I've followed your art for a few years and really like your stuff. You've got me really interested in MP100, since your AU is so good. Also, can you do a followup of sick Reigan being held by the Kageparents on the couch or something? Seeing a sick or weak person being lovingly cared for is so wonderful

Yay Whump prompt.
Character C knocks on the door to be greeted by a very anxious looking B.
“How are they?” C asks about character A. A has suffered some kind of injury or whatever and ends up with a few broken ribs and such.
“Somehow caught a cold,” B mutters, “You have no idea. They’re actually admitting they’re in pain instead of saying they’re fine for once so-“
They’re both interrupted by what sounds like a sneeze and a groan of agony from A’s room.
B sighs, awkwardly wringing their hands, “You can go see them if you want. But they’re all drugged up on pain medication.”
“It doesn’t seem to be working.”
“So I’ve heard.”

Fevers and feverish characters. I’m all about the qualitative descriptions, not the quantitative. I don’t need or want to know the character’s exact temperature, and in any event if the character isn’t human who knows how high their fever runs?
The nice thing about fever is that it’s a nearly universal symptom, and even living machines could overheat and feel feverish if unwell. All sorts of creatures can feel weak, sweaty and flushed, just barely staying upright. Characters trying to tough it out and plow through it, but anyone can tell that they’ve seen better days.
Fever is wonderful because it’s one of those symptoms that demands that the character rest. Sniffles and sneezing are easy to brush off, even a bad cough can be ignored. But swaying on your feet with sweat running down your back, damp locks of hair framing the face– someone is bound to notice that.
“You look flushed… goodness you’re burning up!”
“You can’t go outside in this weather running a fever.”
“You have to stop working and that’s final. I’m not going to have you collapsing on the job.”
“Why are you so wearing so many clothes? It’s not cold in here. You look awful.”
Fever has a flexible degree of debilitation, from the slightly feverish character who just needs a little rest and TLC all the way up to the deliriously feverish character who is bound to reveal too much. You can knock the character out and lay them low, have them babble some dark secret and/or their true feelings for their caretaker, or they can enjoy a fluffy moment of being coddled. Maybe both, if their illness is progressive!
And the caretaking paraphernalia: lots of cool beverages, cool damp towels on the brow, fever-reducing medicines [tonics, coolant, potions, nothing at all, depending on setting]. Keeping the character away from drafts, and draping a light blanket over them. Not too warm, but enough to keep them from being chilled.

In this essay I will-
- discuss little (and not so little) pain noises.
A soft gasp when a muscle twinges or an old injury resurfaces. An unexpected stabbing sensation when the body doesn’t behave the way it used to or the way it should. An intake of air when someone inadvertently hits a healing wound while trying to be jovial or giving a pat on the back or a light punch to the shoulder.
And then there’s the exhale. A long sigh perhaps? Right away or after having held it in for a moment or two because: PAIN. Maybe that exhale is a low groan while they get their bearings again. A soft groan can be the only clue that a whumpee is in the room, buried under several blankets, no energy to anything else but make sad noises to anyone who will listen and take pity on them. Or perhaps they’ve just woken from surgery.
The nondescript exclamation. The sound a person makes when they stub their toe, bump their funny bone. A muffled cry followed by an optional whimper or expletive(s). Perhaps they were saying something when someone clonked them on the head from behind. The last word uttered mangled and elongated by a yelp.
Whimpering, not to be confused with begging or stuttering. The sort of stilted cry of a person who is in clear pain and is trying not to make a scene. The sound of panic (from injury or not). Usually preceded by a louder or higher pitched groan, often accompanied by tears. And depending on when pain relief is coming this may lead into grunts and shouting.
Oh the sharp cry of someone who’s been stabbed, shot. Someone having a bone re-set in the field or bullet removed. Cauterizing the wound? Screaming, quickly being muffled or shushed. The kind of sound that demands comforting and encouragement.
Soft hands trying to placate or support or hold onto for their own good. Firm but determined until the little pain noises trip back down the scale as the whumpee loses consciousness.

One thing that I absolutely love in caretaking are the simple acts of intimacy
When my boyfriend broke his right arm last year and needed to go to a job interview, I was the one shaving his face, and helping him dress, and doing his hair, and despite how sucky it was for him to spend a whole month with his arm in a sling, we both enjoyed those moments of him trusting me to help him with some basic everyday tasks.
That’s something I love seeing in fics, and something I don’t see much of.

