Theme Project 2 Proposal
For my second theme project, I want to do a continuation of the Covid idea. However, this time instead of making it about how people are suffering and how they are not doing the best, I wanted to make it about how people are becoming closer and making a stronger bond with one another. This idea fascinates me because although many keep posting to the public these times have been boring and lonely for others, these are times surrounded by family and love. I love this idea because this is something I have been facing where sometimes I don’t necessarily get out of the house, something is always happening inside of it. The people that make us whole are those we should capture and that’s what I am excited to show. A buildup of photos from Covid.

Week Eight: Lorraine Turci
French photographer Lorraine Turci tells powerful stories through her work. In the works above she went to Antarctica to shoot and captured these gems. The penguins being by the landmarks are absolutely gorgeous and quite interesting as it’s strange to see an animal of such sorts near a man made structure that looks as though it should not belong in that setting. The main photo, the waves crashing, is called The Wave and from my perspective it is almost as if it is the chaos in the calm. You see this deck perfectly in order and clean and then this massive chaotic wave comes in and hits that. The photo itself is also just gorgeous.

Week Seven: Mary Kocol
This piece shown above is called Ice Garden. The photos are expressing the loss of a loved one. She had taken these photos in memorial to her mother as her mother always enjoyed caring for her garden. One of the photos included, specifically the pink flowers shown in the jar were frozen in the jar in order to be able to give them to her since her mother was in the hospital. These photos just show the true beauty in nature and showcase her emotion towards her mothers passing. This one collection is absolutely stunning and I truly enjoy the emotion behind it. It kind of gives you this fake almost perfect aesthetic which is refreshing to see.

Week Six: Hozier
As many know the Irish Singer-Songwriter Hozier for his song Take me to Church, many don’t know the rest of his music. Since I did dance for 10 years I was exposed to many artists, him being one of my favorite. Hozier writes mainly about topics that are relevant and sometimes controversial in society but does in a sweet melody. As for today, the song I wish to mention is called Work Song. Work Song has a serious feel to it and in the beginning almost sounds as though people are in shackles. He is in a love so strong that this love is the only thing keeping him alive is seeing his lovers face once more. Even if he dies he says he will come back and see her. It is just a strong song and has a powerful sound to it.

Week Five: Dora Maar
Having been Picasso’s lover, she always lived in the shadow of someone else’s work. Here are just some photos that she had taken which almost seem to showcase this magnificent photo on its own but some sort of element hiding the person whether it be the star on one’s head or the spider web blocking one’s face. I enjoy these as it almost seems as though the “true beauty” is hidden by these other blinding moments of beauty.

Week Four: Ryszard Lenczewski
This week I have found and further looked into Ryszard Lenczewski. He is a polish cinematographer who uses photography as his version of “sketching” before he must do a huge film. These shots shown above were some of the inspiration from his film Ida. I enjoy looking at these photos because of the contrast and depth in them. In terms of what these shots will end up being used for and how the film will have this style of direction, there will be a dramatic presences as these seem to tell either a dark story or a reflection of ones own being.

Week three: Ritsuko Matsushito
The pictures shown above are taken from a collection of photos called I look up at the sky and set them off by Ritsuko Matsushito. These photos exhibit editing processes and techniques that remind me of a fairytale, one in particular, tangled. Because it invokes that feeling it gives me a sense of hope. The artist is from Japan and she enters many contests in which many of her works get picked just to be showcased. A lot of her work is based off of her Zen philosophy as she gets her inspiration from her Zen Philosophy and childhood picture books.

Week Two: Part Two Hometown Continued
Out of many of the photos from this collection I enjoy these the most as they give a sense of home and comfort. As dark as the first one is it gives a backyard feel and a hidden comfort from the rest of the world. The first photo is called Coker Arboretum and it is by artist Tama Hochbaum. As for the second, it is by artist Kimberly Strom and it is untitled. In each of these, comfort is brought as each of these photos are from someones definition of hometown. These are both so different and that’s what I enjoy most, one is dark and closed off, and the other is open and free.

Week One : Robert Adams
Pictures shown in an exhibition called “Our Lives and Our Children” showcase elements of normalcy in everyday life. It brings attention to the everyday people who make this world go around. The importance of this is to showcase ones outside life. It may not be as simple as black and white but that is what some assume it to be. The photos are in black and white and contain everyday people, a family at what seems to be a grocery store parking lot, a woman with her child, men walking around, and children biking. I enjoy this work very much so as it is so interesting to see the beauty in everyday activities. The titles of the works add so much to the overall meaning that one can perceive from it.

After being inside for so long I decided it was time for a change of scenery and ended up at Woodward park with a friend to study, snack, and get some fresh (well better) air

Throughout my weekend not much had happened as I had to take my mother to the ER but the little time I spent at home I was able to play with one of my dogs, Luna who is a 1 year old German Shepherd who loves to bug me the most when I’m busiest with homework. I was also able to facetime my best friend sierra and talk to her for a bit.
