Found Sounds: Making Instruments From Trash from Great Big Story on Vimeo.
Ken Butler is a Brooklyn-based artist and musician who has built over 400 musical instruments. But these aren't just any custom-built instruments. Butler builds his pieces from discarded items he finds on the streets of New York City. Hockey sticks, tennis rackets, brooms, golf clubs, pieces of furniture, styrofoam, toothbrushes: all are fair game for his masterpieces. It's musique concrète ... jungle.

Extrapolate from johan rijpma on Vimeo.
In this hand drawn animation a line is being extrapolated through a grid. When the line surpasses the boundaries of the grid, the process spreads to and reflects on its surroundings. Beyond each boundary the extrapolation of movement is causing deformation in a systematic but speculative way.
This work was created with support from ”Animation Artist in Residence Tokyo 2016” part of the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan (Bunka-cho) ”Project to invite overseas creators of media arts 2016” and the Mondriaan Fund.

In this Visual Poem of Contentment, a young book lover tries desperately to get the book everyone else has. johnmervin.com/ SPOILER ALERT 2 years ago when I was 16, I had the idea of a story that visually portrayed the perspective of someone who has no vision, a blind girl. I found the ironic use of the visual medium (a short film) intriguing. So, all through Last year, I decided to practice the craft of filmmaking and create it myself. Modeled, animated, and rendered entirely in Blender. minor post production in After Effects and edited in Premiere.

Symphony Of Two Minds - 3D Animated Short - Dir. Valère Amirault from Mecanique Generale on Vimeo.
How do we choose to mix influences when dealing with a medium as new as CG animation ? From live action independent movies to Japanese anime, CG animation is still a new form of media trying to find its own style, to differentiate itself from traditional cartoon. This short is a playful attempt at bringing those influences together, from the point of view of the characters themselves. Trough their interrogations, we ask ourselves if there is a different path to the way we treat animation today.
This is a short movie directed by Valere Amirault and done by the people at Mecanique Generale.

Tergo from Charles Willcocks on Vimeo.
Tergo cleans. He cleans up after you and me. He picks up the mess we discard but yet remains invisible to all around him. Tergo’s a lost soul in the London urban machine. He’s ready to leave the life he leads behind. Tergo is the fifth short film from London film collective Pallas Pictures and their first to feature an entirely CG lead character. A labour of love and devotion by director and Pallas Pictures founder Charles Willcocks, it is the existential tale of a cleaning robot lost amongst the everyday drain of work in London. In a city of millions of strangers all living digital relationships, it’s a modern day fable for anybody who might be lonely and caught up in the rat race of life. Sometimes to work out what is beautiful about life it can only be solved by someone who exists to work.
