Carter and Zia
I love the fact that Carter is such a simp for Zia, like he probably thinks she’s a goddess (which I mean she kind of is since Ra and her are so intertwined). But like same Carter, same. I’m a simp for Zia too ngl.

rereading tlt i noticed how percy used water to reinforce his jump and so the thirty foot impossible jump he did in tartarus could be explained using this logic—except there’s a catch. in tlt he uses ocean water, in tartarus he had just been submerged in the river cocytus which he almost immediately succumbed to and needed annabeth to save him (which says a lot about his mental health but that’s another thing); like annabeth snapped out of it, percy did not. when they were falling, he tried to control the cocytus but it wasn’t responding, yet after taking a dip he can jump thirty, fifty (?) feet without a problem.
it seems like percy’s darker aspects became atuned to tartarus’ essence, or rather, tartarus had an immediate effect on percy and his powers. because as we know there is a darker aspect to percy’s personality, but while he could not consciously control the cocytus as they were falling, his subconscious was able to use the energy gained from the cocytus to make that jump across it. so his subconscious is already aware of this darker side he may be repressing, which is then revealed more and more to the reader the longer percy stays in tartarus. tl;dr dark percy. that’s all

the scene where annabeth falls into tartarus is actually so good cause she doesn't know it's happening until it's too late. people place too much emphasis on percabeth, but this is all annie. annabeth just faced arachne, someone who despises her mom, and during that time, she constantly asks her mom for help and gets no response. when arachne is done building the trap that annabeth tricked her into making, she even looks at it and has to wonder if arachne is the better weaver, but she doesn't because she was taught that her mom is the best no matter what. so annabeth is relieved to have make it out on her own, and her friends are there, and she was under so much pain, and percy's finally there, and then out of nowhere, she's holding onto percy for dear life. and all this happens under the cold uncaring eyes of the athena parthenos. annabeth does all this for her mom and for the camps, to never receive any help from her mom. the only help she gets before she drops into hell is the squeezing fingers of percy. and that's kind of what being a demigod is, isn't it? you know you fight for your parents honor and they're always watching, but they never help when you need them most, even as you go through so much pain and frustration. anyway yeah, this buildup and scene is actually really good, imo 💕

so you want to talk about how annabeth is an absolute genius! okay bet (contains moa spoilers)
can’t get out of an opening if you jump?? weave a LADDER out of KITE STRING god i love her
might get stuck in a labyrinth?? unravel some thread, old trick but! a good one!! fire or torch? —> THAT was how mithras killed the bull, obviously!! statue of mithras stuck in a rock?? he’s not STUCK, he was BORN from the rock, the servants’ most closely guarded secret was found out???? in five minutes?? by annabeth? “She was thankful for stupid male ghosts, if they’d let women warriors into their cult they might have learnt some common sense” AND NOT FORGETTING THAT SHE SINGLE-HANDEDLY RAISED THE ATHENA PARTHENOS, with a BROKEN ankle, facing her GREATEST FEAR, and TRICKED arachne info weaving her own trap. fr beat that
sorry i needed to channel the fangirling somewhere

If you’ve read Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods, you know that he talks about abuse is never the victims fault. Can we talk, for a second, about how long it must have taken him to get to the point where he doesn’t blame himself? I know that Uncle Rick wrote the book, but let’s pretend for a second that Percy actually wrote it. Let’s talk about how long it must have taken him to get to that point. I cannot express how much I love this character and these books. He is literally my favorite boi.

ok but hear me out… it’s been years and i still can’t stop thinking about percy in the huge ass ocean just feeling annabeth’s dagger somewhere in the water and immediately going over like “my girl needs me” and just flooding octavian and crew and then just being like “you dropped this”. all poker face as if he didn’t just. do that. like. that’s ROMANCE okay. unparalleled.

so we all talk about how percy just knew annabeth was in trouble when she threw her dagger in the harbor,,, but we don’t talk about how annabeth had 100% confidence that percy would know exactly what was wrong.

