Hyunsoo looked forward. His eyes glazed over as he did his best to process what Hojung was telling him. His brow folded. “Not all of us are clones, asshole,” Hyunsoo responded. He wasn’t going to listen to what Hojung had to say. Spotlight focused on making stars and relying on what worked. If people got sick, it was likely because they weren’t following the diet properly or figuring out how to manage their weight how the company wanted. To Hyunsoo, it was the trainees obligation to manage this. After all, the company was paying for their lessons. None of them would become stars without their label.

as much as she loved hyunsoo, sometimes sunyi just wanted to kick him in the shin  ––  like when he tried to tell her that either of them needed to following a diet. “hyunsoo, it’s pizza. it’s not going to kill us,” she sighed as she looked back up at him. she had been subjected to some of the same rhetoric spotlight had been feeding him for years, he was just the one that actually believed it, or at least, the one that hadn’t been kicked out. “technically the studio is aidan’s domain, but i still practice as much as i can,” she laughed, “i have to be able to keep up with the other girls.”

Hyunsoo really should take the time to know Sunyi’s members’ names. In his mind, anyone who left Spotlight weren’t that rememberable anyways, or they would soon become unremembered. Opinions he kept to himself, mostly. At the least, it would make his friend happy than referring to their main dancer as ‘the dancer’ and their leader as ‘your leader’, and so on.”You keep just just fine,” he argued back, dropping the subject about the pizza. He will buy her a pizza, but Hyunsoo was going to stand his ground on having any. “Half the time I don’t even notice the other girls on stage because you’re the best of them.”

“you know, a stylist just called me a pocket-sized human, and i can’t say i disagree,” pansaya giggled, looking at the giant sweater she was wearing. “seriously– i look like i’m playing dress up in my mother’s closet. don’t they have any….. extra petite sizes?”

Hyunsoo did his best to keep a straight face. Afterall, someone much higher than him was airing our some insecurities, and he understood her struggle. He was a tree of a person, taller than most of the other male trainees, and finding clothing that fit was a struggle. “Would you like to borrow a pair of my pants sometime?” he joked with a small laugh.

“god, i don’t mean to be rude, but you’re brainwashed. it’s kind of sad,” biyi answered. “no one is throwing anything away. enjoying things that taste good every once in a while isn’t a sin, and the idea that it is is what leads people to binge and purge, or to develop eating disorders. careers are important, but having balance is more important! i really hope you can figure that out, for your own sake. because if you can’t, i’m worried for you.”

Hyunsoo folded his brow. “I don’t have an eating disorder. I can promise that. I follow what my company says I should eat. If they permitted me to eat cake once in a while, I’d eat it once in a while!” he argued back. He crossed his arms. Brainwashed? No. Spotlight had what was best for him. There was no doubt. Why else would people still audition for them and go on to be major pop stars?

hasik shrugged. “no one really has a chance to take care of themselves while promoting,” he explained. “you barely have any time to eat at all, and you’re performing so much that you get shaky and have low blood sugar pretty quick. and depending on the schedule, you’re lucky if you get to sleep at all. most of us nap in cars or on dressing room floors when we can.”

Hyunsoo’s expression fell. A sense of dread began to fill his stomach to the point of feeling sick. He placed a hand on it as he tilted his head in confusion. “I thought the managers and staff were supposed to make sure all of you guys are okay?” he asked, his brow curling more and more as he worded his question.

“so do you repeat the stupid drivel your dietitians feed you to everyone you meet then?” hojung shot back, rolling his eyes. “considering how many of your labelmates collapse due to malnutrition every year, i’m surprised any of you idiots take that shit seriously.” 

“Why are you attacking my company when it is me you had an issue with?” he asked, crossing his arms. Hyunsoo’s face slowly fell into a flat and severe glare. His company knew what was best for him. There were many contributing factors to someone collapsing, not just diet.

a small part of taesuk felt the urge to laugh, however softly, at hyunsoo’s reaction as he watched the boy who towered over him now try to make himself somehow appear smaller.   “   don’t apologize,   ”   he let out a sigh and shook the hair out of his eyes. it wasn’t as though he particularly enjoyed making additional alterations to clothes, but seeing hyunsoo standing a full head taller than most of the other trainees and with his clothes sometimes not fitting seemed to almost undercut how hard he knew the trainee worked.   “   you’re fine, it won’t take much time anyway. besides, don’t you guys have evaluations pretty often ?  you should have pants that fit for that.   ” 

Hyunsoo glanced up from the ground. After practically insulting this staff member, he had expected some sort of reprimand. Yet, Taseuk continued to offer to do his pants. Finding pants that fit in length was difficult, especially nice and trendy ones for evaluations. Hyunsoo wanted to look good for the trainers, hoping that he would be considered for a boy group if they could already imagine him in the latest of fashions (even if his pay as a pizza boy barely allowed it). “I owe you as much pizza as you want for this,” he huffed. “It’s really a life saver, Taesuk-shi.”

hyunjin fixed her brother with a look that said she wasn’t amused. “i’m not dramatic, you’re just rude. and also inconsiderate.” she grinned at him as sweetly as she could manage in an attempt to downplay the insults underlining her words. she followed him out of the spotlight building without any complaining, though a pout was plainly visible on her face. her disappointment quickly sharpened into indignation at his “impression” of her, though, and she smacked him in the chest. “i do not sound like that. and i’d rather starve than even hint at the fact that that statement has any basis in reality,” she huffed.

