Final Presentation Script
Hi, I’m Jay and I’m Ruth. We introduce Foodie Time.
Most students feel that they don’t have enough time to cook for themselves, even though they feel the need to eat healthier food. Students have limited choices of food available on and around Massey campus, such as Tussock, McDonalds, bakeries and pies or sandwiches from petrol stations. Tussock provides a small range of healthy food options but students’ responses were negative. The students we’ve talked to expressed the need for a cheaper, tastier and more accessible food provider on campus. Through survey we found that many students do not eat proper meals especially when they are alone.
Our idea is focused on connecting students and providing affordable, healthy food, right here on our campus. On the basic level, Foodie Time is a cooking club for students who are passionate about cooking. When you join you can learn how to cook a variety of affordable menus and any Massey student can join the club regardless of their level of expertise. But more importantly, Foodie Time also provides a healthy food option for non-club members at a non-profit price to make it affordable for students.
The club has a list of scheduled menus that the members will cook when they gather which will happen twice every week. As the menus are confirmed, they will appear on our app and be available for students to order. They can purchase today’s menu through the app and when they pick up their food, they can choose to stay around and join other students while they eat in a shared space. We’re looking to make this space feel relaxed, sociable and approachable so that students will see it as a place to loosen up and take a break from doing assignments. So ultimately, whether students decide to join the club or simply order through our app, we are bringing students together and they will all get a chance to connect with each other.
We will promote our idea on campus in the form of multiple rhetorical posters. These are aimed specifically at university students in order to catch their attention and give a sense of empathy. The three posters convey different feelings through the colours we’ve used. Purple represents the sickly feeling of rotten food. Green accentuates the feeling of isolation and alienation students may feel when they are around strangers. In contrast, the last poster in the series in orange clearly gives a fun, positive feeling. We have used lose line drawings throughout our design as they help to create an atmosphere that is neither serious nor boring.
When students spot our posters on campus, the link on the posters can lead them to our official Facebook group page that will contain all the information about the concept of Foodie Time including the cooking club itself and the food ordering app. The club members and non-members can openly communicate and share ideas on food menus on this page. Also our Instagram account will be our archive for previous menus that we’ve offered.
This is our app, and I will talk you through the food ordering process. When you first open the app, a welcome page prompts user to join the cooking club. You can login with your existing student ID and password, then you can start ordering. You can view today’s menu, choose a serving size, quantity and payment method. Because I chose the credit card option, I’ll need to put in my details. When the payment is processed, it will tell you where and when to pick up your food. You’ll need to present your QR code on pick up, as it contains your order information. When you pre-order, you can get 20% off your purchase which makes it a sweet deal. To select food you can tap inside the red boxes. Here is the menu for the upcoming two weeks. You can either select all the food or select a couple. You’ll see the discount is already applied. Again, it’ll remind you where and when to pick up your order. After you’ve had your meal, you can rate and review the day’s menu, have your voice heard and also help us improve the quality of our food. Finally, you can set a notification to remind you to pick up your food. Especially when you’ve pre-ordered a few days earlier.
The packaging was made to be recyclable and customizable to show students' uniqueness. We’re using it as another way to promote the cooking club to further encourage students to join in and connect with others through Foodie Time.
Foodie Time is not a business. It exists for students well-being and connectivity. Being funded by MAWSA enable it to be a non-profit system. In order for Foodie Time to operate effectively, we need many students to join our club.
We want you. Join our club.
Thank you.

In Instagram you will be able to view what food has been made by cooking club and students will be able to view information through hashtags under each posts.
We have chose to use facebook and instagram as our platform because we know most of students use it and it is quick and accessible.

Posters on Campus facilities
Tumblr media
This is how it might look like on Campus elevators. When the door is shut you will see ‘miss home food?’ ‘need people to hang out with?’ and when the door opens you will see ‘we want you poster’ with the facebook link underneath.

