Something I have pondered is how Sandor would interact with/fall for a red priestess from Volantis or something… Ignoring logistics and why she is needed at the Red Keep in the first place (think small council member for whatever reason), I’m sure she would interact with Sandor quite a bit. The books note that some priests from the Temple of the Lord of Light (Benerro) have burn marks all over their faces and I can imagine many others have similar scars as well, working with fire and such. So when the red priestess ends up in the Red Keep she’s not turned off by Sandor’s scar but is quite used to scars like his and he just does not understand why she’s treating him so normally LOL. And their interactions with fire and what not… I wonder if he would try to steer clear of her completely or try to warm himself up to her (pun intended) assuming she was interested in him. Like what you said in your last post about not fulfilling some childhood fantasy but accepting him as he is now… scratches head (can you tell ive thought about this a lot? haha)
That is certainly an interesting dynamic. We know Sandor doesn't think highly of religious people, so I suspect that - unless she is the one initiating - he'll try and stay clear of her. It would be reasonable for her to find burn marks attractive, like viewing it as being touched by R'hllor himself or at least burn marks being an attractive feature in her culture and beliefs.
I refuse to ignore logistics; they are a mere challenge we take on head-on!
Tumblr media
I recommend caution in putting her on the small council. Having a female foreigner of a rival religion to the major religion of Westeros would be unlikely and cause major disapproval from the Faith and most lordlings. Especially if she is present at the start of the series. I don't think anyone in the small council would approve of such an appointment. Jon Arryn wouldn't be pushing it, and he basically ruled Westeros for Robert.
Thoros was sent to convert the Mad King due to his affinity for fire, but he failed and didn't show progress with Robert Baratheon. She could have been sent to do what Thoros failed to do since Robert is famous for his affinity for women. There could be multiple reasons why she would find interest in Sandor. Perhaps she feels like he is crucial to the Red God since people do not usually survive such a burn and could interpret that as a sign. She'd not be the first Red Priest/-ess who when commando if they believed R'hllor was urging them to. She could grow to believe that he might be Azor Ahai and depending on how much of a believer she is, she could be honored at the prospect of filling the shoes of Nissa Nissa.
Just the overall notion of having Sandor be the one courted is rather nice. Like he deserves to be the one charmed and seduced 💅 He'd also potentially be together with a personification of his fear.
Regardless of what you conjure up, you have endless possibilities with an OC like that. 🤗

You wrote about Sandor asking Sera for a song when they were in the garden; from your research, did men ask ladies to sing to them? Where did you get this idea from? It’s very sweet :) a beautiful addition to the story that I think about a lot
Hi, thanks for your question, and I'm glad you liked it! ✨
Songs are a common theme in A Song of Ice and Fire. Lyanna Stark, for example, was said to have cried when Rhaegar played the Jenny of Oldstone on his harp during a feast. In more recent canon, Sandor often mocks Sansa in the canon material and asks her to sing for him. It's part of his famous interaction with her after the Battle of Blackwater. I always chalked this up to being part of his childhood fantasy of the knight and the lady. Sandor almost seems to have a masochistic handling of his shattered dreams, where he rubs it in Sansa's face as proof that dreams are nothing but a waste of time. I wanted to keep that dynamic with Sansa intact but modified since Sera's presence changes some things around.
I didn't want Sera to act as wishfulfillment for Sandor. She isn't a lady. She is a bastard. She can't sing, but she could if he really wants to. Sera's function wasn't to entertain the notion of what could have been if he hadn't been burnt. Her function in that exchange is that she is something else, perhaps more real and better than a fantasy nurtured in his youth.

Hello, I hope you are doing well!!
I found “Our Voyage Home” the other day and have absolutely burned through it. I actually just finished the last posted chapter from April! I was wondering if you plan on continuing? I am head over heels for your writing and am about to dive headfirst into all of your works, on ao3 and tumblr both, but have grown to adore Sera and her story. PLEASE continue writing it- it’s probably one of the best ASOIAF fics Ive ever read (I’ve easily read a hundred or more, unsure on how many though)!!!! You write the Hound so freaking well and your OCs are absolutely top tier. Your writing in general is gorgeous but I could go on and on about how amazing the series is so far. Again, please please PLEASE continue it!! You’re amazing!
Thank you! ✨I am delighted you've liked the story so far. It is my intent and goal to finish the story. There is madness, twists and turns ahead. I just need to fucking write 'em. I am in a long-drawn funk, but I ain't abandoning that series until the end, maybe if the apocalypse happened and probably if I ended up dying.

Hello! I was reading your AO3 series The Hound and the Little Thief and it’s sooo well written.
