I'm writing an "About Me" to pin at the top of my blog and creating some masterlists in order to organise things a little better and I'm probably exposing a little too much of my inner thoughts and feelings while writing the FAQ, if I'm being honest 💀

So question and feel free to ignore me. How much of the original sources do you decide to keep and how do you decide what to scrap from your fanfic. So I just finished chapter 1 of my first fourth wing fanfic that is following the story line and not just being worked in an area that we don’t know about (like before the rebellion) and I’m almost at 10k. I’m hoping my beta will help find things to cut back on but there are conversations that I don’t know if I should cut and any advice would be appreciated.

So personally I try to cut as much as I can while still keeping to the storyline. Follow along and add your own spin on it, but people don’t want to read the same lines over and over again, so unless the particular words have impact, leave them or rephrase them.

In Fear & Flame Remi tunes out conversations, or references things that were said without them being actively repeated because I wanted to avoid readers having to listen to the same things over and over again (because it gets tiring).

The first part of the story will be the worst if you’re following FW, there will be certain speeches you might find it hard to avoid and things like that, but just try to leave out or paraphrase as much as you can and add in new lines and new content.

I just had to do a massive presentation for French about Victor Hugo and the whole time I just wanted to reread your fanfic but I controlled the urges and finished (all 21) slides yayay now i can read your fic as a reward. (don't ask me what this is I just felt like sharing my traumatic homework experiences)

One time I had to write an essay on fandom and I wrote about Supernatural and the way they incorporated meta episodes breaking the fourth wall and what they meant to do by that, and the professor said I misinterpreted the source material I referenced and that’s not what they meant/were saying basically and I was like??? Nah but you’re wrong because I was just at a convention and they were asked…so they said what they said, straight up… (but no, in academia you are always wrong and the professor is always right and fuck you for suggesting otherwise) my degree is the most expensive piece of trash I ever bought 🥰

I would say write chapter three. If you feel like chapter two is a bit mid, write three and maybe four, then look back on them collectively because you'll then see how they connect and it might look a lot better to you—if not, you can always then go back and edit two, because you know where it's headed now and include some more threads linking them up.

Whatever you write, I'm sure it's going to be great 💖

Just came from AO3 to say that your writing is some of the best that I have ever read! Your character writing of Xaden is phenomenal and personally I think better than Fourth Wing. It drew me to him as a character when it never did in the original. You gave him depth and personality that he had originally lacked and I LOVE it.

Remi and Bodhi are a fantastic friendship duo and I’m glad that there was no drawn out drama over their brief fling and they can continue on being friends.

I’m excited to see where the rest of the story goes and how all the relationships evolve in Truth & Talon.

I also appreciate that you kept my baby angel Liam alive.

Because they absolutely terrify me, which sucks for the job I'm going to be doing over the summer.
