Yeah, so far either these aren't popular enough yet or I've curated my online experience well enough that I haven't really seen much of any of these invade my dash, but every time they do it's a bit...
My first anime was I think Spy x Family actually... although I think I had occasionally seen one or two episodes of Doraemon Chinese dub as a kid, at the time I did not know it was Japanese. Maybe I saw some ghibli movies too I don't remember. Perhaps my lack of exposure to anime as a kid means there's 0 nostalgia factor for me so it's just kinda... ehhh, and I usually end up watching donghua instead if I want to watch something animated.
a few months ago my (also chinese, but they are anime enjoyers and i am not) friends showed me a couple of episodes of apothecary diaries and, i'm ngl, i couldn't handle it. i already cringe when c-dramas do an especially mysterious job depicting "ahistorical" dynastic china, seeing japanese people do it was simply too much for me... everything from the character designs to some of the plot points 雷到我了 alas

Lmao this is so true I fucking hate Lego monkey kid or whatever tf it’s called… I tangentially learned about it because I like journey to the west and I’m considering reading the original text (only read children’s edition) and the little I saw was horrendous what the fuck are these western fans doing to my beloved cultural icon… goku is bad enough. The only Chinese media that has really breached containment in any way is mo Xiang tong xiu‘s three novels + adaptations and mhy games.

I have no opinions on my friends liking it because they are weebs but because of my influence they also have an appreciation for our actual Chinese history and culture. Actually when they showed it to me they said I might hate it lol because even they found some of those elements a bit off putting. The thing is I’m scared that this anime will invade the internet and become popular enough that weebs think it is in any way representative of Chinese history… or even Chinese story tropes surrounding court and harem dramas

Chenyu Vale music is what Liyue music should have been and I stand by that claim. The main Liyue soundtrack is good but in the end it's mostly a orchestra rendition of Chinese-sounding tunes, whereas Chenyu Vale music actually incorporated many Chinese traditional instruments.

I was reviewing some rules of Latin grammar and I was struck at how this brief passage in Wikipedia features sample text with all the highlights of Ancient Rome. We’ve got:
Cicero writing to his friend Atticus, begging him to send any interesting news from Rome
a line discussing bathing in play that was a rip-off of an earlier Greek play
Cato telling the reader the best way to eat cabbage
Martial saying that you should laugh at and flip off anyone who calls you effeminate / implies you are a bottom

"there's something about the dying that feels familiar" fucking unbelievably metal thing to be told. you die and you could swear you've been here before. the last thing you feel before your breath leaves your body is intense deja vu. you've never died before but somehow you know how this goes. you have an uncanny feeling being dead is a temporary gig for you, but you have no idea what gives you that impression. and then you're alive again. and you remember dying. and all you remember is that there was something about it that felt familiar.