I only have a question. Why did the Hound become Interested in Sera so quickly? Is it because she was able to talk to him, and even scold him without fear? I caught the attraction part.
I have been prepared for this question for years. Finally...
Tumblr media
You asked and I will ramble on about this for a while... so there are some pivotal scenes for these.
First is when Sera asks for the Hound to escort her out into the Wolfswood to pray. The Hound picks up the conversation expecting her to cut the conversation short. Sera asks a follow-up question, and that part is more unique for the Hound. Not groundbreaking, but enough for him to register it mentally. When he asks if she wants an apology she in turn asks him if he would mean it. Another moment he registers. When she is horrified that he wants to kill his brother and challenges the notion somewhat, which is understandable, the Hound ridicules her. Sera politely disagrees with his ridicule and rides off.
The first thing the Hound does is compliment her when they arrive at their destination. A skill he puts some value in. He tests her and she begins to order him as he is used to which isn't attractive to him. This however is overshadowed by the fact that when he falls asleep she drapes her cloak over him. Which is a nod to the marriage traditions of Westeros. It's a really kind act.
Apart from appearance, Sandor Clegane is more common to what Sera deals with than vice versa. Rose, a girl who had been his first love is bitterly remembered as only earning it by smiling to him. This is to cement the point that Sandor will notice someone paying attention to him. Sure, Sera is attractive in her own way, but she isn't lauded as this great beauty. He usually then quickly finds fault and doesn't bother to find redemption for them. He could have easily done that with Sera too, if it wasn't for the journey on the Kingsroad and the fate of Shadow and Mycah.
The second important scene is killing her direwolf to keep Sansa's wolf safe. It makes Sera unforgettable and as Sandor puts it 'a bother'. Gregor burned him because he was playing with a wooden toy that his brother wasn't even that interested in. Sera on the other hand:
Clegane appeared beside her, pointing to a spot amongst the black fur. ”There. Push it in. Push it hard, push it quick,” he said but when Sera raised the dagger all she could do was tremble. ”If you can’t do it, why offer it up?”
A chuckle, pained and dry left her as she finally met the man in the eye, not that she could see much, her gaze clouded by tears and still, the woman smiled. ”I’m her sister.”
She did this so Sansa wouldn't feel pain. The entire opposite of Gregor. He knows bastards aren't as shielded, that she isn't as naive as a trueborn daughter of a High Lord would be.
There are other things. She is passionate about learning stuff and a nerd a la medieval times. She is attracted and interested in him which is not unheard of but not overly common. Nuanced and, at times, wise. I tried to always keep in mind that I didn't want her to become the archetype 'not like other girls'. Partly because this archetype is filled by Arya and partly because it can have harmful implications. With Arya's arc that works but not with the one planned for Sera. Also, because she is a character with extremely low self-worth, that doesn't pair well with encouraging the 'not like other girls'-notion. Sandor does try to make her this, but she shuts it down. She doesn't want to be better than, she just wants to feel good enough.
God I want to continue the series but my free time is really in morsels. Inflation be inflating, time be timing, so why the fuck isn't this writer writing?! Fuck. I mean life is good, can't complain but all I can manage is goofy writing with one layer. Like I had this request for Sandor fluff and all I could think about was if the reader transported from our world into that of ASOIAF and turned into either one of Dany's dragons or one of Tommen's cats. THAT'S THE LEVEL PEOPLE.
✨Quality content ✨
... I suppose this post has derailed.
Like I have all this cool shit planned for the series. At least my interactive fic with the ASOIAF universe was scrapped. A dream gone but I ain't fighting lawyers. Look at all this rambling, they'd get me to admit to anything. This is why I can't do crime. I'd snitch on myself. Another kinktober gone and I still haven't finished last year's! Btw, Hippopotamus teeth?! I don't understand them.

What do you think Sandor’s relationship with Joffrey is? Seems like they were close until Joffrey started abusing Sansa.
It depends on the POV.
Joffrey's POV
The Hound is feared. Not a fear brought on by title or from the past like the once great Demon of the Trident. No, Sandor Clegane brings about a fear that is embedded in the nature of every man, woman, and child. Everything from his height to his strength to his gruesome scar and to the deep and raspy voice that puts everyone on edge. Joffrey is Crown Prince but, try as he might not, he is still a child in many eyes. Deep down he knows that it is his title as Crown Prince that makes him feared.
Joffrey also enjoys the fact that he is not afraid of the Hound. This great fearsome man serves him and heeds his every command. The boy is also primed to seek the approval of an elder since he gets none from his own father. This approval-seeking and the cause for it is mostly subconscious.
