this is one of my (several) side blogs and i gotta say, out of all the fandoms i contribute to twd fandom is by far the best one.
this blog has the most followers and notes (though not by much), but this is the only fandom i’m a part of where people occasionally leave comments or reblog my content
it’s very frustrating (on my newest blog especially) how many people go through my masterlist and spam like all of my work, but they never follow me afterwards. let alone leave any comments or reblogs.
it’s disheartening tbh
No one reblogs on tumblr anymore.
No one leaves comments on Ao3 anymore.
Seriously people the lack of fandom interaction these days makes me genuinely depressed, it never used to be like this, makes me wonder what's the point of coming online to do anything anymore.
Reblog a post so other people can see it.
Leave a comment so the author doesn't feel like giving up.
Fandom cannot live on Likes or Kudos alone.

Eight Minutes. Pre Apocalypse!Daryl x Reader
Tumblr media
had a short thought of Young!Daryl being a lil silly and overprotective of his Not Girlfriend. i had trouble logging back into this account but i figured it out 🥳
“Yeah?” Daryl answers.
“Hey, it’s me. I’m sorry but can you come pick me up please?”
“Car break down or somethin’?”
You give an exasperated sigh and side-eye the men standing outside the restaurant. “No… I served some fuckin’ creeps and now they’re just sittin’ outside in the parking lot. They’ve been there for an hour now ‘n I don’t wanna walk out there on my own.”
“Be there in ten.” He states before hanging up.
You find this a bit odd since the restaurant is at least twenty minutes away from Daryl’s house.
After the phone call, you continue rolling silverware and helping with dishes until Daryl shows up.
Daryl’s truck pulls into the parking lot eight minutes after the phone call.
From inside the restaurant, you see Daryl spot the men standing and talking in a circle. You can’t hear what’s being said, but you see the shotgun in Daryl’s arms as he gets out of his truck.
The conversation is short; after less than a minute of Daryl confronting the men, they’re getting in their cars and driving away.
You hurriedly clock out and rush out of the restaurant, jogging towards Daryl. “Jesus Christ! I meant I wanted you to walk me out—maybe even drive me home—not threaten to fucking shoot them!”
He spits on the ground, still holding the shotgun. “Ya weren’t specific.”

Ripped Tent. Daryl x Reader
Tumblr media
Takes place between season two and three. It’s a miserable and frustrating time.
Masterlist.
You pull your legs up to your chest and burrow deeper into your sleeping bag. It’s a terribly cold night. You aren’t exactly sure how it happened, but a big rip appeared on one side of your tent.
A large gust of wind mercilessly rips its way through your tent and your hands start to shake. It’s still warmer inside the tent than outside, but not by much.
The group had spent the last week or so staying in an abandoned house, but you were forced to leave once a small herd of walkers showed up. Everyone is malnourished and exhausted, so no one had the energy to try and fight them.
Normally you don’t have much of a problem sleeping, but now your feet are numb and you limbs won’t stop trembling. There’s no way you’ll be sleeping tonight. You crawl out of your sleeping bag and hope the fire is still alive outside.
You exit your tent and see Daryl sitting outside in front of the small fire. One person always to stays awake to keep watch while everyone else sleeps. You sit next to him and hold you hands close to the fire.
“Can’t sleep?” He asks quietly.
“M-My tent got a huge r-rip in it somehow so I’m f-freezing my ass off in there.” You say through chattering teeth.
You stick your feet out and scoot forward to be closer to the fire, but Daryl softly pulls your shoulder back. He warns, “You’re gonna melt the tread off your boots sittin’ like that.”
You feel angry at him for telling you to move back. You’re freezing and your body won’t stop shaking and he’s telling you to sit further away from the fire?! What else are you supposed to do?
You shoot him a quick glare, but you listen to him and scoot back. You know you aren’t actually angry at Daryl; he’s right to protect you from ruining your boots.
You’re just irrational from the hunger and exhaustion. You’ve lost a noticeable amount of weight in the last couple months, and you can’t remember the last time you felt truly relaxed.
But it’s not just you. Everyone in the group has been on edge since leaving the farm.
You think of the resentment you hold for Lori. It’s infuriating seeing her get to eat the biggest portions of food whilst doing nothing to help anyone else.
You know this feeling is also irrational. She’s in her second trimester and it’s obvious she’s unable to do much of anything, but you can’t help the frustration you feel when you see her eating her second or third meal of the day while your stomach growls and cramps from hunger.
You can’t help but hate her for getting pregnant. You would never voice this to anyone, but it’s true.
It’s all irrational, but it’s how you feel.
You sit cross-cross-applesauce and tuck your hands under your armpits. Daryl lights a cigarette, and you ask for a hit. He hands it to you without hesitation, but says “You don’t smoke.”
You shrug and take a long drag of the cigarette. “I used to when I was a teenager. My mom found a pack of cigarettes in my book bag and took my door off its hinges.”
He smirks. “Merle gave me my first cig when I was eleven. Coughed so hard I puked in the kitchen sink.”
“Gross.” You laugh. You take one more drag and hand the cigarette back to Daryl. “I’m not sleeping tonight, so I’ll take over watch and you can go.”
He shakes his head. “Nah, it’s my shift. You go sleep in my tent. I’ll wake you up ‘n send you out here if I get tired.”
You’re so exhausted you don’t argue. “If you insist.”
You pat Daryl on the shoulder as you stand up. You step into Daryl’s tent and take a quick look around. There’s nothing but a backpack, a couple small blankets, and some extra bolts for his crossbow.
You zip the tent closed and curl up on the ground with the blankets. Your teeth still chatter, but it’s not as harsh as before. Daryl’s blankets smell like dirt and cigarette smoke.
Without the wind biting you, you fall asleep easily.
Later, you hear a faint sound of the tent being opened. Daryl lays down beside you. You halfheartedly toss some of the blanket his way and drift back to sleep.
Then you wake up with Daryl snoring in your ear.
You’re not cold anymore. Your back is pressed tightly against Daryl with his arm draped over your waist. The sun is rising, and you hear some of the others rustling around outside.
Daryl stirs awake and rolls away from you. You slowly sit up and mumble a quiet “Good morning.”
Without opening his eyes, he responds “Mornin’…”
You place your hand on his forearm and joke, “I don’t know about you, but I slept great last night.”
Daryl still doesn’t open his eyes, but he smiles, “I slept alright.”

Chapter Four
The group came back later in the evening. They were missing Merle but found another person. It was amazing watching a family reunite. You've all come to expect the reality of losing people, so it was incredible to see a family find each other again.
However, you can't help but feel bad for Merle and Daryl. T-Dog chained Merle up on a roof, and he's likely going to be stuck there until someone goes to help him.
You understand both sides. Merle is impossible to deal with, but it's wrong to leave him chained up like an animal. It's gotta be almost ninety degrees today, and he was left on the roof of a tall building with no shelter or water. You can't help but worry about the effects of dehydration and heat exhaustion. Merle may be a prick, but even he doesn't deserve to die like that.
After the sun went down, everyone put on their jackets and gathered around their campfires. You can't help but think of Merle. Now he's probably freezing cold and sitting alone in the dark.
