"The usual, please!"
You looked up from the newest gun you had been working on at your work table and saw your regular customer coming inside your store, smirking like he usually did and leaning against the country to watch you work. He seemed to like watching you worked. You had no idea why, though you must admit that assembling weapons was fun. But you slightly hoped that it's not the actual reason why he's staring.
"Again, Woojin? Didn't you just come here two days ago?" You couldn't help but smile. Seeing Woojin always made your insides warm. His presence never failed to make you feel secure, comfortable, in the underground world full of insecurities you both lived in.
Woojin chuckled and rested his chin on his palm, his elbow propped on the counter, gazing at you so fondly you felt your heartbeat race. "I came here to visit my favorite weapon assembler. How many guns do you have to work on today?"
You counted with your fingers, recalling the customers' requests. "I think three are due on today. Why?"
Dragging a high chair to place it by the counter, Woojin made himself comfortable there. "I'll wait here. I'm taking you out for dinner tonight. You're available, right?"
Your co-worker, who was also your best friend, invited herself to your conversation. "Of course she is!"
You whipped your head to her and glared at her, your face red in embarrassment. Even if she hadn't said that, you would have agreed anyway. She winked at you and offered to take over your job, but you wanted to assemble more guns today, since you liked doing it. You hesitantly glanced at Woojin to ask whether he's fine with waiting. And obviously, he didn't mind watching you work.
Woojin was a member of a big mafia group named Wanna One. As far as you knew, they did illegal weapons trading, selling and buying; Woojin didn't tell you much about them because the organization asked him to keep it secret. And he was assigned to bring unassembled weapons to your store, which was inside the black market alongside the other illegal tradings.
You never knew why you were doing an illegal thing, you kind of just found yourself doing it. You'd been born in the family who worked in the black market, so the underground world was more familiar to you. And after you'd had enough money from helping your parents, you had decided to open your own store with your best friend, who also lived the same shady world.
You met Woojin around four months ago. He often came to your store to deliver the things Wanna One got from recent tradings and picked them up a week later. In the beginning, it was around twice a month. Now, he was almost there once every two days. And most of the times, he didn't bring anything to the store, which made you get your hopes up that he came for you.
"Where are we going?" you asked as Woojin led you away from the shady part of the town and instead, towards the main part of the town where most people gathered. You were confused because he usually brought you to the bar near the black market.
"To places we never went." Woojin smoothly grabbed your hand so you wouldn't be separated from him in the crowded street, your heart beating faster in response to his touch. "Come on!"
Walking together with him in a crowded town seemed like a dream to you. You always wanted to know how it felt to go on a date like people did on tv dramas. Watching those dramas made you envious because you knew it was a life you would never have. Your life would always revolve around illegal tradings, illegal deals, and illegal weapons. Dating in a town like normal people was never a possibility to you. But now, here you were, going on a date like a normal couple did.
Woojin took you to an arcade room, where you played to your heart's content. You found out that the two of you liked the shooting games a lot, but of course, real guns were better. Next, you went to the karaoke box and you couldn't stop laughing because he kept singing funnily to make you laugh. Although, you were totally amazed when he started rapping. Then you went to a book cafe where you could enjoy coffee while reading books. Surely, he dragged you out from the cafe pretty quickly since he couldn't stand the sight of so many books around him.
"Thanks," you said when you and Woojin were sitting down on a bench at a park, eating your ice cream, just like the other couple on the bench a few meters away from you.
Licking his ice cream, Woojin said distractedly, "For what?"
You smiled, reminiscing the things you had done with him today. "For today. For everything."
"You like this?" Woojin lifted his ice cream. "We can do this all the time, you know. If you want to."
You smiled sadly. "That really sounds appealing. But we can't. You have your work. I have mine. And I don't think it's safe for us to lurk in crowded places. What if the police recognize us?"
Woojin winced. "I can't let you go to jail. Who will assemble our weapons then?"
"You can't go to jail too. I don't want to lose my source of income," you teased.
Pouting, he said, "Wow. That hurts. You only see me as your source of income."
You playfully slapped his shoulder. "I was joking, you silly."
The night went on and eventually, Woojin had to go back to work. So your normal date ended here and you returned as the owner of an illegal weapon store in the black market. As you watched Woojin's back going away from you, you wished you and him had ordinary jobs.
***
You were in the middle of assembling some guns when the chaos erupted in the black market. You saw people urgently running away through the glass door of your store. Then you saw your best friend - who just came back from strolling around the market - opened the door hastily and shouted to you, "The police are here! Run, Y/N!"
While you were hesitating whether to bring some of the finished guns or just leave them there, your friend ran out of the store to escape first. Panic, you dashed to follow her, but some police were blocking your way, ready to capture you. Your heart beat raced at the thought of getting locked up behind the bars. You didn't want to go to jail.
Then you saw Woojin walking up behind the police officers and knock them out cold in one strike. Not wasting any more time, he pulled your wrist and dragged you away, out of the black market.
You gasped at the sight of the unconscious policemen on the floor. "You hit the police, Woojin!"
Woojin hurriedly got into his car and urged you to get in as well. He started the engine and quickly drove off. "I don't care. The only one I care about is you."
Heat rapidly rose to your cheeks. You could clearly see how worried he was about you. Thankful, you put your hand on top of his and mumbled sheepishly, "Thanks."
"You've said that last time," he muttered back, his cheeks blushing too.
It was calm and quiet afterwards while Woojin was driving you to somewhere safe. The silence made you think about what happened in the black market. Your smile slowly disappeared from your face as it finally dawned on you that you lost your store and your job.
"What should I do now?" you thought out loud. "I have nothing besides the store."
"You can just come with me," Woojin suggested.
You whipped your head towards him. "What? I'm not cut out to be a notorious mafia gang member."
Chuckling, he said, "I haven't said anything about your position, though."
"Is there anything else to do other than fighting when you join a mafia gang?" You narrowed your eyes sceptically.
"Of course there is," Woojin answered incredulously, as if the answer was obvious. "You will be assigned to do your job according to your specialty. In your case, assembling guns."
At the mention of assembling guns, your eyes lit up. "What? I can assemble guns there too?"
Woojin burst into laughter. "Besides, you'll get to go on a date with me every day, just like the other time. Isn't that a plus?"
You punched his arm playfully, abashed with his remark. "Well, I'm in."
Grinning widely and showing his snaggletooth, Woojin said excitedly, "Great! Then from today onwards, you're our new recruit and also, my new girlfriend."
a/n: I'm so sorry this was rushed because I thought I had to at least post something. Hope this isn't that bad...
