To me, what makes Spencer Reid as a character so interesting to watch is that he breaks the mould of both nerdy characters and crime show men by being one thing: emotional.

As someone who grew up watching crime shows such as NCIS, NCIS LA, CSI and Law and Order, I’ve seen my fair share of crime show men and they often all have the same characteristic of having a very limited emotional range in order for them to seem tough.

Nerdy characters also have this characteristic but for a different reason: quite often these characters are displayed as not having many emotions because they use logic over emotion.

Reid is both a crime show man and a nerdy character yet he is incredibly emotional. He will cry, he will storm out the room, he will laugh, he will look after his mum, he will get embarrassed, he will get angry and all these other things. And he’s not portrayed as any less than for it.

Whilst Hotch, Morgan, Alvez, Rossi etc. don’t always show the same emotional vulnerability as Reid and will quite often be portrayed as ‘tough guys’, they never once judge Reid for being emotional and they never treat him as less of a man or less intelligent for it.

This doesn’t mean they ignore it though, they don’t treat him as less than for it, but they do acknowledge it. They know that he needs a bit more comfort in sad moments. They know that he needs someone to check in on his apartment. They know to prompt him to open up about his feelings. They know he is easy to break and they acknowledge and understand that.

I just really love how Reid is portrayed because he has never been expected to act like a stereotypical action man, yet he’s seen as just as much of one as the other men on the team.

Man I’m rewatching CM for like 1000th time and someone on here said Maeve’s death was the most traumatic partner death like ??? Spencer knew her for 6 months and if I’m honest I saw more infatuation than being in love. HALEY will always be the worst partner death tk ever grace criminal minds followed very shortly by Caroline Rossi. Here is my list:

2. Caroline Rossi

3. Sarah (Gideons love interest)

4. Maeve

5. Krystal (I only put her last because I just feel like her death was glossed over a lot like there was no lead up which I’m assuming the actress didn’t want to return)

Also I’m putting Will as a possible 2nd/3rd place tie because we know Josh isn’t returning and I don’t know if they plan to kill hkm off or he and JJ divorce but considering we had the oh he might have cancer just kidding he doesn’t I’m guessing he’s going to die. Maybe not from cancer but I don’t see them having JJ and Will go through that emotional rollercoaster AGAIN just to have them divorce.

I like how the Major Books growing up for Millennials and Older Gen Z all basically taught some things:

Harry Potter taught us how to work within a System and prepare to face Evil despite all odds

Percy Jackson taught us that Toxic and Neglectful parenting is real and can't absolutely affect yourself and people around you

Hunger Games taught us how to observe and Recognise Oppression, to fight back and tear down a system if there's a need to

Divergent taught us that we are human, one does not simply display one form of Moral Trait, and also tear down a System.

Maze Runner taught us that Humans are not immortal, we can do many things but Death is always around us.But despite everything, Humanity as a whole will survive in some way, some form.

Narnia taught us that it's okay to let go of the past, it's okay to embrace your inner child, sometimes these memories stay in the past you may think it was all child's play but in the end you can deny the Joy you felt in the end.

The Lord of the Rings taught us that Self Sacrifice is sometimes important to bring forth fruitfulness, for the Journey impacts the Destination.

Normally, when I watch a deleted scene, I understand why they cut it - for time, or it didn’t fit with the story, or whatever the reason.

But I will not forgive them from cutting this scene (taken from YouTube) from Season 9, episode 14, 200.

Why would they cut this wonderful, absolutely astounding character development for Hotch??

“I already did”.

This should never have been deleted!! Protector dad Hotch forever.