A few yards away, Ed throws another log on his fire pit. Shane scolds him and takes the log out of the fire. You notice how Carol and Sofia look worried after the exchange. Ed is too much of a pussy to stand up to Shane, so he'll most likely take his anger out on his family.
Once Shane returns to your group, the conversation turns to discuss Daryl. Andrea chimes in, "We tell the truth. Merle was out of control. He was out of control. If Merle got left behind, it's no one's fault but Merle's."
"And that's what we tell Daryl?" Dale questions. "I don't see a rational discussion to be had from that, do you?"
T-Dog speaks matter-of-factly, "Dixon's alive. He's still up there handcuffed on that roof. That's on us."
You speak softly. "He's got another day--two days max--without any water."
The next day, everyone falls back into their usual routine. Samson wakes you up with a shit-eating grin. "Well, I brought you back those M&M's. I think that's deserving of at least one load of laundry."
You roll over and scoff, "You brought me back one small bag of my least favorite candy, and you think that means I should spend all day scrubbing your nasty-ass clothes? Fuck off."
Samson pokes your ribs, tickling you. "Hey, candy ain't easy to come by these days. It's better than nothing."
You slap his hand and jump out of your sleeping bag. You hiss, "Don't fucking touch me, dickhead!"
He grins. "C'mon. Just a shirt and pair of pants?"
"No! I have to wash my own clothes." You argue. "Now fuck off so I can change."
He rolls his eyes and climbs out of the tent. You hear him mumble something about what a bitch you are on his way out.
As you get dressed, your mind travels back to Merle. You don't know why you're so concerned for him. He's by far your least favorite person in the group, but you still can't help but worry about him. And you worry for Daryl. They're the only family they have, and you know how that feels.
You're not sure how you'd react if you lost Samson.
As that thought crosses your mind, you grab some of Samson's dirty laundry along with your own and take it outside to wash. Neither of you are survivors or fighters, so now you figure you should at least take care of each other in the best ways you know how.
You see Carol putting some wet clothes out to dry. You stop and ask, "Hey, can I borrow your washboard?"
She smiles, "Of course. Do you have--"
Carol was cut off by the sound of Sofia and Carl screaming. You both drop everything and run in their direction. You speed past Carol and get there first. At first glance, the kids look unhurt, but then you see what they were screaming about.
A walker is eating the entrails of a deer. There are several arrows sticking out of the deer, and you wonder if it belongs to Daryl.
Some of the men in the group walk past you to take care of the walker. They take turns hitting it with various objects until Dale chops its head off with an ax.
"That's the first one we've had up here." Dale pants. "They never come this far up the mountain."
"They're running out of food in the city, that's what." Jim states and everyone silently agrees. You hear movement coming from the forest, and everyone's guards go up. Shane raises his gun, and then Daryl emerges from behind a boulder.
You can't help but be impressed by him. He was alone in the woods for two nights, and he comes back to camp without a scratch on him.
Daryl quickly realizes the walker ate his deer, and he begins kicking the shit out of it and calling it rude names. He only stops when Dale sighs loudly, "Now that's not helping anything, son."
Daryl turns on Dale, insulting him, "Why don't you take that stupid hat and go back to 'On Golden Pond'?"
You stifle a laugh. Your grandma loved that movie.
Daryl pulls his arrows out of the deer's body and points around the meat. He glances around the group, "What do ya think? Think we can cut around this part?"
Shane shakes his head. "I wouldn't risk it."
"That's a damn shame." Daryl sighs. "I've got some squirrel--about a dozen or so. That'll have to do."
He looks at you for a second, and you smile. Despite what happened the last time you talked to him, you still think it's best to try and be on his good side. Daryl is obviously a survivor; he seems built for this world, and you can always use someone like that on your team.
Daryl walks past everyone, yelling for Merle. The men exchange a look and go after him. Shane and Rick explain to Daryl what happened in Atlanta, and, unsurprisingly, Daryl tries to fight Rick. Shane puts Daryl in a chokehold and tries to deescalate the situation.
You feel pity for Daryl, as he looks like he's trying not to cry.
They begin to discuss going back to Atlanta to retrieve Merle. Shane is visibly upset, not wanting to risk losing more members of the group to save him.
T-Dog volunteers to go and help find Merle. Daryl scoffs, wiping down his arrows with a red handkerchief. "My day just gets better and better, don't it?"
T-Dog argues, "You see anyone else stepping up to save your bother's cracker-ass?"
You fold your arms over your chest. "I could go... In case Merle needs any kind of medical attention--"
"No." Shane cuts you off. "We not risking losing a doctor for Merle Dixon."
Rick agrees. "He's right. Worst case scenario Merle is dehydrated and has a bad sunburn. No reason to drag you into it."
You shrug your shoulders and tilt your head to the side, mumbling, "Alright. It was just an offer."
Rick tells the group that he left a big bag of guns and ammo in Atlanta, and he needs to go back to get them. You listen quietly, feeling that you have nothing else to add to the conversation.
To be honest, you've never felt more helpless in your entire life. You're not sure what to do to be more of a helping hand around the group. Even if you're needed because someone gets hurt or sick, there wouldn't be much that you could do to help them. You have little-to-no medical equipment or medications.
You can't help but feel useless when you think about it too much.

Chapter Two.
Warnings: None
Chapter Three.
"Just be safe. Please." You tell Samson. The sun is rising, and a small group is getting ready to leave for Atlanta. You offered to go with them, but there's no room for you. There are already too many people going, and they need the extra space for supplies.
"I'll be fine." Samson smiles. "Wash my laundry for me while I'm gone, would ya?"
"If you bring me back something good, I'll think about it." You agree.
Glenn chimes in, throwing his bag into the vehicle. "Does that go for me too? I hate washing clothes."
You stare at him. "I'm a doctor. Not a laundry service."
He looks down, bashful, and laughs nervously. He's a sweet kid, just a little awkward. You smirk and pat his bicep, "Carol has been wanting a sewing set. Keep an eye out for one and she might be grateful enough to help you out."
Glenn grins. "I'll remember that."
Just then, Daryl and Merle walk over. You hear Daryl grumbling, "I don' even know why the hell you're goin' with them."
"I asked the same thing." You mumble to yourself. Samson never gave you a straight answer on why he insists on going with them. You never thought he was the type to be brave and risk his life for other people. Looking around at the group, you aren't sure why most of these people are going to the city. Some of them, like Samson, don't have guns and don't seem like the fighting type.
"Everybody all ready to hit the road?" Merle shouts, ignoring Daryl. Glenn looks around at the group of people leaving with him, and he seems anxious. He always goes to the city alone, but he can never bring back enough supplies all by himself.
The group went over the plan backward and forward last night. They're going to hit a pharmacy and a couple of gas stations, and if all goes well, they should be back before sundown. You gave Glenn a list of medications to be on the lookout for. Mostly antibiotics and basic cold/flu medicines.
Everyone begins to say their goodbyes and pile into the vehicle. You give Samson a firm hug. "Seriously. Please be safe."
He nods and pats you on the back. "Yeah, yeah. I will."
"Love you."
"Love you, too."
Samson hops in the back of the vehicle, and they take off down the mountain. Everyone disperses to go do their chores, or maybe go back to sleep for a few hours. Daryl is still standing near you, and you wonder if you should talk to him.
