Seoyeon thought for a moment, sincerely (which wasn't something she liked to do often), and it had really stumped her. The only person in her life, really, that she worked tirelessly to please was her mom, and her affections were as fickle as the weather. Some days she'd be her mother's sun and stars – other days she'd be her greatest shame and disappointment. So it's not like she was robbed of affection, quite the opposite. It was just... unpredictable. But that is a can of worms she's not willing to open. And with that thought in mind, she straightened up, and with a nonchalant smirk replied: "You're the winner of Select, and you will be your group's centre. From our Yuseong CEO, naturally."

The question itself has been absurd – an insinuation that she would need a sort of plan B in case this fails. It won't fail. "Well, nothing. Labour isn't suitable for me," Seoyeon chuckled as she quoted one of her favourite fictional characters, knowing well it might just go over the other's head, "besides, I've been preparing for this my entire life. There's nothing else, at all, that I'm interested in doing. Only a quitter prepares for failure before even trying. And besides – if I decide not to pursue this path some day, I'll make up my mind then. And whatever I decide to do then I'll dedicate myself to it one-hundred percent. Can't be doing things half ass. So if I ever get to that bridge, then I'll cross it."

"I don't think there's much I would change, if I'm being completely honest," Seoyeon replied rather quickly, then stopped to ponder. Face slightly scrunched, recently manicured finger tapping her chin in a much-rehearsed mannerism. And her answer wasn't wrong per se – she is ambitious and thus wants to keep getting better, and overall she would also like to change her socioeconomic status; but that's not really an indicator of her person-hood, really. After much deliberation, she concluded: "oh – my backbone. My self worth. I'm never going to be the type to deprecate myself in order to uplift someone else. That's just pathetic."

"Ohh, there's so much. Really, so much!" Seoyeon exclaimed, shaking her head. Bringing her hand up, she begins to list off activities: "if it's sunny outside, I like to have yogourt on the riverside with my friends. If it's raining, I want to stay at home and play on my Nintendo. If I somehow have spare pocket money then that's a whole other story; I will be doing my nails, my hair, going shopping – you know, the whole nine yards. And then getting drinks! I really, really like Sex On The Beach, even though the name is kind of... well, cringe. It's super sweet."

( 5 ) Who is your inspiration?

Seoyeon truly is a fan of any and all female pop idols – whether they're idols in the true definition of the word ( kpop or jpop idols ) or they're simply popular and successful women within mainstream music. She idolizes the hell out of anyone who's her current subject of affection, and has always dreamed of being on the same level as her stars. She doesn't exactly know subtly or boundaries, so to her, if she likes someone they might as well be a demigod. Within the world of our rp, Seoyeon would be inspired greatly by Ladybug and Etoile, as well as Lili. Outside our canon, she'd be a Hyuna and Sunmi stan for sure (and Chungha, but I kind of model her after Chungha's skills and style overall soooo). I can also definitely see her as being really into AKB48 back in the day and overall really into female-led jrock such as Tommy heavenly. tl;dr she is inspired by women in (mostly) mainstream music and idolizes them to no avail and so wants to be just like them one day!!

( 6 ) What has the most influence on your style (music, fashion, makeup, etc)?

First and foremost, Seoyeon has always been her mother's mini me. I wrote her biography with the thought that her mother is somewhat of a covert narcissist, and she pretty much raised Seoyeon to be the ideal girl in her personal taste. So, coming from that in mind, a lot of what Seoyeon likes and enjoys originally came from her mom – the clothes she dressed her in, the music she played to her, the makeup she taught her to apply. Naturally as she grew older, Seoyeon developed her own tastes, albeit they are still adjacent to what her mom likes – just less so conservative and more modern. A huge inspiration for her would definitely have to be her favourite fictional characters in anime, such as Michiru Kaiou/Sailor Neptune (Sailor Moon) and Yumemi Yumemite (Kakegurui), whom are very much feminine, put-together, and 'high maintenance'. Her getting into jpop definitely helped her branch out into more styles, as well. You could somewhat say that she just grew up drawing inspiration from very feminine 'pretty girls' fictional characters and real life women (specifically musicians).

Breathe in, breathe out. You’ve done this so many time already. Performances at school, at church, evaluations at Yuseong, auditioning for this goddamn show. It’s old news. Done before. You’ve got this. 

“Are you ready to start, Seoyeon?” 

Right. Let’s do it. Sooner we start, sooner we finish. “Yes, I am!”

The camera begins rolling, right as the executive producer signals Seoyeon. Clutched in her arms is a plush toy – oversized heart, bright red and velvety – and she waits a moment before popping her head sideways, revealing her face to the camera. She dons a faux surprised look, then breaks into a bright smile. 

