I’m simply not having a good time today so have a few sweet headcanons that I hope will brighten your day:

For the first few weeks after joining the batch all Echo did was listen to Tech talk. He thought his voice was soothing and with Tech he didn’t have to think too hard about what he’d been through. He could just listen. Tech liked having the company.

If any of the batch are in a bad mood they can sit next to Hunter and he will just play with their hair or rub their backs. Just absentmindedly. No one needs to talk. They can exist near him for a while.

Wrecker collects flowers to press. He carries a little book around. It’s battered and ripped in a few places but it has a flower from the first planet they ever went to together. He cherishes it.

Tech chats to Crosshair often bc he just listens. He sits quietly and looks over at Tech every so often and makes noises to let Tech know he’s still listening but he just lets him ramble. Tech has woken him up in the middle of the night because he’s restless and Crosshair will sleepily nod along with whatever Tech is saying.

They go to Echo whenever they want to get something off of their chests. He knows when they need to confess something or talk out a problem. He knows when they did something stupid and want to tell someone without everyone finding out. He gives great advice. He offers his hand or scomp for them to hold and sometimes they take him up on it. It feels better afterwards.

Crosshair brings tiny gifts to everyone. A cool rock he found. A flower for Wrecker’s book. A weird object he found tossed away on the side of the road that Tech would love to look at. Crosshair is also an excellent artist and doodles on things then gives them to the batch. They each have a small stack of doodles tucked away somewhere.

On good nights Echo tells stories. Everyone has learned that if he starts talking close to lights out to just sit down and listen, probe with easy questions, hear him out until he’s done. He tells the best stories. They love to hear about what he’s done and where he’s been.

I’m writing something stupidly fluffy about Rex, Echo, and Fives to cope with the finale so here are some headcanons about them:

Fives pulls his brothers into dance parties all the time. He sings and plays loud music and he makes them dance especially when they’re in a bad mood.

Rex got attached to the domino twins after like. Two minutes. Yes those two cling to Rex like they would die without him but he saw them and basically adopted them without a second thought.

Echo can handle pain, discomfort, being annoyed or irritated, any of it. But he’s deathly ticklish and Fives and Rex make his life hell (affectionately) because of it. Minding his own business? He’s getting attacked. Sulking? Looks like they’re going to make him laugh to break up the bad mood. He’s being a shit? Oh they’re gonna have to mess with him. Sorry Echo they don’t make the rules (yes they do). They like to hear him laugh.

Fives is a stage five (lol) clinger. I’m talking hugs and cuddling and wrestling and any and all physical affection. It’s his love language for sure.

Echo accidentally called Rex “dad” in a conversation once and he immediately froze. Went bright red. Rex tried to play it off like he didn’t just hear that but Fives is a terror so he went straight into “oooooooh you just called Rex daaaaaaad”

Rex squeezed Echo’s shoulder and went about his business but he did immediately tell Cody that it happened.

Rex has an excellent singing voice and he has sung both twins to sleep before. Bc I say so that’s why.

Sometimes Rex is peacefully drifting off to sleep and all of a sudden he’s being accosted by one or both domino twins as they crawl into his bed and fall asleep on top of him. It happens so often sometimes he doesn’t even wake up.

The first time one of the twins got hurt after joining the 501st Rex paced the halls and pestered the medics and slept by their bedside until they healed. He was worried sick.

Additionally. After the twins were made ARCs Rex got hurt bad enough that he was unconscious for a few days and when he woke both of them were asleep on either side of the bed. He was so relieved the two of them were okay that he almost forgot that he was the one who just got injured.

Fives snores. Directly into Echo’s ear every. single. time they share a bed. Echo starts to find a lot of comfort in that sound.

Echo always knows when Fives or Rex are upset. I hc that Echo has really bad anxiety and he’s hyper aware of mood shifts and stuff like that. So he knows in the way Fives sighs or how Rex tries to stretch his neck muscles that they’re struggling.

And because he knows. He tries to help. He asks them what’s wrong or tries to talk it out. Maybe he’ll get them a snack or convince them to take a nap.

