the way that no one wears a mask at my local LGBTQ clinic, and in fact comments on my mask like it's just this hilarious little idiosyncrasy that I still wear one and not because I'm immunocompromised and we're in the middle of a pandemic ... as if there isn't an airborne virus that literally fucks up your immune system ... as if we didn't lose a generation of queer people to another virus that fucks up your immune system ...

#I'm so worried about my parents who acquired their safety habits in early COVID and stuck to em religiously BUT #who haven't kept up with changing data about what kind of masks are safest and when you need to have a mask on... #so they're using extremely well-fitted masks with less than adequate filtration and generally only masking indoors #plus they'll do unmasked indoor social time with close friends with way less consistent habits

tbh I think a huge part of what scares wingers abt support of trans kids is that it implicitly requires listening to children, validating their gut feelings and their personal wants. the idea that a child can say ‘something is wrong with how I'm being treated‚ perceived‚ and spoken to‚’ or‚ ‘the narrative I have been fed about my body and societal role is incorrect‚ and that's hurting me‚’ and every adult is morally obligated to respectfully say ‘you're right‚ what can we do to help? what has to change for you to be comfortable?’ is a TOP PRIORITY DANGER to a society that wants children controlled‚ indoctrinated‚ and to be perpetually available for abuse of all kinds. it's why they try to frame trans ppl as incomprehensibly deluded and as too perverted to be let around young people; bc they can recognize what a danger it presents to their social constructs if children realize they have a voice in anything at all.

a lot of what i've noticed about the moral panic surrounding children among right wingers is it creates the exact sort of situation where child abuse thrives. you can't trust anyone but family. don't send your child to school. keep your child isolated from the scary outside world. tell me, who statistically is most likely to abuse the child? family, and children abused by families are likely to stay trapped in an abusive situation since they're dependent on their parents for survival. they're also likely to be shamed, accused of lying, and blamed for family problems. not everyone is safe at home, that's just the way it is. community support of children is what abusers fear so don't dare claim you care about victims while advocating isolation. the first person to tell me "the way your dad treats you is wrong, that's not normal" was not a family member...

there is still hope and kindness in the world and not everyone outside your home is your enemy