Sandor's POV
There's a sweetness to serving the Crown Prince. Well, apart from the gold. Gregor might serve a High Lord, acquired Clegane's Keep and the title of Ser, but he's not guarding the future King of the Seven Kingdoms. Besides, the boy isn't hard to manage. Joff hates – like most children do – the fact that he's a child. So Sandor doesn't overly cuddle him and treats him with enough formality to not be outright defiant. Most of Joff's previous cruelty was something he chucked up to being a bored boy with the power of a prince to avoid consequences. He served Tywin before him and his mother, and the Lord of Casterly Rock isn't exactly known for his kindness...
Sandor understands his lot as the fearsome beast. There is some respect in the fact that Joff doesn't fear him. Sandor doesn't subconsciously seek a son in the boy and is more aware of the unsaid rules than Joff is. So whilst Sandor has a more transactional view on their relationship, he still enjoys it. He knows Joff is more consistent than people give him credit for and if he serves the boy well he'll be treated accordingly. Sometimes this scene in the books:
Tumblr media
is read as Sandor Clegane enjoying some discipline handed out, but I think that conclusion is a bit too simplistic. Remember that Sandor hates Tyrion. He tells Tyrion that Joffrey will remember being hit. It's just as much a threat as it is a warning. If Joffrey confronted him about it, Sandor's excuse could have been that his hands were tied since the man who struck him was his mother's brother. In the books, Joffrey points out that the Hound is his mother's dog, not his. That dynamic is something Sandor Clegane must always keep in mind. Sandor understands and uses the language of a bully. Heck, he's also cruel to Sansa Stark. He mocks her but doesn't strike her. Then again this cruelty is due to Sansa not conforming to what she needs to be. There's this great Reddit post about "Don't rock the boat". Joffrey is a boat-rocker and Sandor Clegane is an expert in steading it, unlike Sansa who stands there confused about why the boat is rocking.
But hey, that's just my take. No more valid than anyone else's. Pardon any spelling or grammar mistakes ^

Sandor with a s/o who loves to draw/sketch/paint him? It can be hcs or a drabble or anything really.
Book!Sandor please. He’s so ugly I love him. ☹️❤️‍🩹
Tumblr media
Praise be, praise be. Ugly is hot. Now this is a miracle, but I'll not waste a thousand words haggling over the fact that the features he's described to have are actually those which I consider attractive BUT this is not a complete miracle and I will instead ramble on about the issue of painting/drawing/sketching.
We don't see it much in ASOIAF. The artistry mentioned is often mummery, embroidery/needling, sculptures, and tapestries. (Although some armors seem to be quite the works of art, I am looking at you Ser Loras Tyrell).
Now, I am not claiming that this activity doesn't exist but I will be using our own history as a reference. Painting and even drawing/sketching were expensive back in the day (especially painting). Parchment isn't cheap. We don't really see nobles or the Faith acting as patrons for any type of painter. The only thing I can think of is shield-painters. So for the sake of ease, I am making this SO a member of nobility.
Headcanon
Every artist has their goal. To capture beauty, spark creativity, make a mark, or simply suck a little less.
It's a cliché to moan about not being understood, so you try to not moan too much when those around you don't understand. You smile, a knowing smile, often pared with a light nod. The "please-stop-and-please-do-not-make-me-ask-you-to"-nod. You've mastered it.
The thing is... a face is a face. Sure, the features change a bit but the principle remains the same. It's one of the things you never say out loud. How boring drawing can make the world. You study it, sure, but you study to capture not to admire. That can come later. Only if later ever came.
Every person has their own impossible. Some feat, some dream, something out of reach. Yours walked around the halls of the Red Keep.
Sandor Clegane was incredible. His face was incredible.
Plenty of people came to you for a portrait. Not him. One of the guards had asked you to draw him without the scar, curious how the man would look unburnt but it was one of the few portraits you refused. You never told Clegane, of course. The thought of that made you shutter. The guard would have stopped his howls long before Clegane stopped his fist from meeting the poor sod's face.
The solution was simple. You never asked for permission.
Tumblr media
It wasn't a perfect likeness. You forgave yourself for that. After all, you had only managed to study him in passing but even the unburnt side of his face was difficult to do justice. He was more rugged. Harsher. Sader. You couldn't draw the burnt side. It was too intimate and you couldn't shake the sense that you wanted to do it justice.
So you continued. It became your secret. The ever-growing bundle of drawings of the Hound. Whenever you passed him in the hall your heartbeat soared, what if he could tell? What if he could sense that you carried him around? Glimpses set on parchment.
He was handsome. Fine, ugly by most people's count, but he was. No one else had a face you could study endlessly and never tire, but he did.
