Ruby made an attempt to talk, but only managed a groan, which quickly turned into a cough. She winced as Jaune removed the knife. After a few moments of coughing, Ruby managed to weakly hold up a finger to indicate she needed a moment.

She considered the rabbit faunus' words in silence. Ruby wouldn't exactly call looking for a lost scroll a mission, but she couldn't deny that Velvet did have a valid point. Plus it would take her a long time to find the scroll all by herself.
"Not that I think I can't do this alone, but I guess for the sake of efficiency, I could probably use some help. So you know, if you wanted to come, I wouldn't say no."

Ruby eyes the older huntress in silence for a moment. She isn’t sure how to feel about Velvet letting her go into a grimm infested forest so easily. On the one hand, Velvet said she trusts her, which normally she’d be thrilled to hear, however Ruby had expected more of a fuss.
“You’re okay with me going then? Alone?”
Truth be told, Velvet hated the idea of Ruby going off alone. She was younger than everyone else, and seemed eager to prove herself. But she didn’t want to be overbearing - not like, she assumed, the girl’s sister was. She couldn’t help but feel reminded of how she herself was when she first came to Beacon, and she didn’t want Ruby to make the same mistakes.
“I… Honestly don’t think you should be going on solo missions just yet. You still have a lot to learn, and you would be a lot safer taking someone with you. But, um… It’s your decision, in the end.”

Velvet tries to hide a soft frown.
Of course, she knew that the younger girl was capable of protecting herself. Everyone had been watching the first years’ initiation. But even so, things could quickly go wrong during missions - this she knew firsthand. One could say they would be careful, but just the slightest slip up could get someone hurt.
Either way, the Faunus smiles weakly and nods her head.
“I trust you, Ruby. Just be careful, okay?”
