Although she didn't say whether she accepted his apology or not, Saraïyah did appreciate the fact that he owned up to his actions despite the reasons he had. He acknowledged his mistake and apologized to her, something that the guys she's used to wouldn't bother doing. They would probably flip her off and she'd cussed them out.
The thought of some shameless creep spying on her with inappropriate intentions made her skin crawl in disgust. If that was truly the case, she would've killed him and buried his body deep under the ground. Then happily move on with her life. Who was going to find out when they were all by themselves? The creatures? Please.
But why didn't she take that action? Why did she allow him the luxury of hearing what she assumed would be pathetic nonsense as his justification?
Interestingly, it was his eyes.
His pure golden eyes, a perfect shade of yellow, and the most enchanting details she had ever seen in her entire life held her small reflection. Radiant and distinct.
The villagers often say that the eyes are the windows to one's soul. Like body language, the eyes say more than words ever could. The eyes can tell a lot about someone's emotional state. They don't lie. They show the truth, no matter what face they put on. By looking into the eyes of an individual, one can see their hidden emotions, attitudes, and thoughts.
She sees him.
She was able to read his emotions through those eyes. Even if she didn't want to believe him, he was telling the truth.
That intense eye contact snapped something inside that she never knew existed, which left her speechless and confused.
She was leading the way and Neteyam was following closely behind her, he skipped to be right beside her. Being taller than her required him to look at her from a lower angle.
"So, what's your name, Princess?"
Her ears perked up at the nickname he had just called her. Why would he even think to casually address her as such? And why does her entire body keep getting triggered by these weird sensations? It was a simple word that strangely flutters her heart and makes her feel like millions of Shimmyflies are dancing around in her belly.
Nicknames are normal between her and her friends. She shouldn't have been in any way affected by it. But his was different; it sent shivers down her spine.
Odd and unfamiliar. These confusing feelings, which still linger, had begun earlier. When she had him pinned against a tree with a knife to his throat. One wrong move sealed his fate.
He's too composed for a man who nearly lost his life.
Neteyam even surprised himself and didn't know why he said it. It slipped out. Either way he didn't mind and will continue calling her that.
Brushing her wavy wet hair off her shoulder, she replied. "Saraïyah, or Saïyah for short."
"Saraïyah." He repeated her name slowly at a low volume, paused for about two seconds, and then smiled genuinely while continuously staring at her. "It's beautiful, definitely suits you."
There's that feeling again.
"Thanks, what's yours?" She avoided Neteyam's gaze in the hopes that he wouldn't be able to see her tainted cheeks.
He did notice, and decided not to speak on it. At least for now.
"Neteyam Sully."
She, finally, raised her head to face him and asked, "The sixth Toruk Makto's oldest son?"
"You heard about me? I didn't know I was that popular. That's awesome-"
"Hold your tail, your parents are the legends, not you buddy. I only heard about you once." She diminished his enthusiasm, while thinking back to a random night. Although the memory was hazy, she can still recall portions of it.
"Buzzkiller." He playfully nudged her.
Snorting with a small smirk, she did the same to him. "As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted,"
"You interrupted me."
"Be quiet, you." She hushed him, "As I was saying, I'd watch my back with Aonung if I were you mr 'Perfect' child. He despises you."
Saraïyah is certain that Aonung won't be hesitant to express his enduring hostility whenever he has the chance.
He noted the irony in her tone when she referred to him as 'Mr. Perfect.'
Neteyam raised an eyebrow, " Why though? I've only met him today."
Aonung having yet another unspoken hatred towards him was baffling. He was aware of the guy's resentment and annoyance when his father asked him to help him and his siblings adjust to the reef lifestyle.
"Well, his dad did compare him to you a few years ago. He was going on and on about how impressed he was with your achievements at a young age. I guess Aonung got hurt and jealous, so since then you've been dead to him."
"Really? Damn, no wonder he's acting like a jerk towards my siblings and I."
"That's how he is, a real jerk." A very annoying one she wishes she could beat up with a stick every single day.
When she spotted some Yovo bushes she moved towards them, signaling him to follow.
The bushes have large tufts of green leaves at the top and clusters of Yovo fruits underneath the leaves, and the purple fruit itself is small enough to fit several of them onto the palm of a Na'vi hand.
She started collecting the leaves and the fruits. "He just wants his father to recognize him. But, I suppose you do have to live up to yours too, don't you?"
"Yeah." Neteyam slowly nodded as he assisted her. "I kinda relate to him on that part."
"I feel for you guys, honestly. It must be a nightmare, constantly trying to prove your worth with all of those expectations and standards. That all sounds exhausting. I'd rather sleep."
He chuckled, "Right, it's fortunate and unfortunate. My parents don't exactly force them upon us...It's more like a self-obligation for me. I mainly want to set an example for my siblings and help them."
Neteyam cares greatly for his siblings, he supports them all so they can shine and succeed. To him, they're special and amazing in their own way.
"Don't mind me asking, why would your family come here when you have your own land? Did you get kicked out of your clan?"
"No, it was our choice. The guy my dad fought and my mom killed in the past is somehow back from the dead, and now he's after us for revenge. Dad decided that we should escape and hide among a different tribe. Our escape would also protect the rest of our tribe since they are the primary target for him."
He gave a brief explanation of the situation, including how it all began and how it should have ended. But fate says otherwise. Given that this is his family's business, he kept it to a minimum. She's still a stranger at the moment.
"You said that man is obsessed with tracking and capturing your father and that his cruelty has no bounds, where do you think the Metkayina clan will stand if he manages to reach our villages?" She pressed the matter.
Saraïyah was neither gullible nor clueless; she easily caught on to the dilemma. The Sully's understandably ran away on their own and with their tribe's favor, but by coming here, they also brought danger to another tribe, who are not in war or direct conflict with those Sky people personally. The people would undoubtedly fall victim to that man's cruelty, meaning that even if they are innocent, they may lose their lives.
Tonowari's sympathy for the family wasn't unexpected; what's surprising is Ronal herself complied. Saraïyah wasn't opposed to their decision, to say the least, she probably would've accepted them as well. She's naturally concerned about their safety, especially the children.
"We'll stay and fight." Neteyam stated with assurance and confidence.
However, despite their arms' strength and hearts' bravery, they will not be able to repel the determined assault without suffering fatalities. That was something he was conscious of.
"Is that so. There's not much of a choice, is there." She simply said this and looked further ahead of them.
Neteyam was about to respond when Saraïyah suddenly gasped, her jaw dropping.
"Oh my Eywa."
"What? What is it, what's wrong?" He scans the area, trying to figure out what startled her.
"Shh, come on." She dragged him behind the bushes.
"See that over there?" He looks at where she was pointing to, nodding.
"A Slinth? If it attacks, we can just kill it."
He reached for his knife but she intervened, shaking her head.
"Helloo? We're not gonna do such a thing. It's sleeping, we mustn't disturb it. I want you to be as stealthy as you can so we don't end up as the next course meals."
