Healthy Chocolate Shortcake
Thanks to @raq.uelle for helping me name my pastry 😀
I love a good pastry, especially with a coffee or tea. But my stomach and skin aren’t too happy when I eat too much sugar or processed food.
So, I customized this cake to taste light and chocolatey. I didn’t add any additional white sugar. I try to use ingredients that have no sugar added, that have low amounts of sugar in general, no processed…

More than a beauty product
More than a beauty product
Hello everyone! Thanks for taking the time to check out my blog and read my passionate posts about beauty and wellness. Love you all! I love beauty products and natural cosmetics, but Living Libations takes them to another level. When they call a product “Sun Dew Vitamin D Creme” or “Sacred Sage Smudge Forrest Cologne” that is what you get. A spritz of this brings a new uplifting experience to…

Hey guys!! I’m so excited about this post because I’m revealing my first handmade skincare product. I developed this Golden Glacier Drops Serum, which includes the best natural and pure food-grade ingredients for the face.
I Blended them into one light-weight formula that will soothe the skin and most importantly, nourish it naturally. This serum has helped my skin tremendously, so I had to bottle it and tell you all about it so you can get one for yourself 😀
This daily moisturizing serum is for dry blemish prone skin. I developed this because I specifically needed something to protect my skin from the environment, to fight bacteria and to genuinely hydrate my skin in a gentle non-toxic way.
FORMULATING
Two things I really wanted this formula to be was light-weight and simple. I saw results from using simple food-grade products on my face, so I thought, why not blend my own moisturizer with every ingredient I love into one hydrating formula?
I didn’t just throw any natural ingredient or oil into this formula. I took my time testing out different pure ingredients on my face. Especially when choosing an oil. Usually, powerful nourishing concentrated plant extracts come in an oil form and I wanted to incorporate a few into my formula since I can’t distill my own organic plant oils yet. But I learned not all natural organic oils are created equal, even from a molecular standpoint.
Given you’re not allergic, a natural organic butter or oil can still leave the skin on your face more problematic than you expected. Some natural oils are heavier than others on the face, even though they generally all contain nourishing fatty acids.
For example, I know for sure I cannot use pure organic coconut oil on my face as a moisturizer or it will break me out. On my body however coconut oil works nicely. Oils like rose hip oil and olive oil don’t break me out and give me amazing results. Other oils work nice just as a cleanser.
Of course not all nourishing plant extracts come in an oil form. Many pure ingredients have unique natural textures of their own that absorb differently into the skin. This is also the case with various synthetic non-toxic or vegetable derived cosmetic ingredients. But, for this formula I wanted to keep it very simple, unprocessed and fresh. In order to utilize the natural technology in the plant extract as it comes.
INGREDIENTS
There are no preservatives, no heavy oils, waxes or thick butters in Golden Glacier Drops Serum. For this serum I sourced the purest ingredients and the least processed. I don’t heat process the ingredients in order to blend them all together.
The formula is made fresh with pure food-grade organic ingredients, so the serum is meant to last for about a month in the fridge. It works best when you cleanse your skin well before you apply it, and use it daily before bed. This serum doesn’t contain much water other than what’s found naturally in the organic aloe vera plant pulp, which is the main ingredient.
I love aloe vera so much for irritated acne prone skin. Aloe contains a natural form of salicylic acid which naturally unclogs pores. It also contains a variety of fancy natural peptides and enzymes that help repair the skin.
I incorporated pure extra virgin olive oil too because it is surprisingly one of the most nourishing and hydrating ingredients that helps improve the texture of my skin, and very quickly. It contains lots of nourishing vitamins, including vitamin E!
I included Manuka honey which is such a sophisticated skin loving ingredient. It’s so powerfully nourishing and protects my skin from breakouts and environmental damage. It also acts as a mild preservative to the formula because of its powerful antibacterial properties.
The fourth ingredient is 100% rosemary oil. Rosemary is not only so therapeutic to use, but it encourages healthy blood flow to the skin and faster cell turnover. Honestly, there are endless beneficial properties to this incredible herb, it’s a staple in my beauty routine. I even apply it on my scalp for beautiful healthy hair, and I breathe it in when I have a headache or anxiety.
SKIN RESULTS
When you first put on the serum and let it absorb, the skin feels SO soft to the touch. My boyfriend even said to me one day “Wow! your skin looks good and feels soft!” :DDDD!!!
You’ve got to massage it in and it may feel ever so slightly tacky from the Manuka honey in the formula, but it will eventually absorb and it serves as a light protective barrier to the skin.
As for the results I’ve been seeing on my skin. You can see for yourself in these two before pictures and two after pictures below. From the time I started to use my serum moisturizer to a month ago today.
BEFORE PHOTOS
Problem skin without makeup
Problem skin with makeup
(Problem skin: Without makeup & With makeup)
In the first picture I am wearing no makeup and this was two months ago when my skin was doing its worst. As you can tell, in the second image it was even hard to mask with makeup.
AFTER PHOTOS
(No makeup)
I took this picture of myself today after using the serum religiously twice a day for 30 days. This is about how long the serum lasts. It has helped diminish my acne spots, and it has dramatically improved the texture of my skin. Most importantly, it has helped keep my acne under control! I know this because my skin has remained clear ever since. Having consistently clear skin like this is such a relief. Although my skin isn’t perfect, to me this is clear skin, and I’m SO happy now 😀
MY DREAM
Developing a healthy skincare product for myself and people I love has always been a passion of mine. I love using a product that is made with care and attention to detail. I always believed in the powerful nourishing properties in pure organic ingredients, which I believe I inherited from my grandma Elena, who I was named after. She always used fresh organic ingredients from her garden in her diet and on her skin. She had the most flawless complexion and the tiniest waist!
I ordered these awesome bottles with a pump to keep things extra hygienic, and I handmake my own logo too since I love to draw!
I am selling each bottle of Golden Glacier Drops Serum Moisturizer for $20.00 USD and $24.00 Canadian.
If you’d like to order a bottle of my Golden Glacier Drops. email me at [email protected]
If you’d like to review the product and post about it on your Instagram I’ll send it to you for free.
Lots of Love,
Sandra

