GRIND TRICKS
A feature returning from the testfire, this time with more utility! Every time you perform a grind trick, you gain a bit of speed. Each new grind rail you hit resets your grind trick staling, allowing you to gain a bigger point bonus. Leaning into a rail while tricking will give you an extra boost of speed.

Actually there have been a couple! There was an official Sonic game planned in 2005 by the people who animated Sonic Heroes. It was essentially a Tony Hawk game with Sonic characters. The pitch was unfortunately rejected.
As for Sonic games with trick systems similar to this one, there was also a fan game called Sonic XLR8 which does quite a few things that Sonic Storm also does, including redesigning Sonic. It’s quite old, not sure when it was made but it was at least ~7 years ago. Give it a try if it sounds like your sort of thing! - Azu
TRICKS
The fun part!! You can perform tricks by pressing X/Y (or K/L or LMB/RMB depending on your layout if you haven't changed keybinds). It's recommended to alternate between the two to prevent staling.
The power mechanic from the testfire has been repurposed. Instead of collecting rings to raise your power level, instead you gotta stack a combo. 20 tricks for each power level. (there are only 3 this time, made clear by the colour of your particle effects)
There are all kinds of tricks. I'll go over them one by one for each post.
AIR TRICKS - Fairly self-explanatory. Press X or Y in the air to perform one. Good for keeping a combo going while searching for another object to continue your combo offa, or reducing staling after hitting a lot of grind tricks

There's been a lot of development in terms of lore, writing and animation quality since these were made, as is hinted at the end of the second episode. Right now there are a few more in progress, and the next one is slowly nearing completion. It'll be about shpineapples.

not really a question, more of a comment in the form of one and a different slightly unrelated comment.
how would you feel if your game's art style (and a few others' or whatever) inspired someone's aesthetic taste and/or character design philosophies?
i'd also like to say that i may or may not make fanart to celebrate the sonic storm news channel getting an official tumblr blog, but i can't fully promise it considering how i am with those kinds of promises.
If people get inspired by any games I direct or have a hand in, that just means I did my job! I'm a game developer partly because I want to see games as a whole evolve in unique, stylish and creative ways. I want to live in a world where games have equal amounts of love put into every one of their aspects, and I'd be happy to contribute to that. So having someone be inspired by works I make is honestly the best compliment to me~