Now that I have this blog, I thought I could share a character that I’ve had for quite some years, made just for writing this kind of thing! I’ve loved and cherished this boy for so long but have barely gotten to actually do anything with him because most people that I’ve written with in the past aren’t really as excited about these kinds of plots and the like. But!! This place seems like a great place to share him & keep his information and such!
.
I did have a drawing of him that an old friend had made me, but they no longer wish for me to use it publicly.
.
I’ll put his info under a cut, because it’s just a tad on the long side!
.
Cedric Mattins, 20 years old, 5’6″, is a Freshman majoring in mathematics. He is extremely skinny, and very pale. He has lots of freckles on his face, big glasses, and brown/blonde short hair that is usually pushed back. He mostly wears sweater vests and things of the sort.
.
The boy holds a dark secret, however, as he was actually created in a lab that had been dabbling in human testing for years out of the public eye. Cedric was the only test subject to survive, but barely. Cedric is actually very sick, and has to have a continuous supply of “medication” hooked up to him at all times. This "medication" was made for him specially by the scientists in the labs. No one knows what's actually in them but the scientists, not even Cedric. He can’t take ANY other medication with these special ones, as they have adverse effects when mixed. This includes painkillers, flu medications, and allergy medications.
.
He has a small device that hooks onto his waistband, that sports a tube that sticks out of his left side. It supplies Cedric with a constant supply of the medicine he needs, being released in intervals throughout the day. The tube is quite long, though only a very small portion can be seen externally. Thanks to the length, and Cedric's skinny frame, if he were to lift up his shirt, you would be able to see the entire tube clearly under his skin. Said tube can be very painful and uncomfortable when sitting, walking, laying the wrong way, etc. However, the "doctors" assure him that it's fine. Getting it caught and pulled out needs immediate medical attention.
.
Cedric doesn't actually know about the fact that he was a subject of human testing. The lab created false memories for him, such as a "childhood", and of his parents kicking him out at 18, telling him not to contact them anymore, that he "costed too much" to care for, and "caused too many problems". This is why Cedric does not question not hearing from his "parents" now. He has no idea they don't actually exist.
.
The labs decided to benefit off of Cedric, by convincing him that the scientists are "specialty doctors", and that they were giving him this medication that can help him. It costs an arm and a leg to purchase, even though it's relatively cheap to make, and Cedric has to work more than one job to try and pay for it, as he literally cannot survive without it. He goes to this "specialty hospital" twice a month for "checkups", which are really just so that the scientist can check on their one living subject.
.
Some extra facts;
Has an allergy to pet dander, and suffers from hay fever. He also has an inhaler, and a manual oxygen pump for emergencies.
Really feels like he’s a burden, and does not like getting close to people in fear of slowing them down or being a handful.
Cannot eat much, and usually only eats in the afternoon, which he does so in his dorm, alone. He can easily make himself sick if he has any more than he can handle.
Works a part-time job at a corner store, where he is treated rather badly, and it doesn’t pay well. He also works at the University library re-stacking shelves, as well as doing some middle-school tutoring work for extra money.
Has a bit of a stutter.
Loves tea (especially peppermint), large baggy sweaters, curling up on the couch— basically anything warm. He gets cold very easily.
Has to spend most of his money on medicine and medical bills, meaning he can only afford a very small dorm (which he lives in alone solely because roommates can never handle living with him), and has to work extra shifts to try and pay for classes and books. He has a very old flip-phone that has extremely limited minutes and no text. He owns a bike, but usually takes the bus when he can, as cycling tires him out.
Super shy, but cares about people greatly. He’s a really good friend to have if you have the patience to break through the shell.
Highly intelligent.
Gets headaches and stomachaches very easily. Also easily tired.
Has ocular albinism, making his irises a pale blue color, and making him very sensitive to harsh light.
Nearly blind without his glasses.
Usually shies away or lies when he is feeling ill.

Specific scenarios are my Jam so like
Character A being so sick with the flu they’re constantly groggy and unable to stay awake. Their nose is so stuffed up they haven’t been able to breathe properly for hours, and blowing doesn’t help at all either. The coughing is from deep in their chest, sounding sicker and sicker with each fit. Character B goes to change the cold compress on A’s forehead as they sleep, but it accidentally wakes them up and like, their eyes are just glassy and exhausted and their cheeks are such a deep feverish pink. Whether they’re wearing a medical mask (or a cute sick mask) is up to you lol but they start coughing and gasping, and gently push B away as they try to cover their mouth. They half-turn to face their pillow to the best of their ability, trying to muffle it, but a harsh sneezing fit makes them bend sharply at the waist, shoulders jerking forward with each one. They grab the edge of the bed and try to stop sneezing so violently because it’s getting really hard to control them. It’s exhausting how forceful they are, and when they eventually settle down, B hears the sick-sounding swallow thing and them sighing from defeat.