He doesn't seem like the type to make casual conversation, but you decide to give it a shot. You proceed cautiously, "Hey, um, I never got a chance to thank you for telling us about this place."
He looks at you and huffs. "Not a big deal."
"It was to us." You insist. "We would've died out there."
He shrugs his shoulders and turns to walk away. "Yeah. Probably."
You follow him, trying to keep up with his long stride. "Really. I owe you. If there's anything you need or anything I can do for you, let me kn-"
Daryl stops walking and cuts you off. "I don' need anything from you. I need you to leave me the hell alone."
"Oh." You say, standing a few steps behind him. Daryl keeps walking, leaving you standing there. You can't help but wonder why he hates you so much.
Or maybe he just hates everyone.

yes i do!! i’ll be sure you add you to it. tysm for all of your nice words ❤️❤️ i haven’t added anything to the pre-apocalypse series for a while bc i’ve been having some writers block for it :// but i’ll be sure to let you know when i update ✨
Jealousy. Part Two.
Sequel to Jealousy.
Tumblr media
i wanted pt. 2 to be realistic to Daryl’s character, but i also wanted the story to be more fun and lighthearted. so i imagine (y/n) as someone that is good at talking to daryl when he’s upset, and just tries to make light of the situation. also, i’m happy ppl seemed to like part one!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You walk through the parking lot towards Daryl. Merle told you that he stormed out because he’s jealous, and you aren’t sure if you believe that or not.
You and Daryl have flirted off and on in the past, but nothing serious has ever come of it. In fact, Daryl has almost never shown any romantic interest in you. It’s almost always you doing the flirting with him, so you aren’t sure what to think of this situation.
Daryl’s leaning against the fender of his truck. He doesn’t look at you as you approach him, but you ignore it and just smile. “Hey, handsome.”
Before coming outside, you covered yourself up in a hoodie. Daryl looks at you and scoffs, “Aren’t you supposed to be working?”
You shrug and lean against the truck next to him. “I took a fifteen. Some of the other girls are watching my tables.”
Daryl doesn’t respond, so you continue talking with a small laugh. “I made sure one of the girls with big boobs took over Merle’s table.”
He lights a cigarette, but still doesn’t say anything. Daryl knows that if he speaks right now, he’ll say something that’ll hurt your feelings. He’s done that quite a few times in the past, and he always feels guilty afterward. So now he’s choosing to practice the old ‘If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all’.
After sitting in silence for a moment and confirming to yourself that Daryl still isn’t going to speak, you sigh, “This is fine. You know me. I can talk to myself.”
Daryl rolls his eyes and offers you a puff of his cigarette. “What do ya want me to say?”
You shrug, just happy that he’s talking again. “Whatever’s bothering you, I guess.”
He lies, “Nothin’s bothering me.”
Now it’s your turn to roll your eyes. “Liar. You’re obviously not happy that I’m working here.”
Daryl says nothing. What’s he supposed to say?
Yes, obviously he’s pissed off that you’re working here, but what’s the point of telling you that? It’s not like you’re going to quit, so it just seems pointless to discuss.
You continue talking. “You already gotta know I don’t like working here. The men are pigs and it’s totally fucking annoying to deal with, but I’m actually making more money just working here than I did when I was working two jobs.”
This only confirms Daryl’s previous thoughts. He’s never going to be happy about you working here, and you’re not going to quit. So what is there to talk about?
You groan quietly. This conversation is going nowhere. You silently decide to just change the subject.
You stand up straight and move to stand closely in front of Daryl. He looks down at you as you poke him in the chest. “Fine. Be that way; I have to go back inside.”
As Daryl looks down at your finger in the middle of his chest, you quickly brush your hand up to flick him on the nose. You giggle at your own stupid joke and wink at him. “Come back inside. You’re the best looking customer I’ve had. I have to gloat to all of my coworkers about my hot neighbor.”
Daryl swats your hand away and scoffs. “Shut up. I ain’t going back in there just to watch all those assholes talk and look at you like that.”
You smirk. So he is just jealous. How sweet.
Daryl throws his cigarette butt down and puts his hands in his pockets. You smile and take a small step forward, placing your hands on his forearms. “Fine, stay out here. But you have to come over and hang out with me later!”
“Why do I have to do that?” He asks, finally starting to loosen up a little.
“Because I told you to.” You grin, gently squeezing his forearms. “And because I’m making chicken for dinner, and my little brother is staying at a friend’s house. So I don’t wanna eat alone.”
Daryl concedes. “Fine, whatever.”
“Ha ha!” You laugh, then brush your thumb across Daryl’s cheek. “Sweet. I’m going back inside. See ya later!”
As you’re walking away, Daryl shouts out to you, “Tell Merle to hurry the hell up or I’m leavin’ without him!”
New Life (Daryl Dixon x Female!Reader)
Tumblr media
Warnings: None. Just some arguments.
Chapter One
Thank you to everyone who enjoyed chapter one and everyone new who followed me ❤️ i know these chapters are pretty short, so i’m trying to have a new chapter up every couple days. If you want to be added to the tag list just lmk 😙
Chapter Two.
The last few weeks at the quarry had gone well. You and Samson had made friends with most of the people in the camp, but you haven’t spoken to Daryl since he found you in the forest. He and his brother are the outsiders in the group, and it’s not hard to see why.
Merle is loud and obnoxious. He’s always picking a fight with someone. Daryl keeps to himself a lot, but he’s known to be a hothead when even slightly provoked. You always try to smile and wave at him, but he rarely returns the favor. Sometimes he'll give you a head nod, but most of the time he just ignores you.
So far, you’ve gotten closest to Lori. She's a nice woman, and you imagine you could've been friends even before the world ended. She told you about her husband, but you can't help but notice how close she is to Shane. They sleep in the same tent and sneak off to be alone as often as they can.
You think it's pretty odd of her to be dating her husband's best friend so soon after he died, but it's none of your business. So you stay quiet on the subject. It can get pretty annoying though, especially when you're doing chores together.
Like just now, Lori was helping you and Carol make dinner. Then Shane came over and asked Lori to "help" him with something down by the creek...
She hasn't been back in 45 minutes.
You speak your thoughts to Carol. "Lori's been gone a while."
Carol looks at you with a knowing smile. "She and Shane must be busy."
You chuckle, "Yeah. Must be."
Just then, Samson struts over. He sits between you and Carol and snickers, "I just gave Sofia a bandage. She scraped her knee and thought she broke her leg."
Carol laughs softly, "That's Sofia. But she's okay, though, right?"
"Yeah, she's fine." Samson waves her off, then turns to you. "A whole group of people are going to the city tomorrow to scout for supplies. I'm going with them."
Your head snaps up. "What? Why would you go?"
He shrugs. "I want to."
You exclaim, "You don't even have a weapon! How will you protect yourself? Are you fucking dumb?"
Samson rolls his eyes and stands up. "Fuck off. I'll take the knife. I'll be fine."
He starts to walk away, but you shoot up and move quickly to stand in front of him. "A small hunting knife isn't gonna save you from hundreds of walkers, dumbass."
Samson dodges you and continues to walk away. “A few of the other people in the group have guns. I’ll be fine.”
You walk beside him, trying to keep up with his fast pace. “Sam who gives a shit if they have guns? We barely know these people! Who knows what they would do or if they would save you if you get put in a tight spot.”
