still, this short stands on its own just fine)

Writeblr Reintroduction (Remake)
Tumblr media
Salutations! I go online by Summer Kid (S.K) but you can also refer to me as Elena. I am a young adult who loves storytelling because creating is what keeps me sane. Above all, I write original fiction.
What did I write up until 25 August, 2023? Through the link below are presented ten stories, free to read online (old and recent):
I wanted to update my writeblr intro so here we are. Also, I want to thank the community real quick for being - delightful. Really, I have learned a lot and still learning. Thank you for everything!
What's next? I have many creative projects in store which will take time (I am slow and also life is a tool). First on the list is a remaster of the Creation and Destruction series. I also have a WIP I plan to traditionally publish in my mother tongue. Fun... and terrifying.
I will keep everyone posted whenever I have something to show. I am mostly active on my second account: @writingingraves. On there will be thrown a lot of WIP stuff into oblivion. Hehe.
Thank you for reading! Here's where else to find me: Carrd .

Running:
I titled a page of an old notebook and left it,
Blank.
The stars said now was the time, and so it stood.
Weeks later the page was inked, a checklist running its length.
What is this life and desire? Checklists, to-dos, lists and goals. Change.
The books and ideas pile up to bursting shelves. A young boy was told once, writing clears the mind, but this was not behind the meaning; this tabulation of triteness.
There is a longing.
Broken prose will ease the mind. A pen is a valve.
The plans go on and there’s are choices to be made. This or that, when and how —
The boy is lying on grass, eyes unfocused. Leaves on branches and the sun is shining. There is grass blowing in the wind and a backpack is under his head. His skin is warm and he is skipping class and he is free again.

The Copywork Challenge II.
The Copywork Challenge is back! We did one back in May, let's do another run. The goal is to do at least 1,000 words of copywork this week.
Join us here and let's do the challenge together.
Tumblr media
What is Copywork?
Copywork is the practice of typing out another writer’s work, word by word, as they wrote it. Isn’t that copyright infringement, though? Why would you want to do that?
You’re, of course, not copying their story to publish it as your own. The goal is to get a feel for how the author works and become a better writer yourself.
For centuries, writers used copywork to learn to write well. Hunter S. Thompson typed out The Great Gatsby in its entirety to practice writing that he greatly admired. Jack London copied the works of Rudyard Kipling. Benjamin Franklin also used copywork to improve his writing.
When you copy another writer’s work, you really get to internalise the patterns they use in their prose. You get a much better feel for how they construct sentences and structure their arguments compared to just reading them.
Copying fiction is even more valuable. The best stories immerse you completely in their world when you’re reading them. The writing becomes practically invisible. As a result, you miss a lot of the cool things the writer did when reading them.
By typing out the story word by word, you learn how the writer structures their scenes. You’ll see how they weave description and action together.
The goal isn’t to perfectly imitate a single writer’s style — that would be impossible anyway. But as you copy the work of various authors, elements of what makes their writing great will seep through to your style.
Musicians start learning by playing their favourite songs — just listening isn’t enough. Artists paint studies of their favourite pieces — looking at a painting isn’t enough.
When you want to learn from your favourite writers, do some copywork — just reading their work isn’t enough.
The Challenge
Copy 1,000 words or more from a book, short story, article, blog post or anything else you liked.
It should take you about 30 minutes or so to get it done.
Take note of all the little things you will discover about their writing that you would otherwise miss completely when just reading through.
I set up a challenge in Writing Analytics if you'd like to join:

Let's do some copywork together!

"It's gotten to the point where I think a lot of people can't believe it if they get a residual for $25," O'Brien said. "They're so used to opening those envelopes and it's 30 cents."
O'Brien, who has appeared on dozens of shows, from "Grey's Anatomy" to "Pretty Little Liars," shared images of residual checks from more than two decades ago worth $47.49, $87.77 and $216.25. Others, from the past few years, amounted to $1.63, 43 cents and 1 cent.

Making a shitty one-page RPG called Oh Shit It’s the Killer. The premise is simple: you’re a high schooler spending the weekend in the woods with your besties. The Killer is there also. He is trying to the Kill you