One evening you set out, it wasn't even to find him. Princess Myrcella wanted you to draw one of the birds in the garden for her little brother. The bundle of Hound-drawings just came with. They had grown into a source of comfort and shame. What if some servant found them? What if he was told? You'd die. If not by his hand, your own heart would just die right there on the spot.
Clegane shouldn't even have been there. The garden wasn't for him.
The collision was brutal... well, brutal for you. It didn't as much as budge him. Clegane remained a tower of darkened steel and you became a mess of cloth, parchment, powdered coal and a broken brush.
As you gathered the drawings you felt his gaze burning into your neck. Was it too late to tattle on the guard who wanted him drawn unburnt? Better him than you.
Clegane said something. You didn't hear, not while you talked over him and past him. You couldn't even retell what was said, you just talked and talked while you fled like a scorched rat.
Dorne? Sothoryos? Perhaps you could board a ship sailing toward the Jade Sea? Forsake your name and house and simply disappear. Yes, a sound plan. A fine plan.
Clegane didn't find you right away. Two days passed before he caught you in the hall, heading towards the Princess to deliver her drawing. There was no question, just a command: "Talk." You'd never been so quiet and so he shook you and repeated the command. "I was bored," you said, "and you're difficult to draw, interesting to draw. I haven't shown them to anyone... you could have them if you like or I'll destroy them if that's any better."
Clegane said nothing. He just released you and once again you scurried away like a scorched rat.
By nightfall a knock filled your bedchamber. Before you even opened the door, the stench of wine and ale seeped through the cracks.
Clegane didn't say a word as he stormed inside. You didn't even manage to tell yourself a prayer that it was drink that reddened his face. Rage, hot and black, filled his grey eyes. "That the lot of you do? Pissing yourself with fear before me and snicker behind my back," he spat, "interesting." "You are interesting," you answered meekly.
The chair let out a crack as his body slammed down upon it. The laughter thick in his throat. "Draw then. Go on, if it's any good I might let you live."
So you drew him. Clegane never told you if he thought the drawing any good, but surviving that night was answer enough.
Strangely enough, you hoped he'd come again. You'd take more time, allow yourself to admire him. Just for a moment.

Hi! I love your writing so much!
This question may be silly, but I was wondering if you think Sandor often feels lonely? Of course his scar alienates him quite a bit, and he doesn’t seem shy to mention that he’s a fierce man that loves killing. He seems very hostile and antisocial, but in the books it also seems like he’s often seeking out Sansa. Even if it’s to antagonize her, it looks like he feels the need to seek someone out and talk to them. He also talks a lot more than the show version, not exclusively to Sansa either.
Varys mentions that he gambles and goes to winesinks too. You’re always going to be in the company of others if you go to places like that, right? At the same time, he doesn’t seem to have any friends. What do you think? Is he lonely and trying to make connections in his own way, or does he not care to? Do you think it could be somewhere in the middle or something else entirely?
My assumption is that maybe he thinks it’s not a possibility for him. At the same time, he can be reasonably social, like at Joffrey’s nameday celebration. I was curious to know what you think!
So to figure this out we need to delve into his entire mindset. Sandor's worldview is simple and not entirely unfounded and he holds it as truth. It's a point of pride for him, that he can see the world around him for what it truly is. It isn't what the mummers sing of. It isn't a place of legends and gallant knights, it is ugly and horrid. Violence is needed, it doesn't matter if it's right or wrong, it gets the job done and most men enjoy it. Some may scrounge their nose at spilling blood, but they still enjoy the bounty it brings. By Joffrey favoring him, he is also afforded the luxury of not adhering to all the norms while still being at court where everyone else tries their utmost to keep to them. So not only does he get to enjoy Lannister gold, but gets to bother some lordlings. He's seldom alone. Tyrion points out that the Hound rarely leaves Joffrey's side. It's why he goes to Varys who says he goes to winesinks, tumbles dice, and visits brothels.
He's not antisocial like his brother but he's no social butterfly either. Feared by most yet his martial skills surely would earn him a great deal of respect. At least from those of lower standing. Before the Starks, Sandor was content at being a thistle amongst roses at court. Meeting them cast his semblance of a life into a downfall.
Tumblr media
Sandor is cruel, sure, but never senselessly like Gregor. He knows that. His demeanor, harsh and spiteful, isn't something that attracts people to befriend him and I think that is by design. Many in Westeros have gotten themselves a meeting with the Stranger from loving or caring for the wrong person. He was already betrayed by his brother and father, so he might be inclined to not seek out and try his luck again.
Yet the Starks burrowed themselves into him by triggering him. Not just Sansa. The entire brood. He came from a shit family, served a shit family and suddenly there's this family that lives in a fairytale world of honor and duty. I'd also wager he'd smell their incompetence in King's Landing politics a league away.
