nothing fucks me up more than the idea that at the end of devilman— right as akira is dying—he lays there and he just... has a final moment of clarity, where he can think as akira instead of as devilman, where he briefly remember what's it's like to be himself instead a version of him twisted by rage and revenge. and in that moment what does he do? he tries to confess to ryo—oh. of course. i love you. i've always loved you. it's always been you.

i've talked before about giving the agwell/ghelmar fight to miki and miko instead of akira but honestly i feel like the agwell and ghelmar fight could stand alone from the sirene fight because in the second ova it kind of feels like it drags along. that might be alleviated by splitting the two fights apart and allowing for some time to breathe... i still think miki and miko having that fight and it being when miko bonds with tollg is good though.

but juxtaposing the two would also alleviate some of the weird pacing problems. probably. although it might be best to give each moment it's own time to shine— especially to show off miko's transformation and how that affects her (and to play with the idea that miki knows about the demons and stuff Early On), and akira's first Major demon fight and to give him and ryo's relationship some more expansion... could also do some good to have the 4 of them (or at least miko miki and akira bc ryo is hospitalized) all Converge at some point Before the sirene fight so they can all figure out what da Hell is happening.

having 4 main characters is fun because it's interesting to explore each dynamic between the four of them which i feel like was another part of crybaby that really fell flat. because they tried to make miko a main character but then like... i don't feel like miko interacted with ANYONE? and ryo didn't interact with anyone either but giving ryo and miki stand-alone stories could be REALLY interesting. and ryo and miko! or akira and miko before they go off and do devilman corps stuff!!! it would definitely be cool to know how both of them function in a team setting together, because i feel like they both have such different approaches to their devilman abilities (with akira embracing it vs miko literally begging god to get rid of it). yeah. brain is turning today