“Rude and inconsiderate, but I’m letting you cheat on your diet.” Hyunsoo feigned injury after she hit him in the chest. He clutched his shirt, letting out a loud ‘humph’. “How mean! You’re going to hit your only brother, and your twin brother at that?” he teased. He looked down at her, before letting out a sigh. “You don’t sound like that. Your voice is pretty and you’re bound to be a lead or main vocalist someday. Maybe even a rapper! Though,” he said, his eyes twinkling down at her. “I’ll still do an impression of you on variety shows once we debut. Only fair. And you get to share embarrassing stories about me. Would be cute.”

“It is not a cop-out! Mangoes are yummy,” he puffed out. Hyunsoo painted a pout on his lips. He liked the fruits his trainers suggested he had when he was craving something sweet. They weren’t cakes or candies, but they were just as good. “Life is too short to throw away a career over a slice of pizza or some sweets!”

“I never called you fat, I just wasn’t sure if you were a trainee or not since I haven’t seen you around,” Hyunsoo huffed with an eye roll. “I’ve been told I look like a noodle and I’m still on a diet. Diet doesn’t mean fat. Unless you’re calling me fat, then that’s really fucked up.” He crossed his arms, puffing out his chest. “And I haven’t tried the pizza. I can’t put greasy food into my body until debut.”

hasik relented, nodding. he knew better than to insist when someone was offering a favor. it just meant his tip was going to be ridiculously large to make up for it. and honestly, that was better in hasik’s opinion anyway. paying for the meal went to the company. the tip went to hyunsoo. hasik shrugged. “yeah, but this is my last real cheat meal before we start preparing for obsession. i’m gonna not be taking care of myself all too well for the next month or so. this is just my last hurrah before it all starts”

Cheat meals were out of the question for Hyunsoo. Maybe it was different for the debuted idols under Spotlight, but the idea of defying anything the trainers or the staff said was blasphemy to Hyunsoo. He couldn’t even fathom the idea of going against them. But, Hasik wasn’t him and he had warned him twice at this point. “What do you mean you won’t be taking care of yourself very well?” Hyunsoo asked, leaning forward. He was curious about life after debut and what exactly Hasik meant.

taesuk sighed once he heard the trainee’s comment, turning on his heel to look up at him as he spoke.   “   when i said, would you grab me a pizza, i didn’t mean steal it, hyunsoo. they do pay me to work here, you know.   ”   tae chose to ignore the question that the younger man had asked him, but that didn’t keep any of the annoyance from his voice.   “   if you want these pants to actually reach your ankle, i’ll get to it once i’m done with juno’s stuff. and i’d like a pizza, so if you’re going to come back from working to pick them up anyway, i thought it’d be better to tip you than any random other pizza delivery guy.   ”

Hyunsoo felt a bit of heat on his cheeks. He slowly tucked his hands into the pocket of his sweatshirt and looked to the ground like a small child being scolded by their parent. Which only added to the ridiculousness he felt, given his tall stature. “I’m sorry, Taesuk-shi,” he mumbled, keeping his head low. “You don’t have to do my pants if it is going to take too long or mess with your current work. Just hard to find pants that are the right length.”

@rvhyunsoo​ || jiwon couldn’t help but smirk as he spotted his favorite trainee across the room. it was hard not to spot the boy, what with how ridiculously tall he was – taller than jiwon, even. without skipping a beat, he approached the young man, tongue swiping along his bottom lip in anticipation. it was always fun to flirt with hyunsoo and get him flustered; the way his cheeks tinged a shade of pink at the slightest compliment was intoxicating. finally reaching hyunsoo and finding his back turned, jiwon cleared his throat in an attempt to get his attention.

Hyunsoo was always in awe of the older idols, especially the boy groups. He admired them, dreamed of what it was like to be in there shoes. TRAXX was the most glaring example. He was only a kid when the group came out and was a major aspect of him wanting to become a trainee. Jiwon was no exception to this. And the member seemed to give him more attention than other trainees, which made it more nerve wracking to Hyunsoo. He jumped at the sound of a throat being cleared, assuming it to be a staff member, and spun around. Ready for whatever trail of critiques was going to come out of the staff’s mouth, his expression softened when he saw Jiwon. Hyunsoo offered a small bow. “I’m sorry, Jiwon-shi. I didn’t see you there,”he said, feeling the flush pull on his cheeks.

hyunjin pouted, resisting the urge to stick her tongue out at her twin. he had her best interest at heart, but they definitely disagreed on a few things – including the rather restrictive diets spotlight tried to keep them on. hyunjin had a naturally high metabolism, so she didn’t adhere to the diet quite as strictly as some of the other trainees did while still maintaining a ‘satisfactory’ weight. whatever that meant. “you’re so mean to me. are you calling me fat?” she groaned. “what use is it working at a pizza place if you’re not even going to give your favorite and also only twin sister a free pizza every now and again?”

Hyunsoo pressed his lips into a flat line. Hyunjin was really using the fact that she was using the line she always used against him for a simple pizza. And the worst part is that it worked almost every time. Hyunsoo loved his mother and his sister more than anything in the world and, perhaps, the only two things that he cared about more than being a trainee. As he thought, what would be the fun in giving Hyunjin her pizza so easily. “Having more than one twin defeats the purpose of you being my twin,” he huffed, crossing his arms. “I am not mean to you! You’re being so dramatic right now.” He wrapper her arm in his, walking them out of the Spotlight building. With a smirk, Hyunsoo pitched his voice up in a falsetto, “Hyunsoo, who is way cooler than me, Hyunjin, buy me a pizza!”
