I just saw a tweet from Dan Denvir about the Columbia encampments and I kind of had an out-of-body experience… I will only ever be able to see his dumb ass in my mind’s eye as the guy who sucked as student body president in 2003 but every few years I unwillingly find out about new ways he sucks

It feels to me like we’re missing something so obvious, we must’ve forgotten about it.

The officers and crews consisting of 105 souls under the command of Captain F. R. M. Crozier landed here — in Lat. 69°37’42’’ Long. 98°41’
This paper was found by Lt. Irving under the cairn supposed to have been built by Sir James Ross in 1831 — 4 miles to the Northward — where it had been deposited by the late Commander Gore in May June 1847.

As a Barmaro shipper, I feel like if we joined forces we could probably accomplish something. There are literally dozens of us!
Being in the Barisi fandom is kind of a lonely experience because there are so few of us on Twitter, and Tumblr. Also, most of the moots I have on twt don't talk a lot about Barisi because, well, the ship has passed its prime.
I hate it here, we should work towards a revival of this ship like the one Barson shippers are promoting.

after several discussions that left me baffled, let me throw this out to the masses: do you look at ao3's icons when you're looking for a fic to read?

me: [baby] can you pick up that broom and lean it up against the wall? if we leave it on the floor like that I'm afraid somebody will trip on it.
baby: no. you can just take giant steps. (stepping back and forth over the broom) like dis.
me: yeah but I'm worried we won't see it before we trip over it. could you be the safety inspector, and say "this isn't safe!" and pick it up and show me where is a safe place to keep a broom?
baby, annoyed: no. I am a bad safety inspector. and I will put it away in a not safe place.

I hope there will come a day when the general population of the internet will understand the complex concept of "The fact that a woman sang a song does not necessarily mean that she is using the lyrics to report, with the greatest factual accuracy that her overly emotional little lady-brain can manage, real events that actually happened in her real life and to express her genuine deepest feelings about those events with perfect sincerity and a totally straight face." I realize that this will require a lot of people to learn difficult lessons like "Women can write things that are not autobiographical" and "Women can have a sense of humor" and "Women can understand and choose to follow or consciously subvert the genre conventions of an art form." I still hold out hope for that day, even though it is not this day.

It’s maddening to find out that the scholar who first developed the idea that “Zionism is Settler Colonialism”, Fayez Sayegh, was a member of the Syrian Nazi Party during and immediately after the Holocaust, was an active participant in the Red Scare, using it to demonize Israel as a manifestation of a Global Communist Threat™️ through the height of the Cold War (true to his Nazi roots, accusing Israel of Judeo-Bolshevism) before switching to a Colonialism narrative when Post-Colonialism came in vogue in the 60s. And yet, the people I hear parroting the talking points of this anti-Communist, Ultranationalist Fascist-turned-scholar are the people who are constantly talking about how Liberal Progressives aren’t Communist enough and actually enemies because “Liberals will always side with Fascists”. Maddening.
If you’ve ever noticed how the “Zionism = Settler Colonialism” narrative eerily shares the core components of the far right’s Replacement Theory (that there are 1. Jews 2. conspiring to invade a given place and 3. replace the population with Jews), this is why; it’s because the idea that Zionism is Settler Colonialism came from a literal Nazi.
It is very literally Nazi propaganda.