So I was reading the Sea of Monsters graphic novel and came across this:
Tumblr media
Like Percy actually had a picture of Annabeth on his locker and everything and Matt Sloan made fun of him saying that a hot girl will never date someone like Percy
And then
4 years later
No big deal
Tumblr media
Hey Sloan have you met my hot girlfriend Annabeth
You tore up her picture once so she’s here to kick your ass.

You know, at first I was like WHY do all of the parents in HOO suck? Why is Sally Jackson the only parent who isn’t dead or incompetent? Plenty of people have messed up family situations, or dead parents, but what are the odds ALL of them have have issues?
But then I realized maybe that’s the cost of falling in love with a god. Mortals aren’t meant to fall in love with the divine, and it almost always ends in tragedy. And that tragedy isn’t just shouldered by the kids, it rests on the shoulders of the parent as well.
We have Beryl Grace, driven mad by her desire and need for attention from the king of the gods, and Marie Levesque driven mad by the need for power. Both of these women asked for too much, which gods actually provided, and it destroyed them. Our other dead parents are Emily Zhang, Esperanza Valdez, and Maria Di Angelo, all of which died from the wrath of a god or because of a god. Emily died because of her family gift bestowed by Poseidon, Esperanza was killed by Gaea to deter Leo, and Maria was killed by Zeus because she and her children were a threat. The blame for these deaths land squarely on the gods, but it’s the mortals who suffered.
Our three living parents are Tristan McLean, Fredrick Chase, and Sally Jackson. Tristan and Fredrick have a similar problem, which is they’ll always hold a candle for Aphrodite and Athena respectively. Their kids are a living reminder of what they can never have, and there’s no way they don’t harbor at least a tiny bit of resentment. For Fredrick that’s moving on with a new family and neglecting Annabeth, and for Tristan that’s burying himself in his work with little time for Piper.
And then we have Sally Jackson, who breaks the pattern. But the reason Sally turned out okay is because she refused Poseidon’s offer. She didn’t give in to temptation for Poseidon to build her a palace under the sea, or to stay with her. She accepted his departure as necessary, not a tragedy. And so she treasured Percy, the gift she could accept.
None of this is especially the mortal’s fault, it’s the lasting legacy the gods impose upon them, that they and their children will never have happy endings. Whether Rick intended this or not, I thinks it’s tragically poetic.

Camp Jupiter: Don’t want to worry about fighting, that’s cool, have some hot chocolate. No seriously, it’s fine if you guys don’t want to fight, you can go relax in New Rome with your families that aren’t in constant danger. You know why? Because we got this “society” shit on lock, son, on lock. We have an army of the elite and everything.
Camp Half-Blood: Y'all motherfuckers better be on constant alert because if that tree gets compromised it’s our asses. Bitches better learn to fend for your lives 24/7. *mumbles* Teenagers thinking this is a fucking game, singing songs and shit while the world’s in danger.

going to rb this to my PJO blog instead of the main, lol
I have no doubt it will look better than my attempts.
and yeah, she really, REALLY does have a long way to go, she has not decided if she will take the plunge yet, tho.
k, one of many scenes I love about early Percabeth hints was in SoM, when they are on the Hippocampi (trying to keep this vague bc I don't want to spoil the series for my best friend who is also on Tumblr, I hope it remains coherent) after the island, and Annabeth is hurt, Percy covers her with the Fleece and whispers to her that she's a genius. Do that?
Oooooh okay, so, prepare for this to look like crap but I'll try!! Also, idk who your friend is but man do they have a long ways to go 👀

So I just finished the last Trials of Apollo book...
The fact that Apollo is obsessed with Estelle and thinks she will rule the world was easily one of my favorite parts of the book. Imagine having the god of the sun, music, and medicine want to save the world for you and you’re not even 1 yet. Incredible
Piper being canonically bi/pan is absolutely fantastic.
Apollo’s relationship with his kids is so special
Nico and Will are iconique™️ like their relationship was so cute and fun and supportive like wow the opposites attract trope really works here ... also the potential for books w those two? I’ve never wanted this more in my life
Apollo’s whole arc is honestly so beautiful
The snippets of our faves at the end 😭
10/10 honestly, would read Apollo’s perspective again
