it must be so fucking funny to be a dungeon meshi anime only. imagine searching fanart of your favorite anime and every single time there is some fucking catgirl among the cast that's nowhere to be seen in the show. it's a medieval adventure setting why the hell is everyone putting a catgirl in there. but she's always there hanging out with the gang like shes always been there. real life Graggle Simpson

Day 25 Favorite Monster Girl. Nagas. Who knew they’d be so fun to draw? Especially with their colors. Also I really like doing the henna designs.

In order to deconstruct a thing, you need to know it intimately.
Dungeon Meshi works because the writer absolutely fucking loves dungeon crawling fantasy adventures, to the point that she ended her manga where she did so she would have more time to play Baldur's Gate.
You know why Puella Magi Madoka Magika is almost universally beloved, while the hundreds of 'gritty' magical girl stories that imitated it all flopped? Because the copycats just said 'lol what if being a magical girl sucked ass, huh?' and called it a day, while PMMM was made by and for people who fucking love mahou shoujo.
90% of people who claim they're deconstructing a thing don't know jack about shit. They see a rule and they assume it's a pointless thing that everybody else follows just because everybody else is stupid, so they break the rule and await the flood of accolades for their brilliant innovation. They don't know the history of the rule. They don't know why it was put in place, they don't know what things looked like before the rule or how things changed afterwards, they don't know what else has been built upon that foundation.
And the result is like the cybertruck, or the titan submersible. An "innovation" that simply undoes the past several decades of advancement, and which falls apart under the slightest scrutiny or challenge.
What is it about The Boys that makes it everything you do *not* want in a superhero story?
I do not, and I can't state this strongly enough, give a flying fuck what superheroes might be like in the """"real world"""". I do not care at all. I hate that premise. I despise it. I want it to be tortured and beheaded on a dark web livestream.
I don't want to see terrible stand ins for my childhood heroes turned into murderers and rapists and strawmen for whatever current day issues the writers don't understand this year. I don't want to see superheroes used to tell the same tired ass defeatist bullshit story that life is bad and people are awful and everyone is a piece of shit and there's no good or evil just shades of grey and blah blah blah blah
BORING!
BORING BORING!
BORING!!!!!
I want superheroes to fight super villains. I want good guys to be good and bad guys to be bad. I want hopeful stories of people being better than the narcissists and psychopaths we see on the news every day. I want heroes that exemplify the best of America and American values without narratively apologizing for shit that happened 100 years ago. I want superheroes to be role models again. I want a child to be able to pick up a comic and be told that the world isn't an awful place. That friendship and love is real and standing up for what's right is a reward in itself. I want superhero stories to kill jaded cynicism and embrace genuineness and optimism.

'wait until you need to work 40-60 hours a week'
bruh when I was in high school I was getting up at 6am and then not finishing my homework until 10pm most weekdays (16 hours x 5), then getting assigned a minimum of another ten hours of bullshit for the weekend. That's 90 hours a week. In order to have any hobbies at all, I had to train myself to operate on two hours of sleep a night which I'm sure was extremely healthy for my developing brain.
Now if my boss wants me to keep working after the 8-hour mark, they have to pay me time and a half. If I'm still there at the 12-hour mark I'm getting paid double. And when I clock out, I'm off the fucking clock, instead of having another whole day's worth of forms to fill out at home.
But the workload wasn't even the thing that made my want to skip out. That was the other students. And the authority figures who were willfully blind to anything done to the weird kids but cracked down instantly and severely on anything done by the weird kids.
adults are always talking about how “kids will do anything to get out of school” and okay, first of all that’s not true, but I think we really need to ask why that idea holds so much sway.
children’s brains are hard-wired to take in new information and acquire new skills. consider, for a moment, just how thoroughly our society had to fuck up the concept of education for it to be a normal thing to assume kids are universally desperate to avoid learning.

The point is that nobody is entirely right, but anybody (except for the Legion) is better than the current state of constant warfare and massive raider gangs everywhere, so you pick whoever you think is least objectionable (except for the Legion) or try your hand at taking over personally.
The NCR is mostly kinda decent people, but they overextended in their attempts at expansion, which leaves them underfunded and underpowered. If you leave them in charge, they'll impose fairly high taxes on the people of the mojave while providing fairly minimal protection from ordinary day-to-day bandits and raiders, but at least they'll hunt down the worst of the big gangs and provide an obstacle to invading armies. Final verdict: shitty, but considerably less shitty than most of the Fallout setting.
House is... better than the Legion, I guess? He has the capability to protect what he sees as his, and he isn't interested in mass slaughter, so if you're willing to be a subservient prole to a narcissistic tyrant you could have more stability than most places, but you're never gonna be considered anything other than a resource to be spent. Or, if you prove unprofitable, abandoned.
The Legion has absolutely no redeeming qualities. Even the morons who think that the widespread slavery and mass slaughter and extreme bigotry are worth it to protect you from the other raiders are wrong, because Caesar isn't gonna last for five years, and his successor is a complete moron who could never hold the territory together. If you leave them in charge they'll fragment into a few dozen warring tribes within a decade, and none of those warring tribes will retain the capability to grow their own food.
The fourth option is your self-insert... and this is where I think that the epilogue sequence of New Vegas gets really interesting, because if you beeline through the main quest and do nothing else before conquering the Dam solo, then the result you get is pretty fucking bleak. Better than the Legion, but worse than any of the others. But if you take your time exploring and do all the side quests you can find, and negotiate deals to unify most of the minor local factions under a common cause, then the result has the potential to be the most optimistic. So, a courier that doesn't care about anything other than taking power for the sake of power is a piss-poor ruler, but a Courier who gets to know the people of their domain and works to address all the major problems they can find turns out to be pretty decent... at least as long as they're alive to personally deal with things. No idea what happens after you die.

you know what we should do is make a new kind of screwdriver that's better than all the old kinds so everybody switches to the new one and you only have to deal with a single kind of screwdriver from here on out
there are too many types of screw drivers. let's scale it back, people.
