the trio should all have their own respective injuries/issues so thats why im opting to break bobby swifts sternum and multiple ribs in a wreck 👍

like its a ROUGH injury. 3 or more months to heal, i can imagine bobby going stir crazy not being able to drive but cal and lightning make sure to include him in their celebrations whenever they win

he’ll be at the track for every race, RSN hires him as a temporary guest pit reporter, and he gets to goof around with his friends even if laughing makes it feel like someones stabbing him in the chest . i can imagine there are pictures out there of bobby and lightning or bobby and cal standing beside a trophy together (they won it together) (technically they didnt but the bromance is Strong) (they just Act That Way. 100% theres a photo of lightning goofing around and holding bobbys side like theyre in a romance)

lightnings love language is 100% quality time and here is why you should agree

- salqueen resting at home, late in the evening, hes listening to music and shes doing paperwork — he can take off his headphones and put them on her whenever he hears a song that reminds him of her

- lightning learning sallys hobbies so he can spend time with her doing stuff like baking — aka he sits down on the counter and watches with fascination and adoration in his eyes

- hes not as prone to overstimulation when sally needs physical affection (her love language is physical touch) because they respect each others boundaries and giving him Space makes him more lovey-dovey

- just them laying in bed or laying in a field talking for hours on end about Life and about Each other

- them going on walks out into the desert to look for fun little rocks and stuff, basking in each others presence

- picnics at the wheel well motel where they just playfully poke fun at one another and talk about how amazing it would be to renovate the motel; what they would change and what they would turn it into

- theyre more open and its easier to talk to one another, theyre so comfortable hearing each others voices that talking about literally Anything is possible; they know one another better than any other person in the world

this is only a few reasons… i fear i cant spoil much though :3

What do you think she likes most about Radiator Springs? Who do you think are her closest friends there?

OUUUHHH..

im not sure if shes too in depth with radiator springs. i think she probably still lives at home in texas and only visits radiator springs once in a while - but her favourite part is the racing museum with information on all the drivers her grandfather loved. she gets to learn more about what aspect of the sport he liked through the history of the people he loved watching on tv, and she feels more connected to him, even if she didnt know him long. sometimes she wonders if he’d be proud of her, if he’d be amazed at how far shes come — a female, latina driver in the top ranks of the sport he got her into — and sometimes she distantly thinks about how amazing it would be to be able to show him her success, to get him tickets to one of those big races he promised to take her to one day..

out of the citizens, shes 100% closest to lightning and sally. shes like the child they never had. otherwise, she probably really adores red and LOVES the flowers he’s planted — his plant knowledge is something she could only dream about having. she already knows a little bit of sign language, shes super well educated like that, so she can have short conversations in sign with red and shes managed to bring a new kind of energy to those conversations that not even RED knew was possible — and hes the one who grew up using sign!

Here is an ask about the three musketeers ( Bobby, Cal and Lightning).

What do you think was the first prank they all pulled on each other?

OOOHHHH thats a hard one..

i feel like they were all super awkward around one another (lightning and his goofy ass never having friends, cal just being Cal, and bobby not really knowing how interact with either of these goofs)

but, bobby is 100% the first person to make a move.

its what begins his tradition of pouring water on the other two after races.

its sunny, hot, the race is over and all the drivers who didnt make it to victory lane are catching their breaths — hell, even the driver who DID make it to victory lane is struggling to stay upright. of course, its lightning.

bobby squeezes through the crowd — he himself is already soaked, a mixture of sweat, water, gatorade, maybe tears (joke) making him insanely uncomfortable — and unfortunately for lightning? he made the mistake of sitting down on the ground, back against his car, his hair is brushed out of his eyes and greasy with sweat, and hes too distracted by a kori with a mic and a cameraman to notice bobby sneaking his way into victory lane with a full bottle of freezing cold water in his hand.

its a miracle he could get in there as easily as he did, and he walks around to the far side of the car, uncapping the bottle as he does so.

and, as quickly as possible, he leans over the hood of the car and overturns the bottle right on top of him, emptying the contents and ditching the plastic bottle there to make a run for the crowd.

lightning kind of sits there Stunned for a minute before he quickly tells kori he has something to do, and promptly stands up and chases after him (hes now shivering, because all the sweat inside his firesuit, trapped to his undershirt, has turned Cold and his hat is Soaking wet and his hair is Wet Cold and its TERRIBLE.

he catches bobby in the pits where he playfully tackles him (although it doesnt do much considering lightning is 5’6 and scrawny, and bobby is 6’1 and built Relatively nicely). lightning swears hes gonna get him back, and sure enough, that next weekend while bobby is in the middle of an interview? lightning does a pie-by, slamming a pie into bobbys face and ditching the stage as fast as humanly possible .