Neteyam shrugged, his idea is more reasonable. "Yes, ma'am."
Eywa and luck are on vacation, while unlucky was having a satisfying field day with two teenagers who thought their stealth skills were useful against the sharp predator and are currently regretting their live decisions.
The cunning creature had long been awake; it sensed the free meals from miles away and pretended to still be asleep. Until it needs to feed, it spends the majority of the day sleeping in the forest. When this occurs, it is among the fastest land predators on Pandora and is known for injecting its prey with a powerful poison before devouring them alive.
Once they moved close enough, the Slinth jumped to attack with an opened mouth and claws. Thanks to Neteyam's rapid reflex as he quickly grabbed a branch and swung, the Slinth was launched into the air and struck a tree. Right away, he started dragging Saraïyah after him as they ran in a different direction.
The Slinth screamed in agony and became enraged. Its speed was less effective because of the discomfort, but it was unaffected by this.
Unlike the previous occasion, Saraïyah is not being saved by her aunt. Back then, she was sad that the creature died despite the traumatic event she experienced. Now, deep down, she wished she had listened to Neteyam's proposition.
Gut-wrenching, heart pumping-after several thrusts forward, her legs started hurting, but she couldn't slow down. She was running so fast that she thought her legs were going to explode. Adrenaline is coursing through her veins as she forces her legs to push harder, anticipating the relief of lying in her warm bed if they escape this mess.
"I think this is the waterfall!" Neteyam said through sharp breaths. He's still holding her hand securely in his.
Saraïyah heaved out a long relieved sigh.
The waterfall was another option for them to return because it is partially connected to the ocean. Compared to the alternative route they were travelling, it does take longer.
Finally, they made it to the stony peak of the waterfall, panting from fatigue. They gaze back toward the Slinth as it draws closer, then down at the streaming water.
"You ready for it, Princess?"
They exchanged smirks while looking at one another.
"Heck yeah!"
With both safety precautions and fun in mind, they went for it and plunged off the edge. Saraïyah maintained a perfect form and pointed toes, while Neteyam had a much more laid-back attitude to the whole thing, having to perform multiple flips and twists from the spectacular heights.
All they could hear during the loud and exciting trip was the constant boom of water pounding into the stream and their screams. Plus, the bubbly rush of being one with the falls. The harsh smash landing that a several-foot fall may have caused was softened by the swirling water at the base of the waterfall.
"That was insane!"
"And dangerous!"
Plunging into a cool, fresh, tropical waterfall pool is one of the most exhilarating experiences imaginable for the two. Saraïyah never imagined herself engaging in such activities with a boy she had just met and had been threatening not long ago, on a random day like this.
This isn't a place that she often comes to, she was spending time with her Ilu and the scenery simply captured her attention. She planned on swimming for a short while and then possibly collecting weaving materials on the way home.
Never expected to be chased by a deadly beast.
Never expected to even cross paths with this Omaticaya Na'vi. And him saving her.
Obviously, she wouldn't stand by and let that Slinth kill her and carry on with its life or the next prey, just because she has it in her to oppose violence against creatures. She could have undoubtedly defended herself in some way if she had been alone, and if push came to shove, she would've set her merciful heart aside.
But in any case, Saraïyah was rather impressed by his rapid control of the situation. To a certain extent.
"You okay there, Princess?" Her wavy, dispersed hair was sticking to her face and blocking her eyesight, which made him chuckle amusingly.
"Not funny Skxawng," She scolds him, smiling as she fixes her hair.
That smile.
Her smile is so contagious to him.
"I'm fine, kinda bummed out about my materials, they're all soaked and ruined." She pursed her lips into a slight pout.
"Look on the bright side, at least we survived." He glanced up, finding out that the creature was gone. "Do you wanna try another spot? I'm sure that beast is still lurking near."
"It's whatever, I'm too tired. I think I'll have time to hunt tomorrow."
He nodded.
Saraïyah made a tongue-clicking noise, calling out to her Ilu.
The Ilu are social by nature, smart, and easy to domesticate. Like direhorses serve the Na'vi clans of the forests, jungles, and plains, it serves the reef clans, particularly the Metkayina. They can be found in groups close to the settlements of oceanic Na'vi clans and are as common in the ocean as Ikrans are in the sky.
"I still can't believe we just did that. My veins are shaking."
"I've jumped from taller ones." He spoke of it as if it were a simple and normal activity.
"I could tell, showoff." She playfully rolled her eyes.
Neteyam smirked. "We should go for another round."
"Absolutely not, I'm never doing this again." She waved him off.
Saraïyah spotted her Ilu swimming at full speed in their direction, her eyes lit up. Chichi emerged from beneath the waves to the surface in a dramatic entrance. Circling Saraïyah was what she first did.
"Hey Stargirl!" Her smile grew.
The creature was only concerned about whether Saraïyah suffered from any injuries.
"We're alright, don't worry." Saraïyah reassured her and petted her skin to alleviate her anxiety.
Chichi's a creature of rare beauty, adored by her Saraïyah.
Unlike an ikran, Ilu do not develop individual bonds with riders, so a skilled rider can mount any ilu that has been familiarized with the kuru bond. Chichi chose Saraïyah solely as her bond; hence, that fact didn't apply to them.
Saraïyah turned to Neteyam, "This is Chichi, she's my big spoiled baby."
"Hi Chichi," He greeted her.
Chichi slapped her tail against the water in response, splashing him in the face.
He wiped his face and said, "I guess I didn't pass her vibe check."
"Quite the opposite, actually, she thinks you're handsome. She'd bite you if you didn't." Like she always does to Aonung and Rotxo. And Saraïyah couldn't agree more with that statement.
"Oh yeah? Are you speaking for her or through her?" Neteyam swam a little bit closer, taking pleasure in the reddening of her cheeks as she realized what he meant.
"It's her opinion!" Saraïyah gasped, and mentality cursed herself for how hyper her voice sounded.
"Sure, thanks Chichi." He spoke to Chichi while maintaining eye contact with the flustered girl next to her.
"You're such a tease!"
He shrugged, smirking.
"Argh! Let's take his ass back to the village, Stargirl. I'm sure your parents are worrying sick while their eldest son is over here acting like a playboy."
After they bonded, Saraïyah climbed onto the creature's back.
"That was so flexible."
"Boy I'll leave you behind if you don't stop talking and get on." She huffed, crossing her arms across her chest, earning Neteyam's attention there for a fleeting second.
He hummed, doing as she says.
Saraïyah advised him to hang on to her since Chichi swims however she pleases in order to prevent him from sliding off. He hesitated to touch her waist, which she recognized, but she assured him that she didn't mind.

"Get up kids! Start getting ready!"
Neytiri shouted from outside.
Tired groans can be heard from the sleeping children, tossing their bodies around and basically doing anything but opening those sleepy eyes. Even though they always go to bed early so they can get enough sleep, lifting the mightiest mountain in Pandora seems like an easier task for Neytiri and Jake than getting them out of their beds.