Tumblr media
Sansa clearly annoys him the most. He mocks her for her beliefs. He offers guidance. He sexualizes her. Nothing really latches on. Because his interactions with Sansa aren't about her, it's about him. His worldview fits a maze. Walk down a certain path and you'll land with a certain outcome. Sansa is walking along a similar path as him, yet what if she doesn't see the world as him after everything that has happened? What if she doesn't adapt the same way he did? Not entirely unlikely, after all, a little bird isn't bound to the path of a maze. The first interactions with her were warning her of the path ahead, then they try to nudge her in some direction he views better. He offers shortcuts in an attempt for her to skip some of the more painful parts he knows are around the bend. All the while, he doesn't see that what he really doesn't want is for her to fly up and find an outlook he never did. That's why, I don't think his interactions with her are about sating his loneliness. It's to embolden it. Justify it.
When Joffrey offers him the Kingsguard position Sandor agrees and points out that he doesn't have a woman to leave behind. I, however, think it's a deeper loneliness that isn't solved by finding someone to warm his bed at night. If he truly was that desperate he could have plucked a willing woman from Flea Bottom. It's a loneliness that has been with him since birth, denied the love of a brother and the protection of a father, denied a future he could have had.
Sandor savors that he can "see the world for what it's truly like" yet is mostly passive in it. A tool for that fucked up world to use and has allowed himself to be only that. Well, mostly. The few times he acts of his own will he helps someone. When he tells Sansa at Blackwater that he'd lost everything, he's not necessarily lying, but in that everything he was nothing.
Tumblr media
We can see this better in the books. His brokenness. He was captured when he was found sleeping off a drunk. When building the palisade he's paid in drink. When he stomps into the Crossroads Inn? It's in search of wine. It's much more clear that he's a traumatized man who hardened himself to survive, but by doing so became brittle and had no glue to keep him together apart from drink and simple pleasures.

Seoness, you have such lovely characterization and insight on the hound! 😋
I read your childhood sweetheart hc and I wanted to ask how the dynamic would change if she were betrothed to Sandor (for whatever reason) instead of already being married?
Thank you!
So, first, let us find the reason for a betrothal to the Hound. Why would anyone be promised to Sandor Clegane? We'll need to make a couple of assumptions about his parents based from what we know.
The Non-Father
Sandor's father inherited the keep from his father, who became knighted after saving his lord from a lioness. He set on training his sons into becoming fierce warriors and he was successful. Training someone is no small task and this man trained, not one, but two of the most fearsome swordsmen in all of Westeros. It wouldn't surprise me if the first landed knight of Clegane Keep trained his heir the very same Sandor and Gregor would one day be trained. He would have seen the distinct reward of serving a lordling well from his own father (Sandor and Gregor's grandfather). We know very little of Sandor's mother. The only thing we can gleam is, if the sons inherited their parents intellect, one of them was thickheaded as an auroch and the other considerably more sharp.
A tad victim blaming & who's his mother?
I tend to believe that was this mysterious mother. Mainly because we know Sandor's father lied to protect his eldest son and that he died on a hunting trip with the very son he lied protect.
Who could have seen that outcome... a boy that tried to kill his younger brother would be rather partial for a patricide... -_-
So I always assume that Sandor's brainpower came from his mother rather than his father. If a possibility had presented itself to separate the two, then I don't see why she'd not leap at the opportunity. Now let us put on the thinking hat of Sandor's mother. First problem, any contender would first be considered for Gregor not Sandor. Gregor is the firstborn son and the heir to Clegane Keep. Sandor has no claim, is of low birth, is scarred, and is currently high on hatred for his older brother and from a rather poor house. Not exactly a catch in the Westerosi courting game.
Contendor
His match, however, needs to be somewhat of a catch but not enough to warrant her to be betrothed to Gregor. This is the largest crux. Why isn't she promised to Gregor? What keeps her from avoiding that horrid fate? So guys, gals and non-binary pals I say to you, the age old wisdom of real estate agents:
Location.
Location.
Location!
If this childhood sweetheart came from somewhere else and needed to return (but could still offer the Clegane status and gold), then there's a possibility for a betrothal.
I give to you, the Iron Bank of Bravos. No, Sandor isn't about to be betrothed to an institution. The bank's lore is that sixteen men and seven women founded it and their descendants are known as key-holders. One of them is to be promised to the Hound. Her birth could be stronger than the Clegane brothers and the insistence on returning to Braavos would deter Sandor's father from picking his heir and instead picking his youngest son to be taken away across the Narrow Sea.
Conclusion
So why build all this up? Ramble about this? It's because if Sandor was betrothed at such an early age, he'd not be the man we find in the pages of A Song of Ice and Fire and he would certainly not be the man on screen in Game of Thrones.