Packaging: customisable & making a fun experience
Tumblr media
Because we wanted to make a special experience for students we have made customisable band that would go around the food container box so most of the students can have different coloured band with different colour that would be strapped with a customisable sticker.
You can put sticker on the edge of the band and it will hold the band in the right place.
Tumblr media
Here is how the packaging band and the sticker might look like when the food is in the package. Obviously all of the lunch box size would be different (there would be small, medium, large size) and the band can strap it nicely since it is long enough. The dinner box would be given to students with their name on the band which would make them feel special. On the band it has club details as well so when students see the packaging at first time it would act as an advertisement for them and hopefully they will look up facebook to see what Foodie Time is and join the club if they are interested.

Poster development
Tumblr media
First of all when we started drawing the club poster we made customised man to be our main character but because he was freaky looking...(...) we had to change it into more fun and humorous looking guy that everyone would recognise and in this situation we thought it is we want you guy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and 1 more extra poster drawn for the alternative
Donald advised us where to place the facebook links and also the design colouring guide was advised by other friend of us in VCD.

User test prototype: Feedback from guest
Tumblr media
These posters were our previous posters but at the moment everything is cramped up and also because it is small it is hard to read. Also because there are only food on this poster we might have to split into three aspects such as poster advertising club, food, shared eating place so students could see what it is about clearly. At the moment Foodie Time poster just looks like it is made to sell food not for student connections.
Tumblr media
One of the guest speaker on the day also liked the prototype it self but she said to think about Foodie time( cooking club) as a place which provides homely, accessible, cheap and healthy food where people could easily approach and enjoy together.

Student shared eating place opinion
Tumblr media
Basically our whole ‘foodie time’ user journey hasn’t change but instead of making students take away food and go back to their home if they wish they could join foodie time club members in the common area and have dinner together. This way we are able to make them connect and also learn from each other. ‘Instead of running foodie time like a business why not continue to keep that people connection and relationship for the well-being?’.
Student’s feedback was that if common area thing was really happening they would want few long desks so people could sit together and feel like they are part of the group.
Think about winter time as well as thinking about summer time. If it is an outdoor common area it might be a bit cold in winter so look for the common area within the campus.
They wanted more interactive, engaging experience instead of just having a conversation starter because if we have a conversation starter they might just see it and not share questions with people around them.
Think about how we make people engaged .. such as flip calendar, random question cards (would you rather sit on the couch or a chair?).
Think about having interactive table so they could draw on it while they are eating. Maybe it could be a video so they can hear questions and answer them while they are eating?.
By talking to Jay I was able to hear more of user’s perspective. Luckily all of the members liked the idea and they said Tussock sucks because they feel like a business to them and they are not friendly at all. By having a difference to tussock they said this prototype would success. Think about quirky, fun stuff so students can be more into the system that we have.

Thinking about people to people experience
Tumblr media
Thinking about Foodie Time as an opportunity to connect people we have edited our last bit of the system. Instead of making them takeaway food and eat alone at their workplace, home, somewhere around the campus we wanted students who buy the food participate in the shared space that club makes so they can connect with people in this shared space while eating their dinner together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We thought this shared space should be casual, fun looking and engaging so people could easily sit down and feel like they are having a break from the school work.
Also we have thought our prototype should be more organic and casual so people don’t think about Foodie Time as a business instead of the club that exists for students.

What is actual well-being?
After speaking to Tristam I was lost because he said our prototype feels like a business. First of all we didn’t think it is a business because all of the profits go back to students who purchases food but after Tristam’s feed back we had to go back to students in order to find what they really wanted.
Some of the feedbacks that we have got was that students wanted something that made them feel special. Such as…
-They didn’t want prototype that is similar to Tussock
-They said Tussock sucks because it feels like they are just there to sell food
-They wanted personal relationship with the club/ they wanted to be welcomed
-Instead of taking food away they can eat together

Thinking about club advertising
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By other peoples’ feedback we have started to think about club advertising. In this process we have thought about loyalty systems for both students who are purchasing the food and also a reward for students who are in the cooking club. Also for the promotion we have thought about buy 10 get 1 free, 2 For 1 event, clubs day cooking workshop. For advertising we are hoping to make posters and maybe some sort of stickers so students can see it and approach us with the interests.
