     being inside wasn’t an unwanted change – it wasn’t like he could see the stars from the light pollution anyway. it gave him that same false sense of security that he held onto tightly, and right now was no exception. his gentle expression suddenly faded, however, as he’s led to the bathroom. this was a turn bucky hadn’t been expecting. the small tub looked just barely big enough for an average adult, let alone one of his size and stature. licking his lips, he hesitated a moment. 

                                                  eh, why not. he was gross.

          “ wouldn’t wanna be rude. “ 

     the endearing look returned to tired features, human hand reaching to turn the water on and get a feeling for the right temperature. “ i don’t think i’m hurt … ? “ though it was hard to tell – injuries were normally tuned out unless they were severe and life threatening. it wasn’t until he’d peeled the shirt from his upper body that he noticed the laceration on his waist. a minor wound by his standards. nothing more than the gunpowder burns covering his right hand; he could wash it off and be on his way. 

                  Irunya eyed him curiously. Such a wonderful man, she thought, so interesting. He’d been through an entire gun fight and acted like the most polite man there was. “ I guess we’ll find out, ” she says playfully, though the concern doesn’t leave her eyes. When he peels his shirt off, she can’t help but to stare. Littered in scars, yet well toned. He was undeniably attractive.

                  After a few moments of ogling, she looked down sharply, clearing her throat. “ I um -- I have something for the wound. Let me -- let me go get it. ” Her tone is awkward and she feels a twinge of guilt for staring at him for so long. Irunya had been isolated for many years. The last time she saw a shirtless man in person, well, that was ages ago. 

                  Brushing passed him, she slips out of the bathroom and makes her way to the kitchen. Grabbing the first-aid kit from under the sink, she slinks back in, hoping he wasn’t fully nude and in the bath by then. Just in case, she’s covering her eyes. “ I got it -- you aren’t naked, right ?? If you’re not, I can take my hand way. ”

     he hesitates as she speaks, eyes focused on the ground, his hands, the wall – anywhere except right at her. handling and working through emotions was still difficult for him, he struggled with it daily. most things he’d worked with were negative: fear, stress, anger, hatred, anxiety. he was good at bad things, but irunya … she made him feel good. every aspect of her. her words, her smiles, she made the sun rise and birds sing. and then there was bucky, leeching her light and warmth. but her words were so sweet, he didn’t understand. none of this made sense as he tried to force the thoughts through the broken fragments of his mind. she liked him being there? he couldn’t fathom why.

     he turns to her, finally, swallowing hard and bringing himself to gaze upon her face. god, how weak she made him feel.

          “ of course i’ll stay. “ it’s rough yet soft, head cocking slightly off to one side, “ i’m here because i want to be. if i was afraid of the work, i wouldn’t stay with you. i know you’re used to handling things yourself – but you have me now. i want to be here, i want to help you. “ his attempt at wearing his heart on his sleeve is covered with the slightest of smiles, just enough to wrinkle the corners of his eyes. he doesn’t smile enough for her. he should start doing it more, because her reactions when he did were well worth it.

          “ i’m going to finish up outside, okay? i’ll be back in a little bit. please sit and try to relax until i’m done. promise? “

     he leans in close, holding out the pinky of his human hand to her. 

                    “ promise?? “

                   Life had trained her to expect cruel words. She wondered if he’d respond like her grandfather, belittling her for showing emotion like that. Or perhaps like Natviya, who’d berate her for being so open-hearted. Most painful of all, she’d imagine, would be if he responded like Viktor; called her weak for feeling such things at all with the most pleasant of smiles. But instead, he responds sincerely, kindly, and shes taken aback. 

                 “ It just seems -- seems like you were made for so much more than this. Bucky, you’re so special, so unique and wonderful, ” she pauses, pushing the food around with her fork. “ I just don’t under stand why you’d want to spend your time with someone like me. ”

                   There’s a sad smile on her lips when she finishes her words, head tilted to the side ever so slightly. His smile does wonders to lift her spirit. She can’t help but to think she didn’t deserve such gestures. “ Even your smile; it seems like you waste such beauty on me. ”

                   Irunya cuts her existential musings short, nodding at his words. “ Yeah, I promise, ” she says gently, though she’s not entirely sure if she means it. When he holds his pinky out, though, she pauses. What a dork. An absolute doofus. Oh, how she loves him. Y’know, in a totally platonic way. Linking her pinky with his, she pulled his hand closer, leaning around and placing a kiss to the back of it. A small, red stain is left where her lips were, and she looks up at him with a twinkle in her eye.

                 “ I marked the pipes that are still broken with red flags. ”
