Breaking my silence on the murder scene, because I've seen one too many takes on it that completely miss the point.

I've really spent my time avoiding all mention of it, but I did see this quote of Sam talking about it, and as always he's right.

I've been keeping a closer eye since, and something I haven't seen talked about is how this mental state Lestat is in actually makes the murder so much worse.

It's not romantic, it's horrific.

I think very few people can understand the mentality behind allowing themselves to be murdered, especially by a significant other. The gradual breaking down of walls and self worth. The numbing depression that makes you not care, because at least the pain will end. It's a toxic cycle of abuse, that makes the thought of the suspense ending almost a relief. A final violent breakdown of the relationship that will set you free. And yet in your weird codependent love for your murder you hope they get away with it. That the suffering ends with you, even if deep down you know that's not possible.

And when that confrontation does come, and by chance you do survive it, you are lost. You hadn't planned to be here still and don't know how to move on. It takes ages to build your self worth up again, to pull yourself out kicking and screaming. And even when you do the memory of that feeling never leaves you. It's haunting.

And that is where Lestat is now. In the nothingness in-between.

Please stop saying what happened is less. It's more.