“(Y/n)…” Samson stops walking and sighs desperately. “Please just shut the fuck up for once. I’m going with them, and there’s nothing you can say or do to stop me. So, again, just shut up.”
Before you can respond, Merle yells at you from a few feet away, “Aw, darlin’, just shut up and quit givin’ the boy so much shit. You’re actin’ more like his mommy than his sister.”
You snap, “Who the fuck was talking to you, Merle? I wasn’t!”
At this point a few people start staring and eavesdropping in on the altercation. Normally you would’ve been embarrassed by this, but for some reason you couldn’t care less right now.
Merle gives you a lopsided grin and walks closer. He casually throws his arm around Samson’s shoulder. Samson gives a small effort to get away from Merle, but Merle just holds him tighter. Merle looks in your eyes as he speaks. “I’ll keep an eye on him for ya. He’ll be safe as long as ol’ Merle is lookin’ out for him.”
You suppress a laugh and retort sarcastically. “Right. Because you care so much about his well-being.”
“Not at all!” Merle replies truthfully and laughs obnoxiously. “But as long as it gets y’all to shut the fuck up then I’ll fight for him to my last breath!”
You scoff. Samson pushes Merle off of him, and tells the both of you to ‘fuck off’. Merle laughs again and stares at you, waiting for a response.
You say nothing. You think of a lot of things that you could say to Merle, but you know it’s for the best that you just turn around and walk away.
One of the biggest things you learned during your residency is how to deal with difficult patients, and to be honest, you were never very good at it. Your patience is very thin and your mouth is too big. So most of the time, you just have to force yourself to walk away and take a breath of air.
You take your seat next to Carol, and silently continue preparing dinner. She looks at you out of the corner of her eye, and cautiously asks, “Do you wanna talk about it?”
“Nope.” You say quickly and firmly.
You know Samson is a big boy and he can make his own decisions, but you don’t know if he can take care of himself the way he thinks he can.
New Life (Daryl Dixon x Female!Reader)
Tumblr media
Reader is a doctor surviving with her younger brother. Romantic slow burn chapter story starting at the first season and following canon events.
Chapter One
“You just had to stay in Atlanta, huh? You couldn’t just come home when I told you to.” You scold your brother once again.
Samson scoffs, “I wish you’d shut the fuck up already. What’s done is done.”
You’re both walking through the forest, trying to figure out where to go. Originally you were driving out of the city, but it was impossible to drive the highway because of the abandoned cars everywhere. You tried continuing the journey on foot, but there were too many biters on the road and you have no weapons other than a knife.
Before everything went to shit, you begged Samson to leave the city and come stay with you. But he refused; he thought the issue would be resolved quickly and there was no need to leave. Then the city bombings started, and you found Samson hiding out in his apartment. Luckily the blasts didn’t have much affect on the apartment building, so Samson was okay.
It was stupid going into the city to find Samson when you weren’t even sure if he was still going to be there, but it was worth it in the end. By some stroke of luck, you were able to avoid and run away from the biters and make it out safely.
You stop hiking and lean against a tree. Samson stops beside you and takes a sip of water. You sigh, “What’s our end goal here? I have no idea where the fuck we’re even going.”
“Me either.” He replies simply. You could go back to your house and try to round up some more supplies, but you live in a big neighborhood. Looting has been a major problem for the last few weeks. And now that the world is officially over, you imagine someone else has already broken in and taken most of your important shit.
Before going to find Samson, you packed a few canned foods and water. Then you went to your office to steal some medical supplies. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.
You both sit in silence for a few minutes to catch your breath. You were never a fan of hiking. Before either of you can say anything else, you hear leaves crunching and loud groaning behind you.
“Ah, fuck. Let’s go.”
A biter comes into view, but before it can get any closer an arrow is shot through its temple.
A man in a green tank top appears through the bushes, and he pulls the arrow out of the biter’s skull. He rests his boot on the biter’s face and stares at the both of you. He speaks in a very aggravated tone and with a heavy country accent. “Y’all sure you don’t wanna talk any goddamn louder? Scare away all of the animals and bring more walkers in?”
You suddenly feel embarrassed by your obvious mistake. You feel like an idiot. You two were practically yelling at each other all the way up the mountain. It’s surprising you only attracted one biter. “Oh, uh. You’re right. We’re sorry. Thank you though—for killing the biter.”
He grunts in response. Before you can think of something else to say, Samson starts babbling out questions, “So do you have a camp somewhere or something? Are there more people? It’s just the two of us and—”
You cut him off by hitting him lightly in the stomach. You lean in close, speaking quickly and quietly, “We don’t know this man. Best not to tell strangers we’re alone, don’t you think?”
But to your surprise, the man wastes no time and points east. “Camp that way. Lots a people. Now get lost; yer scarin away all the meat.”
You and Samson both say quiet and awkward ‘Thank you’s and start walking. You want to ask him more questions, but the strange man obviously doesn’t feel like talking.
Once you’ve gotten far enough away from him, you think aloud, “I wonder if he just pointed in a random direction to make us go away.”
“I really hope not.” Samson pants. “Because I’m fucking tired.”
However, after about twenty minutes of walking, you start to hear voices. You feel hopeful, but you can’t help the tightening, sick feeling building up in your gut.
What if you can’t trust these people? What if they put a gun to your head and tell you to fuck off? What if they put and gun to your head and just shoot you?
But what are your other options? Neither of you have any idea how to survive on your own. So for now, you just have to hold onto hope that you’ve found a decent group of people.
Before coming into view of the camp, you tell Samson, “Please let me do most—if not all—of the talking.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re stupid and you’ll fuck it up.”
He scoffs, “I’m very charismatic.”
“The leaders of this group are probably going to be grown men.” You say. “Maybe if the leaders are teenage girls, then I’ll let you take over.”
“Pretty sexist of you to assume the leaders are men.” Samson observes in a mocking tone of voice.
“Shut the fuck up.”
Then you see the camp. There are plenty of tents and a few vehicles, and a lot of people.
The first person to notice you standing there is an old man sitting on top of an old RV. He shouts, “Hey, who are you?”
And everyone in sight turns to stare at you. A young man with a full head of dark hair rushes up to you with a gun in his hand. He stands a few feet away and points the gun at your torso. He repeats the old man’s question. “Who are you? What are you doing here?”
You raise your hands to submit and Samson follows suit. You speak loudly so everyone can hear you clearly. “My name is (Y/n), and this is my little brother Samson. We ran into a man in the forest and he told us your camp was up here.”
“What man?” The stranger asks quickly.
“We didn’t get his name.” You explain. “Short hair. Green tank top. He had a crossbow.”
“Daryl.” A few people in the group conclude almost in unison.
The man with the gun questions you more. “Why’d he send you up here?”
You respond, “My brother asked him if he had a group. We’re alone and don’t have anywhere to go.”
“Do you have any weapons?”
“I have a hunting knife in my pocket.” You say. “We have some canned foods and medical supplies. We can be useful; I’m a doctor—a pediatrician. Samson was in nursing school.”
That seems to peak the man’s interest, but he doesn’t lower his gun yet. “Where’d you work?”
“Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. I just started working there last year.”
A skinny woman with long brown hair walks to stand beside the man. She talks to him quietly, “A doctor and nurse? Shane, that’d be amazing to have a doctor on hand.”