"Tuk move your feet," Lo'ak whined in annoyance, shoving his little sister's leg off his face. She rolled over, now doing the same thing to Neteyam.
"C'mon Tuk..." Neteyam tapped her ankle, he's laid flat on his back with his eyes closed, too lazy to actually move her.
"I told you she'd do it again, but your weak ass fell for her puppy eyes. Next time she sleeping with mom and dad, I don't wanna hear it." Lo'ak said after yawning and stretching his body.
Tuktirey was unresponsive to his complaints for a moment, so she could turn to Neteyam and apologize before returning her focus to him.
"As if you don't blabber in your sleep, weirdo. I was using my leg to shut you up." She remarks.
"First of all, I've never in my life done that crap. Second, nobody wants your stinkin' feet on their face, that's totally disgusting!" With a disgusted facial expression, he pointed out.
"Oh please, you must've been smelling yourself, not my feet! I don't think you even took a shower yesterday, ya nasty!"
"Why you—I did shower. I was the one who gave you one, you ungrateful smart mouth!"
"Lo'ak hush, you're literally arguing with a 7 year old. It's too early for this." Kiri says, rolling her eyes.
"I'll argue with a 7 year old if she's this disrespectful, I don't care."
"Fine, I don't want your big head to give me one today. I want Teyam to!"
Lo'ak waved her off. "Whatever. I wouldn't do it anyway."
"And I'm telling on you for breaking dad's camera, I saw you." Tuk stuck her tongue out at him.
"Snitch."
"Teyam, help me. Lo'ak is a big jerk and he's bullying me." She poked his left cheek.
"Gimme a few minutes, yeah?"
"Sure."
She stayed silent for a while then started shaking him, "Okay, minute's over!"
"I'm up, ma'am, I'm up," He gave her a tired smile.
Now fully awake, Neteyam was able to stand up while carrying Tuk in his arms and twirling her in an effort to lighten her mood just a little. Nope, she persisted in grumbling about how much of a bully Lo'ak actually is, thus it didn't quite work as he'd hoped. He would chuckle at the name-calling and false accusations that she'd make randomly, admitting in his mind that their brother was right to call her out on having a sharp tongue. Obviously, he was aware that she wasn't being sincere and will quickly forget about their 'fight'.
She loves him no matter what.
And his point was proven much sooner. He offered Tuk a drink of water and helped her do her daily morning routine before asking Lo'ak to lend her a hand with her hair and the new accessories that Neytiri gave her so that he could get ready as well. Lo'ak grumbled under his breath but still complied.
"I'm gonna make lots of friends! I hope they like me..I'm nice so why wouldn't they?"
Kiri gave them some of the fruits she went to get in their parents storage space. "Just stay out of trouble, we don't wanna give mom and dad more stress than they're already going through."
"Yeah that's Lo'ak's job, I listen to my mom and dad."
"I'm sitting right here."
"We can see that." Tuk simply bite into the piece of fruit, her comeback made Kiri laugh.
"We cAn SeE tHat." He imitated her in mocking tone, still putting her braids through the beads.
"I'll go see my mom one last time, catch you guys in a bit."
They nodded and Kiri took her leave.
About our lovely queen Kiri. She is the beautiful, inquisitive, intelligent adopted daughter of Jake and Neytiri. As she was born around the same time as Neteyam, they were both simultaneously given a first connection to Eywa at the Tree of Souls in front of the entire clan.
She is unlike any Na'vi or avatar that the Omatikaya have ever met before. From a very early age, she has had an unusually strong connection to Eywa, even more than that of a tsahìk. While out in the forest, Kiri occasionally gets lost in thoughts and quiet meditation and her siblings will find her, eyes closed, feeling Eywa's heartbeat beneath her.
Kiri deeply wishes she could have met her biological mother, Grace, when she was still alive. She does whatever she can to feel closer to her, whether it be visiting Grace's incubated avatar, trying to get answers from Jake, or reading the documents and video recordings that Grace has left behind. Interestingly, Kiri shares many of her mother's traits, such as a certain rebellious attitude and a rather pure love for all that Pandora stands for.
Because Grace had an avatar body, Kiri possesses human-like traits such as her eyebrows and four fingers on her hands. Similar to Lo'ak.
On her way to the lab, she saw Neytiri struggling to lift all the luggage on her own. Jake did tell her they wouldn't need all of those belongings, but she insisted that she isn't leaving anything behind and packed so much stuff that will remind her of home.
"Pfft, mom, do you need help?" Kiri tried to hold in her laugher. Neytiri's posture was amusingly awkward.
"Oh, hey, sweetie..kind of. Your dad's feeding Bob, so I'm left to do this by myself. I should divorce that man, I deserve better."
"Drama queen, I'll help you." Kiri took the other bags that were left; luckily, those were not heavy.
"Thank you, and be careful not to lose your balance. Walk slowly." Neytiri warned her. Following her to the Ikrans, Kiri nodded.
They were able to finish with the task in no time. Then, both let out audible sighs.
"I'll be right back." Kiri resumed with her plan, she started walking away.
"Where are you going?"
"To the lab. Don't worry, I won't be there for long, I'm just gonna say a quick final goodbye to mom and the others."
"Look if you can find any of those strange gadgets in there that can be useful to us!"
"Mom! You're already over-packed." Kiri waved her off.
Hours later:
The moment has arrived for them to leave. Despite understanding their decision, Mo'at felt devastated to be separated from her daughter and her grandchildren. As Tsahìk, the spiritual leader of a Na'vi clan and the most important member next to the clan leader, she couldn't leave her people; they needed her.
She gave each of them a squeezing hug while shedding unrestrained tears of sorrow.
Turning to Jake, she placed her hand on his shoulder. "Protect them with your life. That's my only wish from you."
"I will. That's my duty as a father and mate." She was trembling from all the crying when Jake put his hand on top of hers and made his vow.
Mo'at nodded. She did grow fond of Jake throughout the years; he brought her daughter tremendous happiness, along with four bundles of joy who called her grandma. She was grateful for such luxury. She had long since forgiven the previous betrayals and never held grudges against him. Jake atoned for his initial betrayal by becoming the sixth Toruk Makto in Na'vi history and aligning himself with the clan.
The clan harbors much respect for him as a former leader and had learned a lot from him. And the fact that Mo'at had guided the people alongside him, and her daughter made her feel honored. She accepted their marriage, loved and provided for the family.
"Daughter, be brave and strong like I know you to be." Mo'at instructed her daughter, gaze stern yet encouraging.
With Tuktirey in her arms, Neytiri sobbed and nodded. "Yes, mother."
"Geez grandma, stop squeezing so much, you gonna break my bones." Lo'ak grumbled, earning a smack from Neteyam.
"Lo'ak!"
"What?" He glares at him.
"Thankful that this thing is another territory's problem now." Mo'at said sarcastically and rolled her eyes.
"He's playing grandma, we'll miss you for sure." Neteyam assured her.
"I know. Go ahead, don't let me hold you guys back."
Eventually they all made their bonds with the Ikrans and set off.
