making a quake 3 player model in the modern day is fascinating because it honestly feels like a dead art form. the lead-up to making this was a literal week of a friend and we digging through decades old forums and massively outdated tutorials and tools, chipping away at figuring out how to do it again with modern setups and limited applicable information. It's very cool in a way even if it has undoubtedly been a struggle.
we'd love to compile all the info we found some day to help other people learn how to do it too. its a very interesting and unique process compared to modern character making for stuff like VRChat for sure, thanks largely to the way idtech3 handles animated models.
