When they see us
One of the hardest shows I’ve ever watched. 4 episodes. 4. I had to stop watching multiple times! This show takes you on an emotional roller coaster. Please watch. Please. These stories. These stories about these kids! CHILDREN! They just wanted to hang out and their lives were ruined forever. Protect our black boys! Love our black boys! Teach our black boys! Central Park 5 took place in 1989. We’re still fighting in 2019! PROTECT OUR BLACK BOYS! LOVE OUR BLACK BOYS! TEACH OUR BLACK BOYS! LET BLACK BOYS BE CHILDREN!
Ava DuVernay you did that!

#CancelLindaFairstein: Social Media At Its Best
Tumblr media
Linda Fairstein the prosecutor of the Central Park Five case is feeling the heat for her racist prosecution of five black and brown boys after the release of Ava DuVernays jaw-dropping Netflix series, “When They See Us.” Fairstein, who was head of the Manhattan Sex Crimes Unit in 1989, destroyed the lives of five teenagers by sending them to jail for a heinous crime the New York Police Department fabricated against them.
Following the release of DuVernay’s series, social media lit up protesting the prejudice and injustice these children faced at the time. Almost immediately Fairstein’s social media outlets were flooded with the hashtag #CancelLindaFairstein. Since then she has removed all of her accounts and people are still not letting up questioning why she herself has not been prosecuted for her actions.
Tumblr media
In the years following the falsified case, Fairstein, portrayed by Felicity Huffman in the series, published multiple books while innocent children suffered in lock-up. Book publisher Simon & Schuster also received request to drop the controversy entrenched Fairstein under the hashtag #BoycottSimonSchuster.
Tumblr media
Ironically to this day, Linda Fairstein amid all facts believes she was correct in the case and shows no remorse.  Not only that, she attempted to control how she was portrayed on screen. In an interview with the Daily Beast, Ava DuVernay explained, “Linda Fairstein actually tried to negotiate. I don’t know if I’ve told anyone this, but she tried to negotiate conditions for her to speak with me, including approvals over the script.” Luckily the Oscar-nominated Ava DuVernay declined Fairstein’s request for white privilege.
Tumblr media
Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise all deserved better and received the absolute worse at the hands of lairs sworn to protect the very people they incriminated! Listen Linda… (in my best hispanic child voice)…take a seat!

I urge everyone to watch the “When They See Us” miniseries on Netflix. It’s about one Hispanic and four Black teenagers that were wrongfully and falsely accused of brutally raping a white woman in Central Park, New York City. They ended up serving years in prison and for what? Something they hadn’t done. This happens to POC all the time but in the end, the truth always comes out but the damage and pain can never be taken back. Please have a watch, it’s so important to have discussions of incidents and topics like such especially because they are sensitive and so close to home.

White people should stop saying
“All Lives Matter”
-All lives would include Black lives and black lives have been historically disenfranchised economically, educationally, environmentally, psychologically ect. That still affect us contemporarily. Not to mention countless other non-black pic lives. All lives do not matter, like white lives.
“That was a long time ago”
-Black people have been enslaved longer than we have been free, and it is still to this stay legal to own slaves. It’s covert. It’s called prison. Read the 13th amendment.
“Reverse racism is real”
-There are not enough Black prosecutors, judges or police officers in our justice system to mass incarcerate innocent white people, wrongfully convict them, or give them sentences that don’t match the crime.
“Go back to Africa”
- Saying if we don’t like it then we should leave, admits that you are aware of these issues but not interested in fixing trying to change it. And y’all are over there doing the exact same shit there too.
“What about Black on Black crime?”
-We are talking about the injustices of devalued Black lives. When Black people kill Black people they are brought to justice. When white people kill Black people, they are not. Stop changing the subject.
Bonus
African-American?
-African American is the ethnicity of Black people born in the U.S. There are tons of Caribbean, Latin and African people in this country who deal with the same shit we do because they’re Black, not African-American. So when talking about us as a whole, say Black people. It making YOU uncomfortable don’t mean shit to us. We Black.

may 21 will mark the 40th anniversary of the white night riots that took place in san francisco in 1979 after dan white was sentenced to just 8 years in prison for the murder of mayor george moscone and supervisor harvey milk.
by the turn of the 1970’s, the castro district of san francisco had become a queer & trans utopia that provided a sense of sexual freedom, liberation, and self-realization. however, both local and national anti-gay legislation & sentiments were threatening that paradise.
Tumblr media
in 1977, miss america runner-up & florida citrus orange juice queen” lead a successful “save our children” campaign to overturn a dade county ordinance prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation. that win launched a nat’l movement against the lgbtq community.
Tumblr media
in 1978, harvey milk, the first out gay man to be elected to public office in CA, helped to get a non-discrimination ordinance signed in to SF law & was integral in mobilizing lgbtq folks and allies to shut down a statewide bill to ban gay teachers.
former cop dan white, who was elected to the SF board of supervisors the same time as harvey, was the only board member to vote against the non-discrimination bill. embarrassed and angered that his own bills failed, white resigned from his position on november 10, 1978.
Tumblr media
in the following weeks, white reconsidered his decision and asked to be reappointed to his position. after being told during a radio interview that another person would be appointed to the board in his place, dan white set out to punish those he felt had humiliated him.
on the morning of november 27, 1978, dan white snuck into city hall through a side window & with a loaded 38 caliber smith & wesson,  and traveled to city hall. walked into the office of mayor george moscone, an ally of harvey’s & shot him 4 times, 2 shots to the head.
youtube
as dan white rushed through the hall searching harvey milk, he stop to reload his gun. when he found harvey down the hall, white shot harvey 5 times, two times in the head. the murders shocked an already devastated city who that just beginning to process the jonestown massacre.
in may of 1979, white was tried for 2 counts of 1st degree murder. however, the mostly older white & working class jury delivered a guilty verdict of voluntary manslaughter w/ sentence of just 8 yrs. for gay community, this was further proof that the justice system was anti-gay.
Tumblr media
thousands marched to city hall to protest the verdict. some held signs that read, “pity for the privilege, death penalty for the poor” and “white(s) get away with murder.” as the crowd grew, the pain and disappointment quickly turned into collective rage.
outnumbered by the gays, cops retreated as the gays rioted at city hall breaking windows. when things subsided, folks headed back to the castro district. in retaliation, police descended onto the castro and invaded a gay bar later that night.
Tumblr media
police violently struck gay patrons. still filled with complete fury and disdain of the police state and justice system, the gays fought back and set police cars on fire. by the end of the night, dozens of police cars were set ablaze and 20 people were arrested.
the white night riots are an important chapter in queer history. on the night of may 21, 1979, the san francisco gays challenged the police state and defended themselves from police violence. they set the city on fire.
Tumblr media
the following san francisco pride, marchers held signs that read “lesbians against police violence” & “end police violence.” cops were seen as a threat to queer liberation. later that year, in november of 1979, close to 100,000 people marched in support gay rights in DC.
Tumblr media
the white night riots signaled a continued a trans & queer revolution that was ignited during the stonewall uprising 10 years earlier. pride marches were political and even more so just two years later when the aids epidemic began its assault on the queer community
sadly, in many ways, the aids epidemic truncated the revolution that we were on the brink of by stealing the lives of those who knew our liberation could never be realized under the police state.
BAN POLICE FROM PRIDE!
Tumblr media
this pride season, may we all remember that the first pride was a riot. every culture shift for our basic human rights have been because of riots and direct actions. this year, honor black and brown trans women who rioted for us. remember the white night rioters by banning police
