𝐈𝐓’𝐒  𝐍𝐎𝐓  𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄  𝐇𝐄  𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑  𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓  𝐖𝐀𝐑  𝐖𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃  𝐁𝐄  𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐘.  There’s  a  certain  glamour,  though,  to  the  silver  screen  and  the  propaganda,  and  though  he  certainly  knew  it’d  be  rough  out  here,  the  reality  of  it  is  cold  and  harsh.  It’s  sitting  and  waiting,  it’s  fear  and  blood  and  dirt  and  sweat  and  the  desperate  camaraderie  of  those  around  you.  It’s  a  type  of  hell,  but  he  doesn’t  regret  one  minute  of  being  out  here  in  the  middle  of  it  all.

He  looks  up  as  she  comes  over;  he’s  got  a  pad  of  papers  skewed  crooked  in  his  lap,  and  it’s  late  evening.  The  stars  out  here  are  brilliant,  unmarred  by  city  lights.  It’d  be  pretty,  if  it  wasn’t  for  the  knowing  of  why  they’re  out  here;  at  least  this  camp  is  far  enough  outside  of  the  hot  zone  that  they’re  allowed  lights  and  fires,  but  the  light’s  getting  too  dim  for  him  to  draw  much  by  at  this  hour.  ❝  Oh  yeah?  ❞    A  little  smile  pulls  at  one  corner,  and  he  shifts  over  a  little  to  allow  her  room  to  sit  if  she’d  like.  ❝  Hope  it’s  good  things.  I’d  hate  to  be  a  bad  influence.  ❞

stressful week continues lol. I dislocated my knee for the umpteenth time and now have to wear a hinged knee brace and get X-rays and am being referred to orthopedics. and my kid’s illness continues. WHATEVER CURSE IS ON MY HOUSE STOP IT

Oh God. He could stand like this forever and never get sick of it. Bucky inhales Steve in like he’s the only air he can get oxygen out of and stays right where he is. Wild horses, like they say. “We can invite whoever we want to share it with. Don’t care how many people. But as long as it is a spot for just you and me? That’s all I care about. I want that moment for us and the people we care about. And I promise it right back.”

Hell. He’d marry Steve in a dumpster if he had to. Not complain even a little bit. The idea that they lived in a time where they can get married is just as mystifying as they are getting married. “Who would have thought…we’d ever get this chance? I woulda married you back then, too, you know? In a heartbeat. If I coulda.”

“You were my world then. You’re my world now. Nothing will ever change that.” And he grins at the press of lips against the tip of his nose. Blue eyes flick just up to meet Steve’s. Strange how he never gets used to or over that he has to look up to meet those eyes. “I love you..” He’ll never tire of saying it. Of hearing it back. “Right now, though? I could really go for a pizza. You baking it.. or am I?” Insert uneven grin here.

Their worlds have shifted so much and in so many different ways. Many have been tragic; they've been torn from each other in the worst ways, faced grief and death and fights beyond their reckoning. And yet —— somehow, through all of that? They've ended here, together, in a time where they can live comfortably and openly, where they can do things like get married and go on dates freely. 

Small favors for all the hell they've endured, he supposes. 

" I know. " And it's quiet and —— maybe a little heavy, maybe a little sad, maybe a little hopeful regardless. " I would have too. " He cracks a small little smile. " An' sometimes I still can't believe it. But here we are, and setting a date, so I'm just happy we do have this chance. "

And at that sentiment, both of love and pizza, he just leans in and gives him a sweet kiss and a little grin to match. " Love you too. And let's just order one, because if I try to make one I'll burn down the kitchen and I'm not willing to let you go long enough for you to bake it right now. " He's teasing. Sort've. " Besides, I got coupons for a free pizza from Don's. " ——— yes. Captain America uses coupons.