This life would look so different that the possibilities are endless. He'd still be a sworn sword, not to Joffrey, but to his wife. I don't see him becoming some great orator, but his hatred for his brother wouldn't burn as fierce and he'd speak on other matters more. The hatred would still be there, but tempered. Not because being wed magically whisked it all away, but it keeps him from having his attention too focused on the past since he's forging a future with someone.
Now was this the answer to your question?
Tumblr media
I dunno.
I be rambling and ya'll keep reading.

Whenever I think of a modern AU Sandor, I imagine it as being like…the 90s or early 2000s. I really can’t imagine him on an iPhone…or scrolling on Twitter or something.
I can see basically all of the ASOIAF characters in our modern age. Maybe not everyone on glorious Tumblr...
Tumblr media
Catelyn Stark's social media would only be about her children whilst Eddard Stark's profile pic isn't updated until his wife forces the matter. Sansa posts inspirational quotes and listens to Taylor Swift on blast. She'd be following the drama on Arianna Grande like a hawk.
Cersei would be an almond mom. Robert Baratheon doesn't even change into another account before leaving comments on women's bikini pics. Those comments mostly consist of emojis like 🔥🔥🔥🍆💦.
The Lannister have a name in finance, the Starks would be construction and landlords, the Greyjoy fishing and oil rigs, Martells would be major players in the art world and club scene, and the Arryns would be big in the judicial world.
Sandor Clegane has either a smartphone with the apps that came with the phone or an older version of a cellphone with buttons (people still use those). If he has the older one, he secretly has an amazing high score on one of the pre-installed games. He'd know the major sites, but not really have accounts on any of them. Probably not totally inept with tech. He'd have Google alerts set on a couple of people. Gregor Clegane *cough cough* He'd be one of those that didn't really have any social media presence, any he did get would be through Joffrey.

Do you think Modern!Sandor is a virgin? This is aimed at the book version since his facial scarring is wayyy worse. 😭
I didn't think this would be the question that liberated my writing block, but here we are. Would a Sandor Clegane of our age be a virgin?
Tumblr media
Most likely...
but that answer is far too short, so let's break this down!
Sandor would be tied to the Lannisters. In the books and show, their wealth comes from the gold mines of Casterly Rock. In our society, their wealth would still come from mines, just not any close to Tywin's family estate. It would be blood diamonds. They would gain wealth through investing in the American railroad, and much more. Sandor's family would still work as their muscle in some capacity, and I am more privy to imagine them as mercenaries than policemen.
Like in the books, work saved Sandor's life. He's a personal driver for Joffrey and somewhat of a bodyguard. The all-in-all so to speak. Constantly near Joffrey, but never in any photo snapped by any paparazzi or walking Joff down the red carpet or escorting him through a banquet. His scar wouldn't be as severe as in the books simply due to modern medicine, but it would certainly affect how others treated him and how he viewed himself. He could buy sex, but I think he'd more take to viewing porn than going to a sex worker in person. Not because he'd be a prude or look down on them, but rather be reminded of the insecurity that the only attention he could get from a woman would be bought.
Views on women
Now, more often than I dare admit, I wonder if he'd be an incel? In the books, he's hostile to girls. However, I don't think he has the time to really get into that pipeline or any pipeline for that matter. Neither would he be some feminist icon or outspoken ally of any cause. I don't think he'd try for a relationship, simply because he doesn't think it an option. Frankly, I think the Sandor of our society would be more jaded than in ASOIAF. His strength and fitness aren't much put up against a bullet much less a nuke. Our society is equally, if not more, vain.
He'd not thrive, he might not even live
I question if he'd even survive. Sandor lacks in attributes our society values. The Hound isn't charming, he's threatening. He'd have no social support. An insane brother that wants him dead and the feeling is mutual. Like the Mountain with artillery? Maybe Gregor would have been sent to an institution or Sandor would have been the one to go... The more I think about this question, the less his cock becomes involved. Like Gregor killed a lot of people when he was young... wouldn't the FBI or NATO or anyone get involved?! He'd be more liability than worth at that point. Sandor in ASOIAF is clearly a functioning alcoholic, but maybe in our day and age, he'd be more into hard drugs like cocaine. If he still is a functioning alcoholic, does he drink and drive? He certainly did drink and ride. Maybe the body positivity movement influenced him, but I don't think so. He could totally cut himself off from his family though and flee to a remote area. A hermit in the woods? Maybe live on a boat and take a page from the actor that plays him in the show? Like what would his views be on technology even... Another Unabomber? Would his fondness for horses really translate over to cars? I mean, I know plenty of horse girls, and they HATE cars...
