batman villains are funny bc they all end up in arkham over and over so its just like
killer croc, painting a beautiful and sensitive portrait representing his inner turmoil: i had no idea (insert plant) was an invasive species in gotham
poison ivy, painting a photorealistic fern: they are! they’re so widespread that its almost impossible to contain, and it really hurts my heart
joker trying so fucking hard not to call them homophobic slurs because the therapist told him he’d get extra joker mush if he behaved for once in his fucking life:

yeah man you're right, all of these old ass books ARE like fanfiction. Dantes Inferno is on the same exact level as the fanfiction you write about Jimin having a self lubricating cloaca

claire’s 2020 movie opinions
first thing i thought i’d do was make a post on the movies of 2020 and my general opinions on them! i’m no professional and these are just my own personal opinions, nothing more :)
LEAST FAVORITE MOVIE:
Tumblr media
The New Mutants, dir. Josh Boone
what a disgrace, i was actually following this movie before it came out and i was beyond disappointed to learn that it was a gigantic mess - so going in, i wasn’t surprised with how bad it was. a complete slap to the face to any x-men fans, not only does it suffer from massive tonal issues but the whitewashing of roberto and the random racism of illyana’s character is... unneeded. i love both maisie williams and anya taylor-joy and yet they seemed super unhappy to be acting in this all throughout the film. just one big train wreck.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT:
Tumblr media
The Trial of the Chicago 7, dir. Aaron Sorkin
i by no means thought this was a bad movie. but i wanted a lot more from it. the acting is mostly good (in yahya’s case, fantastic! but in eddie’s case...) and the writing is great. but sorkin unfortunately can’t direct as well as he can write, also evident in molly’s game which i watched for the first time in 2020 (though that was far worse). this, paired with the... white saviory-ness of joseph gordon-levitt’s character, who had scenes made up for him in order to paint him in a better light, left me disappointed in a movie i thought would be a definite top 10.
BIGGEST SURPRISE:
Tumblr media
Palm Springs, dir. Max Barbakow
not my type of movie at all, but i liked it a lot! andy samberg, sometimes hit-and-miss for me, was fantastic and hilarious alongside cristin milioti. i loved the whole time loop shenanigans and the concept as a whole. very fun, lighthearted, and captivating.
MOST UNDERRATED:
Tumblr media
Underwater, dir. William Eubank
i’m simultaneously shocked and unsurprised this got low ratings from viewers, though personally, i had a ton of fun with this one and loved it a lot. firstly kristen stewart is amazing, and i’ll sit through any of t.j. miller’s annoying nonsense for her. the horror is... literally scary, and has you on the edge of your seat. and, i might be biased, but i love the underwater horrors and the lovecraftian inspiration it brings. what a satisfying ending too!
MOST OVERRATED:
Tumblr media
Happiest Season, dir. Clea DuVall
while i was happy to hear we were getting a sapphic holiday rom-com (especially with kristen stewart), i didn’t have the highest of expectations for it and unfortunately this met those low expectations. it was cute... but i’m way too sick of seeing the same old white lesbians on film, especially when they’re living in giant mansions and have zero chemistry like in this movie. i shouldn’t be rooting for kristen’s character to run away with aubrey plaza or escape with dan levy but... i was during this. i hope the next lgbt movie that gets this much media attention isn’t as pasty white as this was.
A GUILTY PLEASURE:
Tumblr media
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), dir. Cathy Yan
i can’t not mention this movie. dc started off on a roll in 2020 with this (...and then ruined it with ww84, but i won’t get into that) and i had an absolute blast with this movie. although not necessarily respected cinema, i feel that fun movies deserve just as much praise, and this was as much fun as a fun movie can be. as a dc fan i love what they did with this universe too - harley and the titular birds of prey are fantastic, cassandra and even roman are great. the only complaint i did have was what they did to zsasz, though that’s excusable. overall it captures the gotham atmosphere perfectly, and i’m thrilled for any more movies in this series.
SECOND PLACE:
Tumblr media
The Devil All The Time, dir. Antonio Campos
not the film for everyone but certainly one for me. i didn’t realize how much i love such long, drawn-out crime dramas with a southern twinge before, and this certainly embodies that. while tom holland and robert pattinson were good, the stand-out performances to me were sebastian stan and harry melling - the latter literally shocking me with his ability to act. the characterization and drama is great, and overall i had such a good time watching every event in this unravel.
FAVORITE MOVIE:
Tumblr media
I’m Thinking of Ending Things, dir. Charlie Kaufman
words can’t really describe how i feel about this movie. there were moments where i was confused, then in awe, then weirded out... and there were moments where i felt like i was absolutely suffocating. after reading the book i can only emphasize those feelings, as now, with the full scope of what this story is really about, i can understand every little detail and how intricate it all is. after finishing this movie i cried hard for nearly 20 minutes - something i’ve never really done after a movie in my life. although this is definitely not for everyone, as bizarre as it is, it hit me hard, and i can never let the way it affected me go.