The three of them have my heart and I’m never going to stop talking about them

I've been resource gathering for YEARS so now I am going to share my dragons hoard

Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.

Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.

Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.

Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.

SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.

SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.

Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.

Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.

Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.

Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.

Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.

So there's posts and fics with Alpha-17 as an Arc trainer.

Echo probably had to do a lot pf physical therapy/training after he was rescued. Alpha-17 from what I've picked up of the comics probably had to do the same.

So how about Alpha-17 looking at this trooper and he remembers training him and his brother, who's gone now, and knows the two of them were competent as fuck even if he's not gonna tell them that, can't let the younger vod get cocky, and he's all too familiar with grieving and recovering SO the day after Echo and the Batch land on Kamino he shows up in the training room they're using just like "come on you little shit time to get you back into shape."

And Echo just turns to Tech and goes "Maybe you should have left me in that stasis chamber."

The Batch just kinda blinks at that cause they haven't heard him joke much and Alpha-17 just goes "still a little shit. good. now get your ass over here before I have to come get you."

I just realized something…

Clone Force 99 had a 100% success rate when they rescued Echo from Skako Minor. What if…

What if all they know about the regs‘ success rate is based on the time when Echo was held captive by the Techno Union?

What if a great deal of CF99’s 100% success rate was based on doing it differently but it didn’t matter how exactly because the Seppies put all their trust in their „strategic algorithm“ i.e. Echo.

What if this gave CF99 the impression that the strategies and tactics developed by Rex and Echo were flawed and theirs were superior.

What if they never really realized that Rex’s and Echo’s strategies and tactics were excellent and only failed because the Seppies extracted them from Echo’s brain.

What if the impression that Echo‘s plans are flawed and inferior to theirs stuck with them after his extraction, even if it was just on a subconscious level.

What if that’s why they never used his full potential and limited him to his role as a regular soldier and “the guy with the scomp arm”?

What if this - along with Echo’s desire to do more - played a role in his decision to join Rex again, who knows about his abilities and will value and use his tactical and strategic expertise?

Edit: Just for clarification this is not meant to criticize CF99 but rather to explain why they never used Echo’s full potential in spite of his experience.

They had to get rid of Echo before the Umbara Arc because he would have clocked Krell and flawlessly execute a plan to stop him.

It wasn’t Echo holding Fives back, it was Fives holding Echo back from causing shit.

Some Bad Batch Headcanons

Tech snores like a dad

Wrecker actually is a quiet sleeper

Hunter does the bare minimum to care for his hair, like he uses hand soap for it, and it still looks amazing

Omega being born with a blonde mutation and not having any developmental issues led the Kaminoans to allowing more blond clone troopers to live to deployment

Wrecker is the one that initiates picking up and carrying Omega mostly because it is easier for him to keep an eye on her this way

Wrecker has lost Omega in crowds more than once because she is barely hip height to him in S1, couple that with little to no vision in one eye and a trashed ear, he struggles a little bit (hence the picking up and carrying)

Despite not liking regs, the Batch had a lot of respect for the 501st and drew many of their battle strategies from 501st tactics

Echo didn’t share much about his time with the 501st until Omega came around, this lead to multiple story times which had the whole bad batch circled around him listening and fangirling

Crosshair cannot see things close up, as his eyes were modified for long distance, he needs classes or contacts for reading things but refuses to wear glasses

That being said he will steal Tech’s goggles because they do help quite a bit

Given the choice, Omega will choose Wrecker’s bunk to sleep in over Hunter’s

This is due to A) Wrecker actually likes cuddling and barely moves in his sleep, B) she noticed that Hunter doesn’t sleep as well with someone else in his bunk

That doesn’t stop Hunter from pouting that she chooses Wrecker

Echo is really good at sparring after his ARC training, being down 3 limbs only motivated him to get back to his peak form as well as he could. He can and will put anybody in the Bad Batch (including wrecker) on their shebs

Tech is ordained and can officiate weddings (no one knows when he did this or why)
