UNIT 4 FINAL OUTCOME PROCESS after sampling and refining ideas of my concept I have taken forward machine stitching into recycled waste and rubbish and trapping it within chiffons and further using appliqué to put it onto the t shirt. Practicing free machine stitch was a key element of the front of the t shirt. The baby symbolises innocence. The human race likes to think of themselves as innocent to the problems around landfill and consumerism but we are the forefront. We push these problems to the back of our minds but these are not behind us. Irony of the rubbish being composed on the back of the shirt.

UNIT 14 was one of the first projects of my course (September 2022) with the brief being "to explore textile techniques and processes" and "to come up with 4 Avant Garde accessory designs" Based on a theme of choice. A theme relating to the aesthetics of botanical gardens and earthy features did stand out to me especially as I went along my creative journey. This was a project heavily focused on textile techniques and processes. This allowed me to work with new materials early on within my course establishing a foundation of knowledge while also making it relatable to a brief.

Here is a small selection of work derived from the beginning of my creative journey, sampling and researching different approaches and styles. Exploring a vast number of creative practitioners and materials in the initial stages of my work was crucial into gaining inspiration and new methods which could be contributed towards my final designs. I also reached out to several smaller artists for a deeper understanding on how they use their materials for specific outcomes.

With the botanical theme in mind, I carried out accessory trend forecasting research for 23/24 alongside customer profiling. I came across multiple trends relatable to the earthy approach I had in mind Aswell as multiple trending colour palettes being almost synonymous to those of earth tones and beautiful floral tones. I continued to design and sample immediately after conducting this research to explore how I could tailor to this information more correctly. My demographic was also ages 16-25 with an ethos and conscious for sustainability therefore I made that a forefront in my sampling and overall concept.

After feedback from my initial designs, I started to become more explorative in the materials I was using to create. this flourish was also reflected in how I was designing as I was trying a more mixed media approach, painting, using oil pastels, scanning in items etc. I was sourcing natural materials such as the early autumn leaves outside, trapping its properties within PVA glue and applying it onto fabrics. This selection of materials was also to echo the ethos on sustainability.

Further evidence of abstract and eco- friendly materials being used selectively. One of my favourite samples was this yellow flower I made from cutting up used rubber gloves which were alternatively being discarded.

The 4 "Avant Garde Accessory" Design outcomes. Each design board i presented to a group explaining the thought process of each design and why it is relatable to the brief. I feel as if this starting project was a beautiful way to start my course as it gave me diversity and an opportunity to test my skillset and deeply enjoy it.

UNIT 15 "Sew it yourself kit" was another project from the earlier parts of my course which focused more heavily on the construction and garment making side of my course. The brief was "to choose an online retailer to work with and create a pattern sleeve for their brand".

Here is a selection of my initial research at the start of the project. Identifying trends colour, pattern, shape, fabrics etc alongside customer profiling (S/S23/24) was the first act of research I decided to carry out using respectable forecasting websites such as WGSN.com Multiple trends surrounding vintage clothing and 60s/70s styles and shape repeatedly appeared within my research therefore I decided to explore further into this which would in turn become the forefront aesthetic of my project.

Customer profiling board to help stay on track to the brief. I decided to design my pattern sleeve for a small online retailer called "The Hippie Shake" as I felt their overarching 60s/70s theme alongside their prominent ethos and beliefs on reducing fast fashion and waste fabrics/ packaging aligned perfectly with my customer profiling and my trend research.

After my initial designing and the feedback from the "initial feedback questionnaire" I created I have decided to sketch my develop designs more tailored to the responses of the questionnaire responses. My Construction skills also came into play from my designs as I did a variety of sampling to ensure the construction (such as seams/hems/zips) would work with the desired fabrics.

Here are more samples derived from both my designing and my manufacturing book. Alongside the pattern sleeve and researching, I created two sketchbooks devoted solely to 'fabrics and their fibres' and 'manufacturing techniques'. My fabrics sketchbook included swatches of all types of manmade to natural fibred fabrics. Each of these sketchbooks I produced worked as a guide besides me while working hands on in the studio therefore I was able to make a guided choice on the correct fabrics and methods.

After sampling for my final design and choosing the correct breathable fabrics, i used a pattern block to manipulate and re shape on construction paper to make the pattern which i eventually used to create the mini dress. To reduce the risk of the pattern being incorrect i created a toile to check the fitting on the body was right.