Shane lowers his gun and walks toward you with his hand out. “Well it’s nice to meet you, Doc.”
“Something smells stinky.” You smirk, walking up to Daryl. He’s sitting on the ground in front of the creek that runs behind your houses.
Daryl turns his head to look at you, and you can’t help but laugh when you see his red eyes and relaxed expression. He smiles, his eyes squinting and half-lidded. “I’d offer ya some, but it’s gone now.”
You grin and take a seat next to him on the ground. “That’s fine, I guess. I always share with you, but it’s fine that you don’t reciprocate.”
“Shut the hell up.” He scoffs. “It’s payment for all the shit I’m always fixin’ around your house.”
You scoot yourself to sit closer to him, your shoulders now grazing against each other. You laugh a little. “And here I thought you were just being nice to me.”
Daryl flicks the roach into the creek. “I am bein’ nice. I fix your shit way more than you offer me pot.”
“That’s fair.” You say, still smiling. “And speaking of fixing my shit, my sink is leaking.”
Daryl throws his head back and scoffs. “And here I thought you were just comin’ over to say hi.”
“I was!” You exclaim, bumping his shoulder. “You just happened to bring it up and remind me that there’s something wrong with my sink!”
Daryl smiles, suddenly becoming hyper aware of how close you two are. He feels very comfortable around you, which his something he can’t say about most people. The conversations between you always flow so easily. It’s nice having you to talk to. You somehow always put him in a better mood.
After a moment of silence, you make an offer. “If you fix my sink tomorrow, we can go to my house right now and I’ll make brownies.”
Daryl tsks. “I don’t have the munchies yet.”
You grab his hand and stand up, lightly trying to pull Daryl to his feet. “But you will soon!”
He concedes and allows you to pull him up. “Alright.”
You don’t let go of each other’s hands as you walk back to your house.
Full Bloom
No trigger warnings. Back on my fluffy Daryl game.
5424 words.
Daryl was grateful for the fact the sun wasn’t quite as harsh as it had been over the last few weeks, today it was tucked away behind one of the only clouds in the sky and oh my God it felt so nice to breathe a little bit easier, despite the fact the air was still stifling - just slightly less so.
He was also grateful that he woke up before the heat became suffocating with the sunrise. The clammy heat from his bed brought on vivid dreams and sweat-dampened bed sheets that he was thankful to have thrown off in the night, so he made the most of his early awakening by heading out to get a head-start on some possible hunting. Heavy boots and a crossbow added an undesirable weight as he walked through Alexandria, and he instinctually slowed his pace as he walked by your house.
House was the only word for it, it wasn’t a home.
‘Home is where the heart is’ or so you heard, which is why the only place you’d call home was anywhere Daryl was. It was a mutual sentiment - neither of you would say that out loud until the other did first, so it was left unspoken - until one day it wasn’t.
Pairings: Daryl Dixon x reader
Summary: Set in season two, reader is the middle Greene sister. Bold and fiery, she clashes with Daryl Dixon over and over until her father sends her on a run with him to sort out their differences.
Word count: 3650
Warnings: Swearing, minor injury detail
“I ain’t takin’ the damn girl.”
y/n huffed and threw her hands up in exasperation,
“See!” She exclaimed, “Neither of us want this.”
Rick and Hershel looked between each other, tried expressions on both their faces.
“Look,” began Rick, “We can’t be fighting amongst ourselves, you two need to sort it out.”
Daryl grunted and silently resumed sharpening his arrows,
“Nothin’ to sort out.”
Rick shot him a strange look,
“You two argue day and night.”
y/n rolled her eyes,
“That’s cause he’s a dick.” She wryly replied, “Nothing more to it.”
Daryl’s icy eyes shot up to meet hers, angry. y/n glared straight back at him,
“Who the hell do ya think yer talkin’ too, girl?” he snapped at her, standing up.
“You stupid too?” y/n didn’t waver.
“That’s enough!” Hershel raised his voice, cashing the two to stop staring daggers at each other and turn to the elderly man.
“This is my damn farm and I am your father, y/n. There is a little girl missing and I am asking you to get over your little rivalry to find her.”
Silence.
“Think about Carol.” Added Rick.
y/n deliberated for a moment then sighed,
“Fine.” She said, “I’ll grab my knives, wait here country bumpkin.”
“y/n!” Her father scolded.
She lifted her hand as a half-arsed apology as she walked towards the house.
Daryl glared at Rick then angrily swiped up his crossbow and arrows, muttering something about an ‘annoying smartass’. He strode off in a hurry.
“She told you to wait here-” Daryl didn’t slow.
Rick sighed and exchanged a helpless look with his host.
Hershel shrugged, “My daughter’s always been a little difficult, but she’s a good girl, I promise that. If she says she’ll look for the little girl; she will.”
Rick nodded, “So will Daryl.”
The two men watched as the young Greene girl emerged from the house, twin blades strapped to her belt.
She scoured the area and narrowed her eyes, annoyed already at her partner’s disappearance.
“Let’s hope they both return alive.”
Rick laughed.
“I thought I told you to wait over there.”
“Didn’t want to.” Grunted Daryl, walking ahead over y/n.
She twisted her mouth into a frown after him,
They walked in silence for thirty minutes, occasionally yelling out for Sophia. Other than that, they were making no progress.
Eventually, y/n’s curiosity got the best of her,
“What’s in it for you?”
Daryl took his eyes off the tree line,
“What?“ he asked in confusion.
y/n shrugged nonchalantly, “I mean, whaddya have to gain from sticking to a group like this. Kids, people with no weapons experience.”
He grunted, “Could ask the same of you.”
“You could.” Remarked y/n, “But that would be stupid. They’re my family.”
He didn’t respond immediately.
“I’m not the only one; Rick and Shane are also perfectly capable.”
“Rick’s got his wife and kid. As for Shane, he’s dangerous.” Her eyes darkened, “I think he killed Otis.”
For the first time since they met, Daryl looked taken aback and lowered his weapon, staring at her as if he expected an explanation.
y/n cocked her head slightly and narrowed her eyes,
“I’ll tell you why if you let me take a shot.” She offered.
The two stood alone in the forest for a minute as Daryl considered the offer.
Discontent on his face, he strode over to his companion and roughly pushed his crossbow into her hand.
y/n grinned at him and turned, lifting up the weapon.
It was lighter than it looked, she liked the feel of it. Holding it up as Daryl often did, she aimed at a squirrel scuttling across the forest bed.
The arrow zipped silently into the creature.
y/n lowered the bow and twisted around to hand the bow back to Daryl,
“Huh, you better watch your crossbow closely from now on.” A ghost of a smile flickered over her lips.
Daryl held eye contact for a second then drew his weapon back.
y/n soured again,
“Shane gave us this whole bullshit story about heroism and sacrifice then came waltzing back in with a dead man’s gun.” She explained solemnly, “I didn’t tell anyone because, well, I think at this point it’ll just cause chaos.”
y/n bit her cheek, feeling immensely guilty,
“I can’t even look Patricia in the face…”
Daryl silently took in the answer,
“Come on.” He said, tone gentler than usual.
y/n followed.
The pair continued their treck until they came across a large, shallow lake.
The young girl’s eyes widened and she hurried over to the rocky shore.
