does anyone else always feel like a Child. like whenever I interface with literally anyone outside my immediate friend group I always feel like a 12 year old thrown into adult society and forced to try and adapt with no concept of how to do that. even with people who are younger than me like I will meet a 23 year old and be like yep you're the director of this situation o mature one

i think i understood you, yeah. the pushback part is also real, i feel like a lot of his interesting moments in life series just got completely ignored in favour of whatever characterization a lot of people in fandom gave him, which is. huh. okay then.

i was only fully getting into life series when last life came out and well. after that i kinda also started distancing from life series fandom (not the series itself though) because it was all that bad back then.

and also, while grian is the main target there, it's not like anyone else got really spared either

real real real sorry I have nothing further to add fghjjkk but yeah it's not just him who gets it, he definitely gets it the Worst but it's a really big reason I couldn't 100% jive with the fandom when I was properly into it

no, but fr, everytime i see a random discussion on internet about mischaracterization, I always think about grian (life series especially)

and like, an amount of mischar is going to happen to any character in any fandom, and really it's usually not that bad, but holy shit, when theres such big part of a fandom (i would even say, very often very specific part) that makes me go "he wouldn't fucking say/do that" like 70% of time. its like. damn. (and the amount of analysis posts that are just make me whether we watched the same thing........)

and im not saying that i am without a sin here, but good lord, if the whole thing wasn't one of the reasons i distanced myself from life series fandom (the other reasons are, hilariously, mischaracterization of a bunch of other characters) (hc fandom is kinda fine overall, i just dont have time for it much)

I'm very used to general mischaracterisation, as you say it's a very normal thing in fandom, but it's somehow so incredibly egregious with Grian. I don't know what it is about him that invites it so much. I suppose he's in a position to fit into a specific mould that fandoms particularly like (you understand what I mean by this I hope...) but he doesn't fit into it and actively moves himself against it in many ways. So it seems like there's an even stronger pushback to force him into that 'expected' character type mould to the point where Fanon Grian is a whole new shape entirely.

I enjoyed being in the hc/life series fandoms, and I still dabble in it often, but it just seems that people in the fandoms want it both as a series and with the 'characters' (as much as they are characters) to be something they, most of the time, really are not