'I'll be here waiting for whenever you come back.' Were her last words to them.

|𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐤𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐧|
As Jake has previously informed them, the Metkayina are an oceanic Na'vi clan who live along the shores of the Pandora oceans, on islands or near the mainland. Their homes are marui pods, which are built into the roots of mangrove-like trees spanning the islands. These homes hang directly above the water, presumably for easy access for swimming. Massive seawall terraces, similar in appearance to travertine terraces, guard the villages from strong waves and provide an easy place for the clan to fish.
The wind whistles a new beat, its gentle breeze caressing his face as his world seems to just pause as he takes the majestic wonder in slowly. He loves nature. And the lustrous and bright blue waters that the Metkayina live on are like the oceans that Neteyam thought he'd only see in his dreams. A dreamy sea that has a rhythmic pulse to it unmatched by any other part of nature. Except his home forest, of course.
"Why do you come to us?" The chief of the Metkayina clan, Tonowari, asked Jake.
"I just wanna keep my family safe," Jake replied.
Curly hair appears to be the norm within the clan. Their skin also sways towards a more turquoise color than the traditional blue, and with the fluid, ripple-like stripes he's used to, they blend perfectly with the aqua blue-green of the sea. They have distinct areas of lighter coloration on their underbellies and faces. The people had physical differences that he figured made their life on water easier, like a stronger tail for swimming faster.
"Treat them as brothers and sisters, teach them our ways." Tonowari says to the people.
Neteyam thought their first meeting was quite overwhelming. Although the relationship between his father and Tonowari was civil, their wives definitely didn't start on pleasant terms. While her husband did sympathize with Jake's request to protect their family, Ronal otherwise believes that their arrival inherently invites danger, as they have already brought destruction to their very own home. Neteyam genuinely understood where she was coming from, but their enemy's ongoing ambition isn't solely the family's fault.
And his mother isn't any happier about the situation than Ronal is; she has had to leave her people, her title, and the only home she's ever known. Fortunately, Jake asked her to leave her bow behind or...let's just be thankful.
He didn't appreciate her first impression towards his siblings either; he had to keep his cool in front of his parents, who warned them to do so. Not that he would openly stand up to her; she does seem like she would whoop his ass in front of everyone in a flash with no remorse. Additionally, he made no fuss over the other boys who were making fun of him and Lo'ak because they're deemed irrelevant to him. They were childish jerks.
One thing that most certainly didn't go unnoticed by Neteyam is that the chief's daughter, Tsireya, almost immediately caught Lo'ak's attention when she made her grand entrance. His eyes even sparkled when her father told her to show them their way of life.
They were shown to their marui pods by Tsireya, where they'll be staying at in the meantime. The three of them are still sharing a room, and Tuktirey is now sleeping with their parents as a result of Lo'ak's desperate pleading. So, nothing has changed on that part.
"Okay, Sully's fall in." Jake called out to everyone.
"Remember? Family meeting." Lo'ak was tugged along by Neteyam a little more forcefully than he had intended. If he hadn't caught Lo'ak in time, he knew that he would've skipped the meeting. Kiri was on the same boat.
"-Come on, take a knee, let's go."
"Kiri." Neytiri urged her to sit.
"What?" Kiri said with an attitude. She was still upset about what happened earlier with Ronal; Neytiri could tell that, and she objects to anyone treating her children in such a way.
"I need you kids on your best behavior." Jake looks around as he speaks. "I mean it."
"Learn fast, pull your weight, don't cause trouble, got it?" He added.
"Yes, sir." Lo'ak answered. Neteyam smiled and touched the back of his neck. Lo'ak hissed at him; he too was mad at the way Neteyam pulled him.
Neteyam mumbled a, "My bad."
"I want to go home."
All eyes turned to the little angel in the room, who was quiet until she cried aloud.
"Oh, Tuk..." Neytiri gave her a sympathetic look.
"Tuk, this is our home now." She continues whining as her dad stroked her hand in a comforting gesture.
"We're gonna get through this."
"We're gonna get through this if we have each other's backs, right?" Jake took a quick glance at Neytiri, as a form of asking for her help.
And that she did. "What does your father always say?"
The children nonchalantly uttered their family's slogan, specifically the brothers. You can tell by the way they respond when they say it for the first time that they've really been hearing and saying this their whole lives.
"That's right, Sully's stick together. This time with some feeling."
"-Sully's stick together." Kiri and Tuk joined as they said it altogether.
After the family meeting, the siblings gathered with Tsireya, her brother Aonung, and their friend Rotxo. The Metkayina trio had a head start. Soon Kiri and Tuk dived into the water, following Neteyam and Lo'ak, screaming as they jumped in.
Beneath the Metkayina clan reef is an underwater world absolutely teeming with life. The extraordinary scenery greeted them, with its colorful corals, plants, and diversity of sea species.
The calm and peace down here were incredible. Fishes quickly surrounded them, being friendly. Both above and below the waters, the oceanic wonderland delivers breathtaking experiences.
Tsireya smiles as she watches them, they did look like they were babies taking their first breath but freaking adorable. She was so excited to show them her amazing home environment.
While this is great and all, Neteyam was finding it difficult to stay under the water for too long; his swimming was becoming clumsy, and he needed air. Tuk and Lo'ak were experiencing the same issue.
The three of them went back to the water surface to breathe. Tsireya and the rest noticed that.
Lo'ak afterwards dipped his head back into the water. Tsireya signed to him, "Swim together with us."
Despite their confusion about her gesture, she encouraged them to continue moving forward.
Taking a deep breath, they dived back in, swam for a bit and then resurfaced once more.
"What's wrong with them?" Aonung signed. The stopping was getting on his nerves.
"They're bad divers." Rotxo replied.
"Stop. They're learning." Since they arrived, they have been continuously making fun of the guys, which annoyed Tsireya.
She ignored Aonung's shrugging and resurfaced also.
"Are you alright?"
"You're too fast, wait for us." Tuk voiced, rubbing her eye.
"Just breathe. Breathe." She advised.
"You are not good divers." Aonung popped up. " You may be good at swinging through trees, but-"
He was stopped mid-sentence by Tsireya's smack at the back of his head.
"Come on bro,"
"We don't speak this finger talk. We don't know what you're saying."
Obviously they can't keep up, they just got here. Plus they're confused by the sign language.
"I will teach you." Tsireya gave Neteyam a slight look for referring to it as such and told them, meanwhile Aonung stayed smirking to himself.
Her eyes did a thing that Lo'ak keeps catching, he was impressed by it. He wanted to tell her that.
"Where's Kiri?" Rotxo suddenly interrupted the short conversation.
"Kiri?" Tuk became alerted.
"Who?" Aonung genuinely asked. He then remembered there's another one.
"Kiri." Rotxo replied. "Where's Kiri?"
"Did you see her?" Tsireya frowned, feeling worry creeping inside her.
While they were worrying about losing track of her, Kiri was in her own world. They eventually located her after a brief search. Tsireya led them to a spot where she and her group of friends usually hang out.