A small teddy bear lay dirty at the side of the lake. Daryl seemed to recognise it as he gently pulled it out of her hand, amazed.
“Is it hers-”
“Sophia! Sophia!” Yelled out Daryl, spinning around to scour the surroundings, answering her question.
y/n cautiously peered around.
There was no sign of the girl but she knew for a fact that the surrounding area was dangerous. The ground was notoriously uneven and jagged rocks were concealed under mounds of leaves.
“Daryl-”
His crossbow was in hand as he continued moving.
“Daryl!” She called, hurrying to keep up with him.
He ignored her, continuing to skip over rocks and looking around wildly
“Sophia!”
“Daryl! Will you listen to me for a damn second, you absolute prick!” She lost her temper.
He glared over to her,
She huffed, planting herself firmly,
“We need to go the other way, it ain’t safe around here. The ground ain’t steady, it’s too damn easy to slide straight off one of those rocks and break your neck.”
“Like hell I am.” He answered stubbornly, “I just found the girl’s damn doll, I’m going this damn way.”
y/n sighed in frustration,
“You’re no good to her- or anyone for that matter if you’re dead in a ditch somewhere!” She argued.
“So what, we just give up?!” He rebutted, “If you wanna be a damn quitter then just go, I don’t need anyone for this.”
She knew she shouldn’t let him go but some part of him annoyed her so much she just glared at him,
“Fine.” Answered y/n, “Do whatever the hell you want but I ain’t dying with your stupid ass. Die all you want yourself!”
“Fuckin’ bitch!“ he yelled after her.
y/n angrily stomped across the shallow water back in the direction they came from, holding up her middle finger as she walked away.
Huffing, Daryl made his way to the rocky terrain.
y/n began walking her way back to the farm, angrily kicking twigs.
The man infuriated her beyond words. Daryl always knew how to touch her every nerve.
Ever since he shown up at the farm and disregarded just about every rule and value her father had set for the group, she’d been at odds with him.
They damn near had a physical fight when Daryl refused to hand over his gun and she constantly forced him to eat with the rest of them, often ending in shouting matches when he just wanted to be left alone.
Yet, she couldn’t deny that he was a decent man. Grouchy, sure. But he had a good heart.
The girl bit her lip, rethinking her decision to leave the bowman to fend for himself.
y/n groaned and stopped walking.
Reluctantly, she turned around. She couldn’t risk him injuring himself, besides she’d never hear the end of it if she came back alone.
Huffing, she hurried back, carefully testing the ground before she stepped over it.
She tip-toed around the forest for another ten minutes with no Daryl in sight.
Eventually, she came to a small cliff like edge.
Another step forward and she almost earned herself a dangerous drop. The ground almost gave way beneath her and y/n quickly hopped to the side as the dirt crumbled.
y/n cautiously approached the edge and looked over, the drop led to another shallow lake. Scouring below, her eyes widened as she saw something.
Daryl’s crossbow lay on the rocky shore.
Cursing, y/n climbed down as fast as possible without tumbling in herself.
Her feet hit the rocks and she hurried to the abandoned weapon. Picking it up revealed some blood dripping.
“Oh, fuck.” She muttered under her breath, “Please don’t be dead.”
Looking around desperately, her eyes landed on a pair of walkers about fifty metres from her approaching from the tree line.
However, they didn’t take any note of her, instead focusing on something obscured by some big rocks.
y/n raised the crossbow and crouched slightly as she skipped over the stones.
Approaching the walkers, she could finally see what they were fixated on.
Daryl lay near the water, awake but obviously disoriented. Blood soaked his head and side, he was grasping at his abdomen, an arrow sticking out of it.
Just as the walker reached Daryl, y/n let the crossbow fire.
The arrow zipper effortlessly and hit the creature int the head. It dropped immediately, unmoving.
Damn, she was a fucking natural.
Daryl scrambled to turn around and look at his saviour. Clearly drowsy, he squinted at the sight of y/n, disbelief evident on his face as she got closer.
y/n offered him a sarcastic grin,
“Rise and shine sweetheart.” She shot at him, pressing his crossbow into his shaky hands.
Pulling the twin blades from her belt, y/n slashed through the other one effortlessly.
As it ceased snarling, she could hear Daryl panting heavily behind her.
y/n turned, seeing him pulling out the arrow and keel over in pain. Her eyes narrowed,
“Hey!” She ran over to him, “The hell do you think your doing, you’re gonna bleed out. Idiot.”
“Shut.. the hell up.” He still managed to grunt out in pain.
Rolling her eyes, y/n reached for his arm and draped it over her shoulder, trying to pull him up. Daryl stumbled to his feet,
“Ya best…” he began then trailed off again, clearly delirious.
y/n sighed and looked around, getting back up would not be easy.
Daryl leaned heavily on her as they began climbing back up to the path back to the farm. The climb was painfully slow and y/n had her arm looped around Daryl’s waist, ensuring the injured man wouldn’t slip.
“You best shut the hell up.” He slurred randomly as they neared the top.
y/n shot him a look, genuinely concerned.
“Don’t go mental on me now, okay?.” She said lowly and he looked over at her, icy blue eyes squinted at her.
They managed to pull themselves over the final ledge and y/n immediately rolled over onto her back, breathing heavily.
Daryl tried standing up and had to lean on a nearby tree that stay up,
“Yeah!” He yelled no no one, “You better run!”
Groaning, y/n sat up, this was one big nightmare.
“Come on.” She said, dusting herself off, “We’re going back sunshine.”
Wrapping his arm around her shoulder, she was suddenly thankful she almost matched him in height, otherwise they’d have no hope of getting out.
Mumbling, he stumbled with her back the way they came.
It was a much longer journey back but they eventually broke the tree line, revealing the large fields and farmhouse in the distance.
y/n strained under the man’s weight. The sun was starting to set and Daryl’s strength waned.
Shielding her eyes from the setting sunlight, she could make out four figures running over to them.
Recognising Rick and his friends, y/n sighed in relief.
Grimy and tired, she was ready for Daryl to be taken off her hands.
Rick reached them first with his gun outstretched.
“Woah!” She snapped impatiently, “Watch who you raise your damn gun to.”
He dropped it instantly, a smile on his face.
However the relief didn’t last long as a gunshot fired and Daryl completely lost consciousness, falling to the ground beside her.
y/n screamed in shock, then dropped down to look at Daryl,
“Aw man.” She said, panicked, “I didn’t mean it literally when I said you could die! I take it back, you’re not allowed to.”
She gently lifted his hair to reveal the gunshot had only grazed his head, minimal blood in his hair.
y/n could’ve cried.
Rick dropped to his knees beside her, panic in his face melting into relief when he saw the injury wasn’t serious.
Him and Shane carefully lifted him and began carrying him back to the house.
Utterly spent, y/n flopped back onto the grass,
“How the hell ain’t he dead yet.” She muttered to no one in particular.
Naturally, her father had given Daryl her bed. He’s been stitched up and was reportedly doing much better.
y/n hadn’t bothered checking up on him. She knew he probably wouldn’t like her to show up.
Lori and Carol had cooked the group a meal and called everyone to eat together in the dining room. Well, except Daryl who insisted on sulking on his own upstairs.
The dinner was awkward to say the least.