Tumblr media
Okay... I... He most likely would be a virgin. Maybe dead. Probably dead. Emotional baggage the size of Neptune? 100%

HI, essosi monarch anon here!!
so, first of all, i LOVE the little blarb you wrote for him; literally everything i dreamed of, lol. and i intended the request to be for headcanons but, in hindsight, your writing has me hooked!
so, i'm here to ask; do you take writing commissions? you have a very good grasp on sandor, and i'd love to chat with you about a little oc x canon fic; i'd love to see how you handle them, and i'd be more than willing to pay you for your work!!!
if this is out of the question/you don't feel comfortable taking commissions, feel free to put an extension of this one on the fic request list; either way, your writing is utterly delightful! keep doing what you're doing!!!
I'm glad you liked it! I don't take any payments for my fanfiction, if my reader is satisfied that's plenty. Also... I think I might get sued if I did.
However, you may still contact me regarding your fic. Requesting a series is as permittable as requesting a oneshot. You can also request for a fic to be sent privately, a few fics I've written have gone straight to the requester so there is no need for the work to get on my page. The two rules I have for such trades are:
Both parties remain anonymous to protect privacy.
That the story isn't posted elsewhere and claimed as their own work (this is basically just scouts honor that stops anyone from doing it, but meh... it is what it is).
The request can be as detailed or as vague as you like. The main thing I must know is:
if I should draw from the books or the show.
if it should contain spice.
any potential icks or triggers you don't want in the text.
My chat is also always open and I do not divulge who writes to me or what they write. The waiting list has plenty of fics on it but sometimes they can get bumped up in priority if the reader-insert or oc is underrepresented in fanfiction.

hey!! so i had a request: if the idea is interesting to you, how would the hound feel about falling for a powerful nobleman/monarch (maybe essosi?) who's chronically ill & has facial/body disfigurements from a birth defect?
sorry if this is too specific!! i've just been wondering how the hound would feel about essos & royalty and that big cultural gap, and i'm a self-indulgent (and disabled) hag who wants to hear about him having a disabled man as a partner, lol. whether you take this request or not, i love your writing, especially your characterization of sandor! keep up the good work!!
(Sandor Clegane x male!reader) Hi, if this was meant as a request for a fic then just holler at me again and I'll add you to the waiting list. Planning on plowing through them on my vacation. 🤗 Otherwise, here are my thoughts and rambles. Thank you for your kind words! Apologies for any spelling or grammatical errors, I'm trying to be less pedantic.

I just had to draw him acclimated to his new home. Relaxing and having a snack. I dunno what the dude's eating. A large plum? A red onion?
Let's begin with the setting:
We alter his canon. The Hound never became the Hound... well, not Joffrey's. Let the Lannisters have Gregor, there is gold to be had elsewhere. He's heard the tales. Listened as sailors regaled of spice merchants that could rival the riches within Casterly Rock, of princes, magistrates, and emperors worshiped as gods beyond the Jade Sea. One of them will have the need for good steel. As long as his master can point and his purse is full, they need not share the same tongue, Sandor's sword will speak for him. One of those many spice merchants, princes, magistrates, and emperors will be you.
How would it start?
Slowly. Regardless if he's aware and accepting of his bisexuality, he's not some fool desperate to lose his maidenhead. Especially if you're in control of the coin that pays for his wants and needs. His view of you will not be one that is kind. His world is a cruel one, and the life he's lived has been no different. In canon, Sandor tells Sansa (while joking about a traumatized and raped Lollys Stokeworth):
"...if you can't protect yourself, die and get out of the way of those who can..."
This is not a man that is considerate or empathetic by nature, which can be refreshing in its own right. He'll not eagerly bite the hands that feed him, but neither will he lie and say you didn't avoid his views on a technicality. It isn't your strong arms and steel that protect you. It is gold, and that gold has bought you his. This mindset applies to a wide spectrum of illnesses, ailments, disfigurement (that hinder physical performance), and disabilities. Sandor will wonder if you wanted his services because of his burn, that you see it like some sort of brotherhood. He'll not be completely open to the notion that you are clever enough to not pass on a good swordsman based on appearance. That you can see what more there is to Sandor Clegane than his scar and perhaps you hope he can show the same courtesy.
He won't.
Not at first. Your collaboration together will surround work and only work. You point, and the Hound goes. Sandor will start to pick up words here and there in your tongue. He knows and understands more than he lets on, but dislikes the chuckles whenever he speaks with a heavy Westerosi accent. The armor of dark plate will slowly switch to layered fabrics, chainmail, and pieces of plating (rather than a full set of plate). The once pale skin will darken under the Eastern sun. In Westeros, Sandor despised the showmanship of knights, but there is an honesty to how the Essosi deal with their gold and silk. It's not to boast of valor or honor, it is simple. Wealth. Gone are the comparing of lineages and legends of long-dead men, in Essos gold is everything.