They were having their conversation by the seawall terraces, where several people were fishing.
"It was the first time I got to hold a gun like that, kinda heavy.." Lo'ak was telling them the story of when they destroyed the Sky people's supply chain.
"He didn't even know how to use the gun though."
"I told you dad taught me!"
"So? Man we almost died."
"Neteyam got hurt trying to protect his ass as usual, he never listens. He's obsessed with danger." Kiri licked her tongue.
"So much for being the mighty warrior." Aonung laughed.
Tsireya smack him again. She enjoys doing that. "Cut it out, that was brave of him for trying to save his brother. I can only imagine how intense that must've been."
Aonung glared at her, "How are you warriors but almost got blown away by puny Sky people? I can easily take them on."
"Dude, those people have dangerous high-tech weapons like those guns and other stuffs that can easily kill you. You'd wet yourself." Neteyam shook his head at the guy's ignorance.
"Don't mind him, he's just being annoying." Tsireya giggled, agreeing with what Neteyam said about her brother peeing himself. She knows that he lives and breathes cockiness.
"Speaking of annoying, where's little miss demanding? I haven't seen her today. Is she dead?" Aonung turned to her.
"You won't call her that to her face. And she's probably sleeping, so let's not disturb her."
"I wasn't going to, I love my life."
"Who?" Kiri asked confusedly.
"Our beloved cousin," Tsireya smiles brightly. "I'll introduce her to you guys tomorrow."
"Is she pretty?" Tuk asked.
"She's absolutely gorgeous!"
"Meh, I'd say mediocre." Aonung murmured and shrugged.
"What was that? I'm telling her."
"It was nothing!" He cleared his throat. "Why you acting like I'm scared of her or something..?"
Tsireya ignored him. He is scared of her.
"Is she nice like you?"
"Of course. We're literally twins."
"Tuk you'll meet her tomorrow, relax with the questions." Lo'ak softly pinched her cheeks.
"It's fine." Tsireya played with the ends of her hair, secretly eyeing him with dreamy eyes.
"Anyways, back to me..."
-༚༅༚˳✿˳༚༅༚-
Neteyam was strolling through the village's nearby forest alone. He's actually exhausted, but he wanted to free his mind. Just a peaceful moment to himself. He had enough of Aonung boasting about his greatness. Not that he hated the guy; he honestly was at his wit's end. During their ongoing chit-chat about whatever topic, his head was somewhere in the clouds. He'd occasionally say something, and that was it.
The forest had what he sought: peace and quiet. And to his surprise, there weren't that many creatures in sight, the ones he saw were very small in sizes.
He's happy that his family is welcome to stay here. His brother even found a crush on the chief's daughter. This does causes déjà vu. Lo'ak is so much more like their father than he gives himself credit for. Who would have thought that the boy who avoided any girl that approached him would fall in love as soon as he landed here? He was interested in how things would unfold for them.
A new page in their lives' story. It is as scary and amazing as it sounds.
Neteyam's instincts started kicking in all of a sudden. He looked around his surroundings and sighed. It happened again. Him getting lost in his thoughts.
Now he's lost for real. He spent the entire time walking aimlessly and now has no idea where he is or the path to go back. And since he left his throat microphone in the suitcase, he can't communicate with his parents.
I'm fucked.
He stayed put against a tree, walking further didn't seem like a smart thing to do in this situation. Glowing species similar to Shimmyflys' emerged from the flower nectars, heading in the same direction. The waterfall. The burbling was audible to him.
"Mommy's so proud of you, Chichi, you ate everything~!"
His ears perked up.
Was that someone's voice?
Neteyam glanced over his shoulder carefully. First, he saw the waterfall in the background.
He gasped in astonishment at the clarity of the purplish-blue, magical waterfall. At its widest point, it was surging and plunging down the mountain, drizzling onto the rocks. When it toppled into the ecstasy pool, it foamed at the bottom. The rest of the pool was varnish clear, enabling him to see down into the rocky bottom. Fronds of plants and flowers waved gently in the depths. The waterfall looked like a sheet of colors blended as it swished down. Its edges were hemmed with whipped white lines.
Then, he saw her.
The source of the sound revealed herself. His mind went completely blank.
An Ilu swimming freely beside her as she dived into the water. He could only make out her side profile. And he was taken aback by her appearance.
Neteyam suspected that she might not be purely Metkayina. She does have their long wavy black hair, which is casually floating onto the water as she swims. But her complexion is unlike that of any Na'vi he knew of—fair with faded greenish blue stripes. Her body is curvaceous and beautifully toned, similar to that of a female Omaticaya.
However, he wouldn't really draw the conclusion that she was mixed with only them; there are numerous clans in Pandora, some of which could even be hidden. Still, it's possible that she is.
"The more you eat, Chichi, the more you'll grow. Snatch bigger fishes then come to me so I can pet you. M'kay?"
Her voice is warm, charming and sweet.
She was just there, not far, nor close to him, caressing the creature as if it were the most delicate thing in the world. The Ilu swung its tail eagerly in response to her touch.
Should he go ask her for help?...She's a stranger...He's a stranger...What if he scares her...
Neteyam was startled and felt his knees almost give out and nearly fall when she unexpectedly looked up and locked gaze with him. He reacted by retreating. Placing his palm on his chest, he felt his heartbeat pounding.
And the next thing happened in a flash. His breathing, movement, and thought processes came to a complete halt as the knife made contact with his skin, pressing against his throat.
His heart was racing. She's right in front of him, a respectable distance between them, with a glare that was piercing through his soul. Big, bright, kind, and bold describe her eyes.
They remind him of the sea.
"Who are you?"
He did not, and could not, look away from those ocean eyes.
On the other hand, her patience was wearing thin. His silence made her tighten her grip on the weapon, face telling him if he doesn't start talking he'd soon be united with Eywa.
Snapping out of his trance, he raised his hands in defense. "Easy there, easy."
"Who are you? And why were you spying on me, pervert?" She asked, calmly yet firmly.
"Wait what—I'm not a pervert! This is a misunderstanding. I wasn't trying to spy on you, I swear."
"You were looking. Don't think I couldn't see you."
"Just let me explain, yeah?"
She stayed silent, so Neteyam took it as a sign to explain himself.
"The thing is, I was taking a walk since the forest kinda reminds me of home, then I got lost and ended up here by accident."
"An Omaticaya Na'vi taking a walk in a forest far away from his homeland, silly him got lost, and he decided 'hey
why not hide behind a tree to watch someone who could've been naked in a waterfall'. Hmm, that's crazy, right?"
"Well when you put it like that..."
"Boy."
"Alright, alright, I was playing." He grinned, finding her frowning facial expression cute. But this is a serious matter. She's serious, rightfully so.
"My family and I are welcome to stay with the Metkayina clan, approved by leader Tonowari and his mate Ronal. I'm not a complete stranger."
So he's one of the new newcomers some of the villagers were gossiping about, she didn't pay close attention to them. She was rushing by.
"You were wandering around in a place you just came to and not even familiar with? How stupid is that."