The clanking of utensils on plates was the only sound as Glenn’s attempt of small talk was quickly shut down by her father.
y/n picked at her food in boredom.
Her father peered up at her from across the table,
“y/n, why don’t you take some food up to Daryl and check up on him. I’m sure he’s very grateful for what you did for him, it’s lucky you two didn’t fall together.”
y/n blinked in surprise.
Daryl hadn’t told anyone that she’d abandoned him for a bit which probably led to his accident.
“Uh, okay.”
She stood up and reached for another serving of the food.
Honestly, y/n was glad to leave the dinner. There was obviously some unspoken tension between her family and the new group and she was happy to get out the fray.
She walked up the stairs and towards her room.
Stopping before her door, she considered knocking then disregarded the idea immediately. This was her room, she went and came when she damn well pleased.
Walking in, she could see Daryl with his back to her on her bed. He was shirtless and had a bandaged head, stitches on his side.
He turned when he heard the door creak open.
y/n raised her eyebrows,
“This is depressing.” She remarked lightly and he scowled at her.
Placing the bowl by the nightstand, she wondered if she should even bother going back downstairs.
y/n pursed her lips,
“Can I sit?”
He frowned then turned back around, grunted an unknown answer.
She rolled her eyes but shuffled onto the bed nonetheless, bowl in hand. He grunted again but didn’t move to push her away.
Knees pulled up to her chest, y/n resumed eating dinner, Daryl motionless beside her.
There was a minute of silence.
“Thanks.” Mumbled Daryl out of nowhere.
“What?” Replied y/n, mouth still full. She wondered if she’d heard him right.
“Never mind.”
She quickly placed her bowl on the nightstand and leaned over Daryl’s lying figure, hand on his shoulder. Her face was inches from his.
“No, no, no.” She said with amusement, “Did you just thank me?”
He glared at her, blue eyes narrowing.
“You’re ruinin’ it.”
She laughed and Daryl could feel the breath on his face.
Sighing, she rolled back to sit with her back to the headboard. y/n’s eyes flickered to her night stand drawer.
“Wanna smoke?” She offered,
Daryl stiffened, then slowly rolled over. He grunted in response,
“You allowed?”
“No.”
He shrugged then nodded.
y/n reached and pulled a wrinkled packet out of the drawer with a lighter. She kept them out of Daryl’s reach,
“Only if you sit up and talk like a normal person.”
For a moment he didn’t move then huffed in annoyance and sat up so that their shoulders touched. He winced.
y/n glanced to his stitches and cautiously, reached out her hand to touch them gently.
Daryl flinched and refused to make eye contact.
Her fingers lingered for a second too long then she reached for a cigarette, passing on the packet to the wounded man.
Lighting them, she took a long drag and leaned her head back against the wall
“First time being shot?” she mused.
Slowly he nodded, twisting the cigarette in his hand.
“Ain’t pleasant, is it?”
“Whaddya you know ‘bout it?”
“I got shot once.”
He looked at her in surprise, “Yer kiddin’.”
She lifted her right hand, “Swear honest to god.” She said, “Some farmer’s boy accidentally shot me when I was eleven, scared the shit outta him straight after too. God, the boy was more panicked than I was; crying and apologising whilst I told him to shut the hell up and get help.”
He exhaled sharply in what sounded like a laugh. Then Daryl was silent for a moment,
“Why’d he do it?”
y/n rolled her eyes, “He was holding his daddy’s gun and I told him he was a little bitch who didn’t have the balls to pull it.” She said, “Guess I was wrong.”
The two watched the wall as they smoked silently.
y/n was easily bored.
A grin creeping onto her face, she twisted to face him and cocked her head to the side,
“Let’s play a game.”
He stared at her sceptically.
“A truth for a truth. I ask any question, you answer truthfully. As god is your fuckin’ witness. Then vice-versa.” she smiled, “Come on! It’s not exactly like we have a plethora of activity here.”
Daryl still didn’t respond.
“Fine, I’ll go first.” y/n hit his arm lightly, “Oi, pay attention! Okay, who were you talking too earlier in the woods when you were kinda knocked out.”
For a moment she thought he wouldn’t respond. Then he did,
“My brother Merle.”
“He dead?”
Daryl raised an eyebrow, “I think it’s my turn.” he grunted, “How’d your mother die?”
He searched for a reaction.
“Car accident.” She replied stoically. It’d been a long time since her mother died, y/n was just a kid.
“So, is your brother dead?” She continued.
Daryl shrugged, “Dunno.” he muttered, “He’s an asshole but he ain’t weak. He can take care of himself.”
y/n nodded,
“If he’s anything like you, he’s alive. Dixons seem incredibly hard to kill.”
Daryl shrugged again and looked down,
“How’d ya get these?” He quickly changed the subjects, lifting his cigarette.
y/n smirked, “You’d be surprised how many you can find on runs.”
She took another drag, “Right, my turn again. First love?”
Daryl lifted the cigarette to his mouth then licked his lips. Shifting in his place, he awkwardly rubbed the bandage on his head,
“Don’t got one.” He answered eventually.
y/n turned to him, “You’re shitting me, right?” she laughed, “There’s no way you ain’t ever been in love.”
“I haven’t.” He looked sincere and a bit embarrassed.
y/n sighed, “Well, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. You ain’t missing out on that much.”
He didn’t answer but his icy eyes averted to meet hers, telling her to go on.
“I met this guy at school right, I was fifteen and damn stupid. He was eighteen, a real charming guy. Smooth talker, nice teeth; the whole package.” She explained, “I thought he was the best thing to ever happen to me.”
y/n took another drag,
“Until he hit me clean across the face.” She grimaced at the memory and Daryl looked surprised,
“Ya let ‘im?” He muttered.
She grinned and shook her head, “Hell no. I hit him right back.”
Daryl laughed. Actually laughed, y/n thought she was imagining it.
“Granted I did get my ass kicked and because of that dick my jaw’s permanently fucked up but it was worth not putting up with that shit.”
“Fuckin’ idiot.” Daryl murmured.
y/n smiled at him fondly.
“Why are ya staring at me like that?” He asked, uncomfortable under her gaze. y/n pushed him lightly,
“You’re ruining the moment.” She then yawned,
“I’m tired from carrying your ass around all day, move over.”
Daryl instantly tensed up as she shuffled to take off her jacket and shuffle under the duvet. y/n pulled a face at him,
“What? This is my room, I ain’t sleeping on the floor.”
Daryl didn’t respond and averted his gaze as y/n made herself comfortable, reaching over to kill the light.
The room was blanketed by darkness and all the bowman could hear was the shuffling of duvets. He remained rigid, sitting up. After a moment, y/n spoke up with annoyance,
“You can lie down too.” She snapped, “Don’t sit there like a weirdo.”
Daryl awkwardly cleared his throat and lay down on his back. His shoulder brushed hers on the way down and if possible, he stiffened up even more.
He could hear her breathing and didn’t trust himself to take a breath.
A few more moments of silence before the girl lying beside him huffed again in frustration,
“Daryl.” She said sternly, “Relax for god’s sake, you’re lying there like a plank of damn wood.”
He cleared his throat and tried to untense, rolling over. Daryl could just make out the outline of y/n’s face and could imagine the mixture of annoyance and amusement on her face.
