When I wrote "Redemption or Something Like It", I swore this was just going to be a little tangent to take a break from my main manuscript. Then "First Lessons" happened, and I dared to make a continuation, which I swore would only be 8 or so chapters.

...Now we're over 50 chapters later, and lord only knows how many left as the count keeps changing in edits (sorry Rhaya, I'll get to your story... soonish).

I'm so moved by how much love there is for this story! I cannot stress enough how much it means to me to see artists and writers put pen to canvas and keyboard, all because of these two idiots and a silly little game that was always a little more than either of them thought it was.

In addition to writing and drawing, I've also found out that a fan has also picked up a microphone and started a readthrough for the Riddle of Magic series. What?! Amazing!

Riddle Of Magic thoughts

⚠️ Spoilers ⚠️

So, this is just something I've been thinking about for awhile. Now that I've finished Chapter 15, no spoilers please, I wanna talk about it.

The way Charlie writes the magic is very telling and thought out well. It tells where they are in the story in a great way you don't notice right away.

Invocation drawn as Lock-

Both Alastor and Charlie are locking off their romantic inclinations for each other, not wanting to accept it themselves. The two do stay there for awhile, bringing me to my next point.

Ward drawn as Barrier-

Because Charlie doesn't draw it like that until her fifth attempt, the fact it's like that represents mostly Alastor's turn. The barrier in his mind blocking off his feelings for her is broken. He knows how he feels now. And Charlie to a lesser extent.

Transfer as Give-

Alastor has already said he'd give himself to her, his soul was hers. But the same can be said for Charlie. She almost kissed him in Chapter 15. She's starting to give in to her feelings.

That's all I got for now, but I can't wait to read more. I'll add on as I go on. If anyone else wants to add stuff, please put what chapter at the top and so it through reblog so I can avoid spoilers.

Something that I found weird IS how much Charlastor content we got. Don't get me wrong as a shipper, I'm not upset. I was very happy in fact. However, the fact that this fanon ship. This ship that will never be canon unless Viv has a complete change of mind got all of these shippy esque moments while the actual canon ship, Chaggie got virtually nothing is wild. Chaggie isn't my ship, I don't dislike it, I just don't find it interesting, but if I was a shipper I'd be pissed. How the hell are they canon but got scraps basically. It felt like Viv wanted to make a queer ship just for the sake of representation and not because she actually cares about it. Maybe things will be different in season 2 but just off of season 1, she doesn't care about Chaggie and the writing showed. I might be a charlastor shipper but I can put my shipping goggles to the side and acknowledge it's fucked up how this lesbian ship hasn't gotten the proper care and attention it deserved. I can't help but imagine how disappointing it must be to bi and lesbian watchers to think they were finally getting representation and this is how it was handled. Hell, if anything from all the charlastor content we got, I'm inclined to believe that some of the writers are lowkey Charlastor shippers with the material we were getting. Again, I was very happy to see it but at the same time, why did a ship that'll never happen get a lot of content. That's a lot of time dedicated to a fanon ship instead of the canon one. I wonder what went on in that writers room.

Yeah, we all in the fandom felt this. I’m not against Chaggie. I like both characters…but together they brought nothing. Is it the writing or Viv? I don’t know, but I will say this—Amazon is already alluding to Alastor being the leading man, so who knows exactly?

Hi there! I'm new to the Hazbin Hotel fandom and was looking for Charlie/Alastor fics but I'm not sure where to start so I was wondering if you could rec some? Thank you🥰

OHHHHHHH!!! Welcome, first of all!

You’re in for such a treat. First and FOREMOST, Riddle of Magic by @rubyfoxfyre. It is ongoing but that fic is just magnificent. That one started before the show came out so some things are a lot different than in the show, but honestly, it’s fantastic. It is set in Hell and follows Charlie and Alastor as Alastor teaches Charlie some of his magic before he asks her the Riddle of Magic. I’m not saying anything else, just read it. So good.

Another great one is Beneath the Mask by @bathsaltsmcgee. That one is set in Louisiana with a Human!Alastor and demon!Charlie. Alastor summoned Charlie to help with solving a series of murders and catching a killer, and it is so so so good. This one is also ongoing.

Those are two really big fics but depending on how fast you read will take you some time.

I also highly recommend Penance by @kinkydents . It is ongoing and excellent but also a lot darker, and an AU as well in some aspects. Lucifer has tasked Charlie with proving her rehabilitation program works by rehabilitating an “Exile” and she just so happens to pick Alastor. I love the way they write Alastor in this fic, he’s a lot more unhinged.

Smiling Man is also very very good. It is by MuseValentine on AO3, and it follows HumanAlastor and Charlie where Alastor is a serial killer in Louisiana who has set his sights on Charlie, his new next door neighbor who is trying to open a rehabilitation hotel. This one is completed and it is not a happy ending, it is very bittersweet but it is very realistic for the couple.

Following up with that is also The Taxidermist by Angelus19 on AO3. That one is mostly completed, the Epilogue was never translated and posted as far as I can tell. Beautiful fic. That one is also a human Charlie and Alastor, and a serial killer known as the Vigilante is plaguing Louisiana. I shall say no more on that one.

There is also Just Roll With It by @hazbinstohell , which is a really fun fanfic where Alastor and Charlie have somehow managed to put off the next Exterminatiom Day because Adam is really into weddings. It’s so much fun and is a good read! It’s ongoing as well.

Oh! And The Devil take the Hindmost by @praytriarchy !! This one also features a human!Alastor that has made a deal with demon!Charlie. It is very well written and ongoing, it’s a treat to read!! Charlie is trying to learn about humans for her rehab project and Alastor wants power, simply put but his motivations are never simple. It’s really good so far.

I’m also writing my own fic called Rings of Id in AO3, it’s got 3 chapters so far but the concept is that Charlie, as Princess of Hell, can break contracts forged by her people. Somehow Alastor finds out and comes knocking on her door because she just broke one of HIS contracts. It doesn’t strictly follow canon but if you happen to read it let me know what you think! I’m writing the next chapter now and should be out sometime this week.

I think I just threw a LOT at you haha. There are a lot of really good fics out there and I KNOW I forgot quite a few.

To be honest with you nonny I just joined the fandom fairly recently too, so I hope you enjoy your stay just as much as I have! Word of advice, sometimes people can be mean when it comes to RadioBelle. Just ignore them and enjoy yourself and what you like, absolutely no one has any say what you are allowed to enjoy.

Edit to add: all of these fics can be found on AO3 and I realized when I reread it sounded like only a few were lol. My bad.
