is the roleplay community dying out or smth? i try putting ads out for fandoms that are pretty popular rn and i hardly get any hits, or when i /do/ get hits, i wound up getting ghosted before we even make it through the plotting stage. like wtf is going on? is it just me that’s the problem?

When you have a huge hyperfixation and you wanna rp it but no one is interested or ghosts you after like - 2 messages in...even trying ur ad on popular blogs but no one reaches out to you :’)

I think the key to a long lasting rp is to build a relationship OUTSIDE of the roleplay. Become friends with your partners, have some common interests outside of the rp. One partner of mine has been around for nearly five years, we talk almost every day about our daily lives and other things we enjoy. Don't center the entire chat about the roleplay, or else it'll grow stale.

You can either have:

A partner that is literate enough to communicate ideas, is creative, and can come up with a good plot with you, but can only put out a maximum of two replies before they start ‘having life events’, which will culminate in an endless string of excuses until they ghost you.

A partner that will consistently contact you and consistently reply but with >3 sentences each with grammar that would make an English teacher implode, with creativity liken to a half-eaten jar of peanut butter.

There is no in between.

I finally convinced someone to do an alt-history scene with me and I was only able to get two responses out of them before they ghosted me. It would have been cool if it didn’t take a month to develop the scene in the first place. I am so jaded. AI person was right. The roleplaying community needs to shape up before they make themselves obsolete.

I hit the jackpot y'all. The holy grail. My partner is writing the most incredible bottom I've ever written against. Their writing, the characterisation, the dynamic, all of it is so insanely good and I'm just trying to keep up. Bottoms do not have to be lame and boring and one dimensional!! It does not take that much effort to add some personality and make the bottom fun! I'm in absolute awe. I've never wanted to write a top more just so I can write against their character. Bless you partner you've saved me.

Maybe try getting emotional involvement? You're supposed to feel something while you write, otherwise just play tennis against a wall

(Roleplaying may not be worth anything anymore. People have stripped my joy from doing this most days and don't care how they treat me, lie to me, etc, which is effecting me)

Don't like ads which ask for active consisent replies each day if you can't do it, also unpopular opinion if you can't do basic communication at all maybe don't roleplay because it would save me and thousands of other roleplayers time

There's a word for it and it's 'squick'. If something squicks you, it isn't your cup of it and you don't want to interact. And that's it.

No mental health connotations. No moral judgment. I like the word squick so much (in a roleplay context). I wish more people used it.
