Before I go any further with Whistleclan's story I wanted to make some fanart for the Clangen blogs that inspired me soooo much to make my own!! have been wondering about the future of this blog, seeing as clangen is effectively infinite and it's taken me months to get about 16 moons in. specifically, as the clan grows, it's gonna get naturally harder to balance the storytelling between all the different characters and some will fade into the background. i will ultimately make my own decisions that best suit the stories i want to tell, but i just wanna gague some opinions about how you guys would most like this blog to be presented

*by "more in depth focus", i mean more attention given to each individual character and passing moon. i've been pretty in-depth so far, but as the clan grows bigger, this will result in slower updates or each moon taking longer. a less in-depth route would be more zoomed out and less personal, allowing the characters less room for individual development and maybe splitting the cast more into "main characters" and supporting ones, but letting me follow the clan through a longer period of time. (an example of this would be how i handle character death. a less in-depth focus could give less prominent characters deaths a panel or two long, allowing me to really focus in on more major events. a more in-depth focus could make several comic pages out of every single one, giving them a thorough sendoff and exploring how the death affects everyone else, at the cost of taking a lot longer)

**by "more/less polished art", i mean more attention to detail on the art side. I think I've been doing something in between (fully lined and coloured but often simple backgrounds and no shading). more polished art would make things a lot prettier but take more time, less polished art would look rougher but allow pages to come out a lot faster.

sure! here are assigned pokemon teams for the skuaclan members, based purely on vibes and not any actual gameplay viability or type cohesion. i've given the younger characters less evolved teams, even though they're adults now, cause there's still a major generational divide between them + sun/fox/cinder that i feel in my soul. you can decide if this is "pokemon they would own as a trainer/gym leader", "pokemon they would be drawn to use in a playthrough" or "their favourite pokemon" because my choices are a mixture of all of those

sunstar:

(honourable mentions: rapidash, sceptile, ampharos, and serperior)

foxfern:

(honourable mentions: breloom, falinks, thievul, hitmonchan, escavalier, leavanny, klefki)

cinderplume:

(honourable mentions: empoleon, drapion, xatu, mabosstiff, camerupt, tropius, beartic)

berrystripe:

(honourable mentions: every fire type starter. berrystripe is the kind of person who always picks the fire starter, and tears through the gyms with them without bothering to level or catch others. this team is from shortly after bluefeather told her to stop playing the game like that so she started catching and using pokemon that she thinks are cool or funny as well. other honourable mentions are galarian meowth, makuhita, croagunk, darumaka, impidimp, and tyrunt)

bluefeather:

(bluefeather is the type of pokemon player who really enjoys team building and probably has a decent grasp on the competitive meta but also gets super emotionally attached to her pokemon and really just prefers to play with her favourites, which are more aligned to these.) (honourable mentions are luxio, dratini, and glaceon)

fogbloom:

(honourable mentions: timburr, roselia, swadloon, tangela, haunter, drifloon)

ravenpelt:

misc skuaclan fun facts that I feel should be public but can't be bothered waiting for asks to answer about or to come up in the comic:

skuaclan is set in a nonspecific part of scotland. it's a familiar ecosystem and location I know I understand and can enjoy fleshing out from there. yes my other wc ocs are also set in generic scotland for the same reason. yes I know that's lame. at least being on the beach makes it automatically cooler than canon wc (which usually has a pretty similar ecosystem besides a few random outliers, since it's originally based on england and the uk is not very large or environmentally diverse)

as a result, if any ill-fitting animals show up unavoidably in the plot, I will probably sub them out for more boring equivalents (coyotes to dogs, wolverines to badgers, etc) sorry

sunstar's original name was bluffstar (rerolled it bc i didn't feel it fit very well). berrystripe's original name was berrymask (rerolled it bc she already had a design and has no mask-like markings which i feel is a necessity for such a cool suffix)

besides doveclan and skuaclan, there are two other clans in the area- their names are owlclan and curlewclan, and they are led by toadstar and buzzardstar respectively.

you may have noticed that some of the cameo outsider cats are given names in the tags! the healer from moon 1 is called sparrowstep (she/her), the ghost from moon 11 is called rabbitpool (he/him), and the cat who attacks berrystripe in the moon 11 cont is called clovershade (she/they).

sometimes when I'm bored at work I like to sit around and imagine what skuaclan characters would be, do, or have in various themes and categories. these guys all have half-formed pokemon teams in my brain. maybe I'll make a spreadsheet of skuaclan character categorisations one day.

realise none of u know about the secret original skuaclan. when i first planned on doing a clangen blog and grabbed this url, i generated my first clan and started drawing a batch of characters, but had lost interest by the time i got back to it so generated some new ones and started over. in a timeline where i didn't get sidetracked these would be the guys. sorry i took pirate captain ripplestar and her pals away from yous all.

#reflecting on my og plans ripplestar turned into sunstar and berrystripe. emberbark turned into cinderplume and foxfern #nightfall got diluted into everyone except berrystripe. sleepyshade went to the void :(