"Curiosity did get the best of me. In all honesty, it was better than listening to Aonung brag about how superior he is and what not. I had to pass out on that and dipped." He purposely mentioned the chief's son, although what he was saying was all true.
"Good for you." She shrugged.
"Look, I'm sorry. Even though it was accidental, I did violate your privacy with my actions and gave myself a bad impression." Neteyam knew he had to hold himself accountable, what he did was in fact wrong and awfully misleading. She deserves a sincere apology. "I was debating whether or not I should approach you and ask for help, but I went about it the wrong way. I apologize for that. Really."
Her gaze softened. Now they were just staring at each other. He was anxious, waiting for her to say something.
She didn't respond, instead put the knife in the pouch around her waist, gave him another look, then turned to leave.
"Hold on, wait!" He called out to her.
Slowing down her steps, she tilted her head with arched brows.
"Do you mind helping me get back to the village?"
"Why should I?"
"Uh.." He trailed off, not knowing what to offer her.
How...cute.
"Let's just say you owe me a favor."
"What kinda favor?"
"That's for me to decide."
He said nothing else and followed her.
"And I mean it, you were staring..way too hard at that."
He mumbles under his breath, "Can you blame me..."
"What was that?"
"Nothing."

When is it going to end?
They are forced to leave. Again. Their village, their people, and their way of life to start all over again.
Neteyam is enraged by this to his core. They had already lost their beautiful hometree. The Omatikaya hometree which served as the ancestral home of the Omatikaya clan; it was honeycombed with natural hollows and alcoves in which the Na'vi slept, ate, wove, danced, and celebrated their ties to Eywa. Regrettably, it was obliterated by the RDA's security forces using high-explosive missiles after driving the Na'vi out with tear gas, forcing the remaining inhabitants to relocate. During the attack and collapse of the tree, many of the Omaticaya perished.
His own bow is made from the wood of the fallen hometree. And Neteyam never got the chance to witness it in its prime, when it stood proud and was exalted by the people. He only heard the heartbreaking tales from his grandmother and those who were fortunate enough to survive. The people who are still mourning their lost loved ones, are gradually recovering.
Then it was their second home, destroyed again. Gone with all of his childhood memories.
The thing he is certain of is that the man will stop at nothing to get his hands on Jake's skull. He is capable of and willing to destroy anything in his path to accomplish that ambition.
His parents are under stress without a firm plan. His father only cares about keeping their family safe. He cannot afford to endanger any more lives because of him yet again. Jake suffers from guilt that refuses to go away, not even with time. He can still recall. Everything. He recalls every detail vividly, as though it all happened yesterday.
The screams.
The blood.
The gunfire.
The sorrow.
Everything.
He wants to—no, he needs to change that. And the solution he came up with is to resettle his family far away as possible. So, no more innocent blood will need to be shed. Will that work? He's uncertain of the possibility, but he has hope. He begs for the small miracle.
Jake only asks that they cooperate with him on this and understand. Even though he'd never intended for them to be in this situation, things do happen.
Neteyam is trying to. It's unfair, nonetheless.
He's not just leaving his home; he's also abandoning his special someone. For 4 months and a half, they've been dating. He was in love with her ever since they were little and had been hesitant to ask her out as they grow up. Eventually he grew a pair and confessed to her at her birthday celebration; to his surprise and delight, she accepted and also admitted her secret feelings for him.
Neteyam had a few crushes here and there but none of them compared to his feelings for Yayìu.
She's his first and hopefully last.
He was so absorbed in his thoughts that he didn't hear the knock on the door until the repeated attempts and the voice of his mother calling out his name. Startled, he cussed under his breath and set the bags down.
"Uh—yes, come in!"
Neytiri entered the room with strays of food, while maintaining a straight facial expression. Her eyes swiftly scanned the space.
"I wonder why it took you that long to answer." She asked suspiciously. He's a teenager, and the very fact that his girlfriend hangs around here didn't go unnoticed. Neytiri is supportive of their relationship, but by no means will she tolerate any sort of inappropriate behavior in her home.
"Nothing! I guess I was zooming out..." He defends himself. "Sorry about that, mom."
"Have you started packing yet?" She placed the strays on his nearby table (crafted by Jake).
He nodded. "I already have, and I packed Tuk's too."
"Aw, that's so sweet of you, thank you, darling!" She gives him a smile and ruffles his hair before squeezing the tall boy into her embrace. Neytiri appreciates that her son assisted with one of the tasks that needed to be done because a lot is taking up much of her time. Truth be told, she can always rely on Neteyam for these things. He's a very helpful child.
Neytiri eventually noticed Neteyam's foul mood when he simply hummed instead of giving her the traditional bear embrace.
In order to gain a better look at his face, she gently drew him back by his shoulders. "What's wrong, Teyam?"
"I don't wanna leave home, mom. This is where we belong. We should fight for it. Do you think whatever clan Dad has in mind will just accept us? We're outsiders with different cultures." He finally voices out the words that had been gnawing at him from the inside after keeping them to himself for days.
"Listen, I feel the same way you do. I don't want to leave our village either—our whole lives here. However, as your father said, we really have no other choice."
"Another war is not what we should bring upon our clan right now. We've lost many, many over the years." She gulped to hold back the tears, as her beloved father crossed her mind. Before he died, he handed Neytiri his bow and told her to protect the clan, leaving her devastated with a purpose she holds dear in her heart.
Neteyam still with his eyes glued to the floor, nodded. "Okay, mom."
Neytiri smile sadly and caress his hair. Her identity is tied to her clan; the daughter of their former leader, she has grown into a leader in her own right.
While Jake Sully found a new world and home in Pandora, Neytiri broke many traditions to be with the man she loves. Along with the loss of her father, her home on sacred Na'vi land, and many of her people in the war with RDA. This has continued with Neytiri and Jake starting their precious family between the events. Happiness didn't last long enough with the return of the humans and RDA, now they must find a new safe haven, which will pull Neytiri even further away from her roots.
This is mainly about their safety; sacrifices will be made.
"We're going to be together, we'll get through it together like we always do because us Sullys?"
"Stick together." Neteyam chuckled dryly.
"Exactly. Now promise me you'll look after your siblings please, especially Lo'ak." Knowing about her youngest son's behavioral issues, she stresses the term to make herself clear; she will need to worry about Lo'ak in a new unfamiliar environment. Great mother eywa.
"I promise. Also, did you made the food or Dad?" Neteyam gave her the gaze, eyes pleading with his mother to rescue him from the dreadful mess that is his dad's cooking.
Jake's recent occupation has been trying out different ingredients that the kids are absolutely not so pleased with. Neteyam and Tuk try to be nice, meanwhile Kiri and Lo'ak go haunt by themselves to make their own food or eat at home when it's Neytiri who cooks. Hell no will they let that man kill them from food poisoning.
Neytiri muffled a laugh. "No, I made it, don't worry. It's all your favorites, go eat." She assured him and started walking away.
"Not yet, I have to go find Yayìu."