How exciting are these new natural makeup products, all the way from beautiful Australia! I really can’t say enough good things about this brand. I’m so impressed by their range and can’t wait to try more products by them. I’m always on the hunt for new natural makeup brands out here in Canada. I have to say Australian brands are amazing in terms of authentic vegan, sustainable and all-natural beauty. Their regulations around organic produce alone really reflect in the integrity of their green beauty products.
Ere Perez kindly sent me the new additions to their collection to test out. All in brand new beautiful packaging. And they’ve become a staple in my everyday routine. Just take a look in my handbag! 😀
The most exciting addition has got to be their new Beetroot Cheek+Lip Tint. It’s been fun playing around with different looks using this product. If you’re looking to try a new natural makeup brand check out their website and use my coupon code “happy20” at checkout ❤
The color and pigmentation of the powders don’t let you down
I’ve also been LOVING this Charlotte Tilbury 5 minute face palette I recently got. The color and pigmentation of these powders don’t let you down! I often reach for it when doing a quick look and you’ll truly feel ready for anything with how gorgeous it looks in person and on camera.
How charming are these new accessories too! I’m obsessed with big chunky jewelry.
This is the look I’ve been putting together with my gorgeous new makeup items. They’re so effortless and fun to apply. The colors and cream textures really compliment my skin tone.
This Lip + Cheek Tint is so 60s and glamorous I can’t stop using it. I especially love it on the cheeks ❤ ❤ ❤

Retro Vibes
I really loved styling this outfit. Mainly because I love wearing denim. But, this laid back 40s inspired hair do with my natural curly hair set the vibe of the rest of this look.  I recently bought this top from She In and loved the effortless summer design, I had to get it to enjoy the end of summer.  On my birthday I got this adorable little white bucket bag from Forever 21 and I’m so in love…

Natural & Ethical Makeup
Natural & Ethical Makeup
Lately I’ve had to reduce the amount of makeup I wear on a daily basis because of the negative effects I’ve been seeing in the texture of my skin with conventional makeup products. I’ve noticed these changes particularly under my eyes and on my cheeks where I apply concealer and foundation. So, I stopped applying so much dang concealer under my eyes everyday because I was getting these hideous…

My Favourite Glamorous Lashes
My Favourite Glamorous Lashes
I recently discovered this local Canadian Luxurious Lash brand from Vancouver called “Girls Gone Glam” and fell in love with the styles they make right away. Especially their Chance lash. After applying the Chance lash I was amazed at how flexible the band was, how lightweight they felt and I couldn’t get over the design. I would often make my own with the specific spacing and fluttery effect…

