Simple Tips for Rustic-Chic Motifs
If you want to incorporate some rustic-chic elements into your interior or exterior design, here are some easy to follow tips and tricks to consider.
Wood
Perhaps no element says rustic-chic as much as wood. Wood is a fantastic natural element to incorporate because it can instantly add warmth and character to a space. You can keep the finish light or dark, polished or natural. If you really want to go with the more rustic side of design, choose to use the wood in its more natural state with raw edges, bark, and knots allowed to display the true character of the tree.
Wood can be great as furniture, structures, art, or even serving dishes. You could use wooden palates or old wine barrels to create outdoor chairs, or use sections of a log for walkway pavers. The possibilities are endless. A wooden fence in the garden can provide security and style, and an old farmhouse table in the den instantly adds historical charm.
Metal
Metal is another material you will want to use when you choose to go rustic. But instead of using polished chromes and sleek surfaces like more modern looks tend to do, keep the metal rusty, patina, or raw. You can use old pipes to create unique lighting fixtures, paper towel holders, and more. Stay to muted and warm tones with the metal and avoid finishes that are too silvery or shiny.
The great thing about metal is that it lasts for a long time, so you can find amazing vintage pieces at almost any antique store or second hand shop. A metal basket for books, an iron table on the patio, or decorative hanging lamps are all great ways to instantly add the texture and magnetism of metal into a space.
Stone
Last but not least there is stone. One of the easiest places to incorporate this is by letting a natural stone surface be displayed, without trying to cover it up. You can use clear concrete floor sealer to protect the surface but keep the charm in a basement or outdoor lounge area. You could find rough cut stones for garden decor, or use marble accessories in the kitchen. Once again you can play with tones, textures, and shades to achieve the overall esthetic you are looking for.
Another benefit to using clear concrete floor sealer and keeping the material natural is that you won’t have to worry about replacing carpet or chipping paint as the space gets used. Add a few woven throw rugs and your rustic-chic oasis is good to go.