"Eat first then do that." His mother said sternly, shutting the door behind her. She needed to prepare Lo'ak and Kiri's meals before they return from wherever they are.
—༚༅༚˳✿˳༚༅༚—
After eating, Neteyam immediately headed to Yayìu's house. Neytiri would've surely strangle him if he wasted the meal, plus he had barely eaten since this morning due to lack of appetite. He manages to eat everything, though. Your stomach has to be fed; it doesn't care about your problems.
He didn't find her there, then again, it's rare for Yayìu to stay home and not go outside to enjoy the forest.
As he was walking, he spotted Nan'ti, his girlfriend's best friend. She was weaving alone while singing one of the folk tones. They only interact in Yayìu's presence to avoid any possible misunderstandings. Nan'ti herself knew better; she knows her friend and the grave consequences of upsetting her.
Regarding Nan'ti's character, he didn't really give it much thought. She has a calm demeanor and seems genuinely uninterested in life. She doesn't speak unless spoken to, and she responds if she feels like it.
"Hey Nan'ti, where's Yayìu? She wasn't at home, I've looked for her."
Nan'ti slightly shrugged. She prepared to reply something like, 'I don't know,' or any other excuse she could master, but she paused to give Neteyam a long look before saying, "She's by the river."
Neteyam thanked her and headed further into the forest, having an idea of which river she was referring to.
He noticed the eclipse has begun. And Neteyam defines it as an entirely new experience each and every time. The beauty of the forest is absolutely breathtaking, especially at 'sun-down' as the scientists and his dad sometimes call it. Transforming the forest into something even more exotic, the bioluminescent plants emerge as animals' rustle through the brush, calling out to one another, and disappear into the darkness.
A world truly ablaze with ethereal light. Everything native to Pandora glows, including trees, seeds, moss, waterways, and even the creatures. The peculiar luminosity is celestial; the lichens become like a carpet of stars. The organisms' function like a neural network, all connected to each other symbiotically. This aesthetics of joy are ultimately what makes their world so alluring, valuable, and desperately worth saving.
Neteyam soon arrived by the river and could hear noises. As Nan'ti said, his girlfriend was there laughing with one of the village boys, Zakum, and her friend, Suki. He rolled his eyes and slowed down his step. For some reason he never got along well with Zakum, so he doesn't like to stick around him.
"That little bastard should learn his lesson now." Zakum said with pride, feeling a sense of victory from the fight he had just won against a much weaker opponent. The youngster, who was in front of a group of other teenagers, kept his ground despite knowing he couldn't defeat a fighter like Zakum.
"Sad thing, he lost miserably after all that talking," Suki snickers.
"Yeah, you kind of went too hard on him." Yayìu said, not that she cared. A fight is a fight.
Zakum smirked. Winning brings him satisfaction, beating up lesser beings is what a guy like him enjoys. His strength was witnessed and applaud.
He stood up, yawning. "I have practice tomorrow, I'm out."
Yayìu and Suki waved him goodbye.
Thank goodness he left, Neteyam waits to see if Suki will do the same then he can be alone with Yayìu.
"So, I heard the Sully family is moving soon?" Suki spoke, twirling a piece of her braid between her fingers while casting a few quick glances Yayìu's way. Of course, that's not news to her, who's dating a Sully, and if she's being honest, Suki's not even sure why she started like that. She had to somehow start this conversation; that's what popped up.
Yayìu chuckles, a soft smile appearing on her lips as she questionably looks back at Suki. "Unless you literally live under a rock, everyone in the village knows that. They're all discussing it."
Suki nodded. "Right, uhm what about you and Neteyam? Have you talk to him?"
Yayìu tenses a little at her question. She cleared her throat, "What do you mean?"
"Exactly what I mean."
"Well, we haven't seen each other that much since he told me about his family plans. I understand he has a lot on his plate to worry about. He is needed by his parents and siblings during this time. And I've been busy with stuffs also." She explained.
"That's not what I'm talking about, and you know it, Yayìu. You're only telling yourself those excuses for your own comfort. I think it's best to just tell him what happened." Suki tells her honestly.
"Why are you pressing me? What's your deal?" Yayìu's eyes snap to her face, features hardening because she doesn't want to hear any of this. Suki's interrogations are starting to irritate her. Why is she so engrossed in her business? Nan'ti is far less annoying.
"I'm your friend, Yayìu. I don't want to sound as if I'm judging you...I feel like he deserves the truth. You got what you wanted."
"And I feel like you should mind your own business, stop being comfortable butting in mine. Just shut your mouth, you're—" Before Yayìu could even begin cursing Suki out, she noticed a movement out of the corner of her eyes and turned to see Neteyam approaching them.
She hardly registers the frightened gasp that escapes her lungs, thoughts of him overhearing this stupid convo which was never supposed to happen fills her insides with rising anguish.
Her heart sinks as soon as she meets his gaze; his expression is practically unreadable, but clear enough to tell her he heard them. All thanks to that annoying girl. She should've silenced Suki earlier. Why didn't she simply ignore the pest? This is a whole forest, damn it; anyone could've stumbled upon them here, and the only person she dreads of hearing and finding out this way is standing right in front of her with an empty face.
She panicked, "Neteyam—w-what are you doing here?"
When 'tell me what' makes it out of his mouth, she swallows and tries to move closer to him, but he instantly stops her, keeping a considerable distance between them.
"It's nothing important. W-we were just talking and--" She stutters, struggling to form her words.
Suki quickly left. She earned her ticket to go meet eywa for sure, Yayìu will kill her. But she didn't think she's at fault. This is Yayìu's problem.
As Yayìu takes long, deep breaths, he notices her trembling hands and realizes her state screams nothing but a person who's been caught for their wrongdoings. She's making him very nervous, and he's not even sure what secret she's hiding from him. It must be related to their relationship based on the way she is acting; it can't be a good one. He's so confused.
Their eyes meet, sharing a similar discomfort and he swears, he can't stand the tension any longer.
"Since it's a rude thing, I'd Normally apologize for eavesdropping, but I'm not gonna do that, because I wouldn't have found out you're keeping secrets from me, Yayìu." He sighs, "Whatever you're hiding, get on with it."
The smallest intervals of time seem to last an eternity. Neteyam who's impatiently staring at his girlfriend, is completely unconscious of the internal struggle she's experiencing. This isn't how she imagined the outcomes. Things were going along smoothly, then all of a sudden, they flipped. No doubt she'll lose him, and she must accept the consequences that came back to bite her in the ass.
Yayìu blinks a few times, she has no choice but to tell him since there's no point beating around the bush. "I, uh, after we confessed to each other and broke the news to everyone...someone in particular didn't like it."
Neteyam carefully listens to what she was saying.
Someone. Who could that someone possibly be? Her parents? They barely acknowledged Neteyam and Yayìu's relationship. All they wanted was for him to treat their daughter right and make her happy as he should.
"Please understand that I do care about you. I really do, Neteyam. It was something that happened in the heat of the moment, and I.." Yayìu paused, biting her lip. He frowns at that and casts her a disapproving glare, fighting to maintain his composure.