“Ready or not, here come –– I am Bae Seoyeon!” exclaiming, she steps towards the camera, “will you accept my love?”

Playfully, albeit with somewhat shaky hands, Seoyeon tosses aside the toy, revealing her outfit. Hearts abound, she is covered in the symbols, having spent hours upon hours planning this very ensemble. God, she hopes people like it; after all, you can only have your first impression once. Not a moment later, she pretend-shoots the audience with an arrow, and the music begins.

First come the horns of the pre-chorus, minimalist, and she gets into position for the choreography. Heart Attack by Dandelion’s Sungah. Certainly not anything majorly showcasing her skills, but Seoyeon figured it would be a charming choice for her introduction. And then comes the chorus. 

“Pounding more and more I’ll give it all, take my heart~” she begins to sing, following the dance routine with her own little flair, “surely you’re my destiny, it shines fully in my heart!” 

And after that, everything else becomes invisible. Even the irritating coordinator that she overheard gossiping about the contestants earlier in the waiting room, even the manager from Yuseong who was late and didn’t even apologize. Nothing mattered, just this. It was what she was good at. No, excellent even.

“This must be what thrill feels like, darling! Eventually I fall into you –” preparing for her little finale, Seoyeon pretends to dig into her skirt’s heart-shaped pockets, then belts out the very last sentence: “you attack my heart!”

And with that, she pulls out a bunch of confetti, scattering all around her. Some stick to her palm, sweaty, but she doesn’t notice. Grinning from ear to ear, she bows as though she finished a theatre performance, flamboyant. The annoying coordinator rolls her eyes from the corner of her sight. 

“Hope you liked my performance today, my darlings! I am Yuseong Entertainment’s Bae Seoyeon – here to make your heart flutter with excitement. Please support me on this amazing journey to becoming an idol that brings joy to many, many people. And meanwhile I will do anything I can to win you over with my charms and talent. I love you!” 

A last display of finger hearts at the rolling cameras, and it’s done. It really is done. Bowing properly this time, Seoyeon thanks the staff, and leaves the room. Finally able to breathe.

☆ – howdy, partners! it's ya girl vedma again, this time introducing BAE SEOYEON – yuseong trainee and select! girls contestant. she is (almost) 20 years old, a lifelong singer and dancer, and she did not come to play – she came to win! the competition, that is, but also hearts. Below you'll find a summarized version of her bio, as well as all the usual links!! TW for mentions of emotional abuse on the hand of Seoyeon's mother (point 4). However, it is brief! The biography is slightly more detailed, but it is entirely contained in the 3rd section. Hope this helps~

Seoyeon was born in Vancouver, Canada, but pretty much right after that her mother moved to Korea. To briefly put it, the reason was due to the mom being an adoptee to parents she didn't love and felt unloved by, and the fact that the good for nothing bio dad ditched her when she got pregnant. She was a senior in high-school at conception, and freshly graduated at time of Seoyeon's birth.

The mother-daughter duo were dirt poor for many years to come (and still are to this day, to some degree) but Seoyeon's mom put everything she had into making her daughter a star. Always finding ways to squeeze her daughter into classes, groups, teams etc that would develop her singing and dancing skills for free or cheap.

Seoyeon was the ultimate star in her eyes. She'd wanted to be special all her life too and in ways, begun to live vicariously through her daughter. Seoyeon became her way to get validation from others as well as her being her mom's only source of emotional support.

( TW ) Except, when Seoyeon didn't meet her standards or acted in ways that she didn't like, she would deny her of love, affection, and care. But when she did as she was told, she would get showered with praise and love and be told she's quite literally perfect. Her mom made Seoyeon an extension of herself and somewhat of her little doll. 

Years go by, and Seoyeon gets better and better. She's used to bring criticized and having to work extremely hard for praise. And she knows she's good at doing just that – exceeding expectations. She’s highly competitive and settles for nothing less than greatness – and as mother says, those who don’t see it that way simply aren’t looking right.

The video of her at her school performance went viral by sheer luck, but Seoyeon took the opportunity and ran with it. She's incredibly driven and will stop at nothing to be a star. Partially for herself, partially for her mom.

Overall, she's a mixed bag of characteristics. She's cocky and sometimes overly confident, but she's also desperate for validation. Spending so much time alone working on her talents made her in some ways a recluse and socially inept, but when she wants to turn on her charm she can be captivating and convincing (a skill she learned to survive at home, really). I can see her stirring shit but also never shying away from finishing an argument. And for the first time ever she's really far away from her mother – she's been somewhat a notorious flirt back in school, but now... well, far away from watchful eyes, right? tl;dr is that she is an unpredictable person, which means we can go with many plots!! rivals? friends? anything in between ?? u got it!