As Sandor begins to adapt to his new surroundings, it won't be lost on the man that it's mostly due to you. You put down the time to explain your customs to him, you are the one ordering the many learned men to tutor your sellsword and you are the one that teaches the Hound what rules can be broken and which will cost him his head. Sandor isn't blind and he isn't ungrateful. His work is no longer a means to pay for his enjoyment, but something that brings him fulfillment in and of itself. He starts to devote time to learning more about you, your interests, and your past.
A good shield knows the one it guards.
That excuse will serve him well for a time. It's when his concern starts to shift that the man no longer can lie to himself. He can protect you from any danger heading your way. A madman with an axe, some assassins here and there, but the struggles that are your own? He knows shit about it. If the gods were true they sure as hells had no intention for him to be a maester.
Sod off
Sandor won't ask about it. He still doesn't want the reason for your friendship to be the brotherhood of the scarred and maimed. Your struggles are yours, his are his. There's no help in stealing the others. His growing care for you will show as the opposite, he'll ask less and seem more distant as you talk. The Hound will become more solitary overall, your servants tell you that he's stopped his usual route to the brothels. Sandor knows he should leave Essos. Gregor has lived for far too long. He'll pack once or twice, try and muster the will to tell you that he's leaving.
More excuses. The rest of your guard is too weak. Didn't that merchant give you an odd look at the last feast? Best stay a little longer, just until you're safe. If pressed too much during this period, the Hound might very well bite the hand that feeds him. He'd like the excuse of being sent away.
Sparks and relationship
When this strange friendship changes to romance is hard to say. He'll not be sober when he makes any deeper feelings known. A blunder. Something Sandor planned to keep his mouth shut about until he died. As a relationship begins to form between you, his support will grow into new areas. If someone rubs you the wrong way, he'll make a note and whisper an insult in your ear. He'll do that too many that trouble you. It's not a brotherhood, but he knows just how annoying it is to be surrounded by whispers and fleeting looks.
Sandor would have found joy in Essos, in your service, and unlike in his homeland, he would have been open that you were the man that he loved... you would have protected him from the hardships that await him.

Underrated OC Build
I went the more cliché route of making my OC Jon Snow's twin, but for a long time, Sera wasn't a Snow but a Dustin.
House Dustin is genuinely one of the most underrated houses when it comes to OC creation in ASOIAF. The potential for conflict and turmoil within this house is simply tremendous.
The Lady of Barrowton
Tumblr media
Sketch by: Me✨
Lady Barbrey Dustin harbors deep envy toward Lady Catelyn Stark. Her maidenhead was claimed by Brandon Stark, the man first set to be Lord of Winterfell and Lady Catelyn Tully's first betrothed. Lady Barbrey was born a Redwyne, and instead of becoming Lady of Winterfell, she was wed to Lord Willem Dustin. Barbrey seems to have fallen for her Lord Husband and when he was called to follow Lord Eddard Stark south to Dorne she gifted him a steed. Lord Willem Dustin fell in the dunes of Dorne, his horse returned but not his bones unlike that of Lyanna Stark which Eddard carefully transported back to the North. In her eyes, not only was Winterfell taken from her and the man she first loved promised to another, her husband died and his remains were buried in a foreign land. Lord Willem and Barbrey Dustin never had children and she never remarried. While Eddard Stark grew a family, Lady Dustin remained alone in her seat and her bitterness only grew.
She has a dislike for southron customs and distrust of maesters. Changing the story and making an OC the only child between her and Lord Willem Dustin would deeply tie them to the story. Perhaps during a visit to a house sworn to them, Lady Catelyn Stark notices hints of cold from Lady Barbrey and in an effort to secure the future loyalty of House Dustin arranges for the OC to be raised at Winterfell. (A great honor generally, but would be another slight in Barbrey's eyes). This would make the OC right in the click of the Stark children and their age would be similar to Jon's. They'd have uncles that bicker like an old married couple. A grandfather with an entire herd of horses to take your pick. A potential marriage with the Manderlys would give them large control of the southern part of the North. I don't want to spoil what Lady Barbrey does in the books but god damn this woman is an amazing fountain of angst and conflict. The fact that the show cut this storyline and HER out... outright abominable!
Sooo if you're thinking about writing fanfiction for ASOIAF but unsure of what backstory to give them might I suggest a house with enough potential drama to make William Shakespeare return from the dead?

I feel like that army poster:
Fanfiction needs you, are you up for the task? 🫵
No, but do it. Pretty please?