Luxurious Organic Beauty
We’re all familiar with the nourishing qualities in eating good wholesome foods. But growing up I found the cosmetic & skincare industry to be kind of a grey area in terms of transparency. Shouldn’t skincare be made with the same care and purpose to nourish our skin, our largest organ? It never sat right with me that whatever goop was sitting in my foundation or moisturizer bottle was so…

If you are experiencing breakouts. First of all, you need to make sure your skin is as clean as possible and the least irritated. I always feel more comfortable if I can use less makeup on these days as well as treat my spots with either witch-hazel, tea tree oil or alcohol. Only then can you think about applying makeup over it. Try your hardest not to pop your pimple of course, or once you apply makeup over it you will spread the bacteria all over your face and leave a mark for weeks or even a scar.
If you have picked your skin hopefully with clean hands, not using your nails but covered with tissue to press lightly around the spot. If it doesn’t pop leave it alone. Use a Q-tip and dab a bit of alcohol onto it after, then treat with tea tree oil or witch-hazel.
If your spots are deep beneath the skin but very inflamed and have no particular outstanding colour, apply ice on it for 5 minutes and apply some tea tree oil afterwards. Then cover lightly with your regular foundation and make sure to powder it to remove any shiny 3-D effect.
If you have time apply a mint clay mask for 10 minutes (it will extract the remainder of the infection beneath the skin and dry up the blemish and speed up the healing process) then leave your skin bare for the day and out of the sun. If you do go out after you treat your skin, always use an broad spectrum SPF.
Another way to treat lightly blemished skin is to apply the Nature’s Aid healing gel moisturizer with clean hands. This is my latest obsession! It’s so healing and anti- aging I’m amazed. After this, spot conceal with a light liquid foundation if you’re applying makeup.

Current skincare favourites June 2017
I always adjust my skincare routine in the summer because my pores are more prone to getting clogged with sweat mixed with makeup and dirt throughout the day due to the hot humid environment. I make sure and use lighter formulas in my skincare routine and prioritize ingredients that control oil and sweat production on the face. I also focus on using natural antiseptic ingredients as well as…

THE SUNSCREEN BREAKDOWN
A major part of maintaining the integrity of your skin is making sure to not over expose it to the sun. I grew up mostly in Chile, where the ozone layer is the thinnest in the world so the sun’s rays can be extremely damaging to the skin. “Biggest ozone hole over Chile puts southern cities on sunblock alert”…

For ‘normal’ skin and no-makeup-makeup looks make sure to find a foundation that works for your skin type and skin tone. The closest you can match your foundation to your skin tone the less you need to apply and the more natural you will look. Try to apply foundation or concealer only in the areas that need coverage and leave the rest of your skin bare, especially if it’s not problematic. Cream foundations work well for normal to combination skin. You can find them at Bobbi Brown, Anastasia Beverly Hills and Maybelline.
If you have sensitive skin try more natural formulas like the Andalou Naturals Fruit StemCell BB Cream. This BB cream looks particularly good on men! It nourishes your skin while giving you light coverage and a slight tanned glow. Excellent during the summer. If you have blemishes and extremely oily skin use a minty bentonite clay mask before you apply your makeup and it will tone and tighten your pores leaving you matte for more hours in the day. Apply the foundation over clean skin and set with a translucent powder.
If you’re experiencing dry flaky skin Massage your face with some olive oil on clean skin, remove with warm water and cotton rounds. Cleanse then moisturize with the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream for lasting moisture and perfect foundation application. Use a light water based foundation or a light liquid foundation that doesn’t dry to a powder that may cling to your dry spots. This Elf Serum Foundation is good for extremely dry skin. Good foundations for normal to dry skin are the Skin Foundation by Bobbi Brown, Mac Face+Body and the Rimmel Wake-Me-Up Foundation & concealer. This concealer is so light, airy and non-drying.
Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation
Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer
If you’re skin is oily or you need full coverage try the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Foundation, or the Covergirl 3-in-1 Foundation. These are full coverage liquid foundations and have nice staying power and a satin finish because of the multi-purpose formulation.
Covergirl 3-In-1 Foundation
If you have very uneven skin with permanent dark brown marks or scars try the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation for lasting coverage. Moisturize before, then apply the foundation with a sponge for better coverage. For more noticeable pigmentation use the VICHY Dermablend foundation for face and body. XoXo, Sandra