They lay in that position for a few minutes as Daryl began relaxing again, adjusting in the girl’s bed.
y/n had fallen asleep and began softly snoring.
Oddly, the sound comforted Daryl. The moonlight had begun illuminating the room and he could now see face. It was peaceful, no sign of the snarky y/n he knew.
Slowly, he allowed himself to close his eyes.
After another few minutes, y/n turned in her sleep and shuffled until her back brushed his arm. He felt her hair against his cheek.
Daryl considered moving but decided eventually to just stay as he was.
Cautiously, he reached up and brushed her hair softly off his face and onto the pillow.
Daryl allowed himself to relax, y/n still pressed up against him, sound asleep.
Jealousy. Part Two.
Sequel to Jealousy.
Tumblr media
i wanted pt. 2 to be realistic to Daryl’s character, but i also wanted the story to be more fun and lighthearted. so i imagine (y/n) as someone that is good at talking to daryl when he’s upset, and just tries to make light of the situation. also, i’m happy ppl seemed to like part one!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You walk through the parking lot towards Daryl. Merle told you that he stormed out because he’s jealous, and you aren’t sure if you believe that or not.
You and Daryl have flirted off and on in the past, but nothing serious has ever come of it. In fact, Daryl has almost never shown any romantic interest in you. It’s almost always you doing the flirting with him, so you aren’t sure what to think of this situation.
Daryl’s leaning against the fender of his truck. He doesn’t look at you as you approach him, but you ignore it and just smile. “Hey, handsome.”
Before coming outside, you covered yourself up in a hoodie. Daryl looks at you and scoffs, “Aren’t you supposed to be working?”
You shrug and lean against the truck next to him. “I took a fifteen. Some of the other girls are watching my tables.”
Daryl doesn’t respond, so you continue talking with a small laugh. “I made sure one of the girls with big boobs took over Merle’s table.”
He lights a cigarette, but still doesn’t say anything. Daryl knows that if he speaks right now, he’ll say something that’ll hurt your feelings. He’s done that quite a few times in the past, and he always feels guilty afterward. So now he’s choosing to practice the old ‘If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all’.
After sitting in silence for a moment and confirming to yourself that Daryl still isn’t going to speak, you sigh, “This is fine. You know me. I can talk to myself.”
Daryl rolls his eyes and offers you a puff of his cigarette. “What do ya want me to say?”
You shrug, just happy that he’s talking again. “Whatever’s bothering you, I guess.”
He lies, “Nothin’s bothering me.”
Now it’s your turn to roll your eyes. “Liar. You’re obviously not happy that I’m working here.”
Daryl says nothing. What’s he supposed to say?
Yes, obviously he’s pissed off that you’re working here, but what’s the point of telling you that? It’s not like you’re going to quit, so it just seems pointless to discuss.
You continue talking. “You already gotta know I don’t like working here. The men are pigs and it’s totally fucking annoying to deal with, but I’m actually making more money just working here than I did when I was working two jobs.”
This only confirms Daryl’s previous thoughts. He’s never going to be happy about you working here, and you’re not going to quit. So what is there to talk about?
You groan quietly. This conversation is going nowhere. You silently decide to just change the subject.
You stand up straight and move to stand closely in front of Daryl. He looks down at you as you poke him in the chest. “Fine. Be that way; I have to go back inside.”
As Daryl looks down at your finger in the middle of his chest, you quickly brush your hand up to flick him on the nose. You giggle at your own stupid joke and wink at him. “Come back inside. You’re the best looking customer I’ve had. I have to gloat to all of my coworkers about my hot neighbor.”
Daryl swats your hand away and scoffs. “Shut up. I ain’t going back in there just to watch all those assholes talk and look at you like that.”
You smirk. So he is just jealous. How sweet.
Daryl throws his cigarette butt down and puts his hands in his pockets. You smile and take a small step forward, placing your hands on his forearms. “Fine, stay out here. But you have to come over and hang out with me later!”
“Why do I have to do that?” He asks, finally starting to loosen up a little.
“Because I told you to.” You grin, gently squeezing his forearms. “And because I’m making chicken for dinner, and my little brother is staying at a friend’s house. So I don’t wanna eat alone.”
Daryl concedes. “Fine, whatever.”
“Ha ha!” You laugh, then brush your thumb across Daryl’s cheek. “Sweet. I’m going back inside. See ya later!”
As you’re walking away, Daryl shouts out to you, “Tell Merle to hurry the hell up or I’m leavin’ without him!”

Jealousy.
Jealousy. Part Two.
Tumblr media
this takes place about ten years before the apocalypse. i imagine daryl is around 25 and reader is probably 19 or 20, but you can imagine the ages as whatever u want 😌 it means almost nothing to the story. i just saw bunch of young!norman reedus pictures and fell in love lmao
i may make this a series leading up to the apocalypse. idk we’ll see
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Hey, my hands are full. Can you help me carry this to table seven?” Alicia, another server, asks you.
“Yeah. No problem.” You nod. You take a couple of plates off Alicia’s hands and bring it to her table. On your way to the table, you notice some familiar faces sitting down at a booth in your section.
Merle and Daryl have been your neighbors for almost as long as you can remember. They moved in after their previous house burned down.
You can’t help but feel a little embarrassed to let them see you working here. You’re no stranger to tight outfits and short-shorts, but the Hooters uniforms just feel different. You normally don’t dress to be stared at, but here it’s practically your job to be the center of attention for men.
You take a deep breath and compose yourself before going to greet them. Merle notices you before Daryl does. He calls out to you as you walk up to their table. “Well hel-lo, neighbor! Didn’t expect to see you here.”
You smile at him and then Daryl, who also looks surprised to see you. “Yeah. Being stared at all day is kinda awkward, but the tips are good.”
You ignore the way Merle looks up and down your body; you’ve only been here a week, but you’ve already learned it’s a part of the job and you just have to get used to it. Daryl, however, seems uncomfortable and avoids looking at you.
He’s so cute.
Merle grins and winks at Daryl, “Then I guess we’ll have to visit here more often, huh little brother?”
“As long as you tip you can spend all day here for all I care.” You joke. “What do you wanna drink?”
“Just bring us a couple beers darlin’.” Merle orders.
“Alright, I’ll be right back.” You smile. You can practically feel Merle’s eyes on your ass as you walk away.
You ask the bartender to pour you a couple of cheap beers while you check on your other tables.
Daryl discreetly watches you as you walk around and talk to other customers. He rolls his eyes and scoffs. Why do you have to work here of all places?
Merle laughs at him. “What’s wrong, Darlene? I know you ain’t jealous or somethin’.”
“Man, shut up.” Daryl grumbles.
“Hell, I don’t blame ya!” Merle says. “I know I’d never let my girlfriend work at some place like this.”
“She ain’t my girlfriend!” Daryl snaps. “She can do whatever the fuck she wants.”
Merle continues taunting him. “Then I guess you don’t care watchin’ allllllll these men flirt with her and stare at her like she ain’t nothing but a piece of ass n’ titties?”
At that, Daryl stands up and storms outside. Merle simply laughs at him as he walks away.
You go up to Merle with two beers in your hands. You rushed over after you watched Daryl stomp outside. “Hey, is everything okay?”
Merle grins. “Aw it ain’t nothing, darlin’. A little jealousy never hurt anyone.”