"You cheated on me," Neteyam doesn't ask, he bitterly uttered it as he lets his anxious sentiments that have been consuming him ever since he overheard her and her friend's conversation flow.
There's a beat of silence.
"He kissed me first..and I kissed him back..." She mumbles, gaining the courage to look at him again with guilty features.
Neteyam felt a ping hit his chest. He's speechless for a minute, staring at her completely dumbfounded with parted lips as his brows furrowed, too shock to speak.
She kissed another man yet always avoided any physical touch during their relationship. Not that he ever pressured her to do things with him that she didn't feel comfortable with. They weren't dating for that long, and he himself wanted to take things slow till they were both ready to go deeper in it. Truthfully, he'd never make a move. Was he not interested in her physical? he didn't have the answer to that. He hugged her once, she quickly retreated, he assumed she was scared, and he apologized.
"Like I said, it was in the heat of the moment. I had feelings for you two, and you confessed to me first. I was okay with that, thinking that I'd be happy with you. A part of me resisted when he made a move out of jealousy over us, but the other part gave in. I guess despite my effort, my feelings for him remained."
"Who is it? Who'd you cheat on me with?" He finally whispers, taking a short and shaky breath.
Yayìu close her eyes and shook her head. "Zakum..."
How fucking hilarious. She betrayed him in favor of a dude who's obsessed with competing against him at any given opportunity. Zakum despises Neteyam for all that he stands for. He has his reasons. Neteyam is the eldest son of well-known heroes who led the clans against the Sky People and successfully defeated the human invaders. Even the entire tribe gathered to celebrate his birth, and he's favored for his strong and confident demeanor. He's a great natural athlete and excels at all things, being nearly unmatched in hunting prowess among the other young members of the Omatikaya clan. He's an expert at archery and the youngest of the clan to make a clean kill on a sturmbeest hunt.
Zakum is undeniably popular with girls for his appearance and his own athletic abilities, but Neteyam still holds the upperhand. He was more irritated by Neteyam's lack of effort to recognize him as a rival.
"Why?" He swallowed.
"If he's who you wanted why did you have to bring me into it? You could've just rejected me. I wouldn't hate you for it. Instead, you fucking used me for such bullshit. What kind of fucked up game is that?!"
"Uhm..." Yayìu slowly trailed.
Because he was necessary to her. The priceless piece of her puzzle. Dating Mr. Perfect skyrocketed Yayìu's popularity, as it would for any girl in the clan. She gained lots of attention from said girls, who dreamed of being in her place. She'd listen to people praising her and telling her how lucky she was. She watched as girls (whom she'd dealt with later on) threw themselves at him, desperate to catch his attention.
Girls gush over him, and other guys aspire to be him. Those qualities are what attracted her to him. Basically, he's a catch and having what many desired made her feel powerful.
They were an attractive couple, she's pretty and he's an eye candy.
As for Zakum, he wasn't any different. She has no actual hope for their fling relationship either. She's using him as well. Afterall, he's a playboy, from whom she holds zero expectations. She had her eyes on them both. Now that Neteyam is practically out of the picture, she luckily fetched herself a rebound in advance. It doesn't matter how long that'll last, as long as she's on top of having to date those two guys.
"I'm sorry." There's no sign of sincerity or falseness in her apology. Two plain words that she simply felt the need to say, to look humane.
Neteyam scoffed, "I bet."
"Oh whatever! We were going to be separated anyways, you're leaving and might not come back. I'd move on someday." Yayìu shouted, swaying her arms in the air.
"Are you serious? You cheated way before that, Yayìu. What the hell is wrong with you!" He exclaims, running his hand through his hair as he tugs on the braids in frustration.
She pursed her lips, staring at him. She can't change anything. What's done is done.
He sighs, "Nevermind, just forgot it. Let's pretend nothing ever happened between us."
Does he honestly want to stay with a girl who has it in her to be so selfish and heartless? Heck no. Then, perhaps this is a blessing in disguise which she shown her true colors and not much later when they are bounded with kids. He'll take this as a learning experience.
"I hope you can have it in your heart to forgive me. You were actually a great boyfriend, so thank you."
Neteyam cringed. What was he supposed to say to that?
"Witch!" Lo'ak suddenly jumped out from atop of a big tree, yelling while throwing fruits directly at Yayìu. Kiri accompanying him.
Yayìu gasped and quickly stretched her arms in attempts to protect herself. "Stop it! Are you crazy, you brats?!"
Poor Neteyam barely reacted to the outburst, he was holding himself back from crying. Not in front her, and his siblings. She's not worth his tears, he tried to convince himself.
"Keep 'em coming-" Kiri was told by Lo'ak. She continued to give him the fruits, grinning.
"Ow! Ow—How dare you, four fingered freaks! You'll pay for this!" Yayìu screams in pain.
"How dare you cheat on my brother, bitch! I always thought he lowered his standards for you, you're not even all that." He yells back.
Yayìu couldn't believe those offensive remarks. If he wasn't hitting her with those fruits, she would've grabbed the brat by his ears and taught him how to speak to a lady. An outcast like him should grasp his place in this world. How dare he!
When Lo'ak purposefully increased the strength of his aims, she had no choice but to hastily flee and shouted that she won't forgive their disrespect.
Laugher erupted from the two siblings as they high fived each other.
"I guess we Sullys have a thing for eavesdropping." Neteyam mumbled to no one in particular.
"A creature was chasing us after we accidentally stepped on its tail; we ended up here, and Lo'ak decided to be nosy when he heard that cheater and her friend. He wanted dirt on her, and honestly, same." Kiri explained in details. She shifted to be by his side, soothingly rubbing his back.
"You alright, bro?" Lo'ak asked his older brother, a tone full of earnest concern.
"It's her loss. You're way better off without her, Teyam. You deserve better."
"Kiri's right, plus you have us."
"I think that's more of a curse than a blessing." Neteyam groaned, rolling his eyes playfully.
"Bro what?? We're awesome and we're here for you! Nothing's stronger than family."
Neteyam would be lying if he said he wasn't affected by this. It hurts. It's a huge blow to the ego. He trusted her. That's why he never questioned her relationships with other guys she called her friends. She took him for granted, his feelings, his heart. No one with real love for a person would betray them like this. She was the girl he saw a loving future with. Maybe they might split up at some point, but that was another day's worry. This is too soon and damn painful.
Well, it all did become clear. It had little to do with him. She preferred another guy. It didn't mean he did anything wrong or wasn't good enough. It was her choice. Instead of being a good and honest person, she lied to save her own face. He knew he had kept his integrity throughout their brief relationship. He knew he was good enough. He knew he had plenty to offer someone else. And he knew he'd rather be by himself than with a she-wolf who would lie and use him.
He shrugged, "Let's go, mom cooked."
"Okay, c'mon." Both Kiri and Lo'ak's arms were securely wrapped around their older brother's slender waist as they swung their bodies to escort him back home. They granted him a moment of peace to himself.