it kind of crates a little circle of the trio doing this Specific type of prank on each other, and bobbys by far lasts the longest

What do you think of the headcanon (I have no idea where I saw it first but it isn’t mine) that despise his arranging attitude in cars 1 Lightning is the only Piston cup racer who hasn’t done anything problematic enough to be cancelled (yet)

honestly, i think its impossible

first, cancellation isnt really a thing in nascar unless a driver did something like. a literal crime. but rather, every driver has haters, and every driver makes mistakes

race fans tend to find a lot of things problematic, they even like to add it onto their pile of reasons to hate a driver even if its the tiniest of things — so, in this case, lightning most definitely has some haters and “problematic behaviours”. even cal and bobby would have their moments

i’ll use an example from real life and say that being the most popular driver (which is probably extremely easy to achieve for lightning every awards season) definitely has gained him some people who’d like to see him crash head on into a wall (if you see the way every chase elliott hater treats him, you’ll understand what i mean)

but, also, lightning has anger issues. anger issues and racecars dont typically mix well, without a doubt lightning has acted on his angry impulses and retaliated against another driver for something irritating. this would gain him either a suspension or a penalty (most likely a suspension for a few races), and a brand new group of people who hate his guts. it’d be used as something problematic because safety, sportsmanship, and emotional maturity is something that a lot of race fans look for.

all of these things added up would probably make lightning a controversial — has a lot of fans, but a fair amount of haters who are quite passionate about it — driver for most.

his attitude in cars 1 before the tie breaker race probably made him have less fans, maybe a few stuck along for the ride just because they would be able brag about cheering for the 18 year old rookie who wouldve ended up being the youngest driver to ever win a piston cup, but for the most part some of those fans had to be grasping at straws to defend his honour and their own. however, at the tie breaker race (this is where sportsmanship and emotional maturity come in) his act with strip weathers would have gained him way more fans — a lot of them coming from strip to cheer for lightning after the king retires. also, having a historically famous piston cup driver as your crew chief most definitely gained him even more traction and affection.

maybe his next season his anger issues begin dying out with care, and those knee-jerk reactions stop becoming as common, but its just human nature to be angry with people you think are stupid, so hes not all innocent.

anyways, he still definitely doesnt have a clean driving slate. no driver does, to be fair, they’ll always be hated for something or other - but i feel lightning is still on the less hated and problematic side (along with both cal and bobby — those two are relatively tame compared to him, they may be even less hated than he is)

for a little while after he comes to radiator springs, lightning definitely is in a constant state of fight or flight (mostly flight)

it comes with the trauma of being neglected and rejected repeatedly, hes terrified the the town will do the same thing to him that his parents did — or they’ll be just like the people he wanted to desperately to be friends with — so on, and so forth.

it also comes with the unmasking process — getting insanely overstimulated insanely quickly because being tied down feels Crowding . and having this many people care about you, to the point it ends in almost constant conversation with someone, can start to feel suffocating. and the fact he cant prepare himself for the day anymore because its such an out of wack routine doesnt help one bit.

so, he needs an escape.

its dumb, kind of, and sometimes his little adventures around the desert suffice enough, but it starts becoming more of an issue and he starts needing somewhere repetitive to go.

the cow fields just on the county line, the gravel road that leads to a deserted farmhouse, its age showing in each plank of wood that hangs off its nails, rotting from the rain and weather, grains of sand embed in each crack — lightning finds comfort in one of those empty fields.

first, its leaving to go sit in the long grass, pulling little bits and pieces of it out of the dirt and taking interest in how, somehow, after years of abandonment, it seems to thrive - how the cows keep living, being fed occasionally by mater, but for the most part just surviving off of the grass in their pen. he wonders why they stay. - he would find himself watching the sun disappear behind the mountains and cliffs of cadillac range, taking deep breaths, basking in the sound of the wind whistling and crickets chirping.

when his fears start getting worse, he steals one of the plastic lawn chairs out of docs shed and leaves it out there, sometimes stealing a beer out of the fridge despite how much he hates them. he rarely drinks them anyways, maybe a few sips or so for enough of a buzz to get rid of the anxiety in his bones, but otherwise he always gets home with a bottle still half full, going to waste down the drain.

doc never worries about this. its a part of the process of teaching someone that Some People in the world arent out to get them — sometimes people genuinely mean it with their care — so he can understand that these mini getaways are just his kid taking time to calm down, rationalize, and figure stuff out.

as the months pass, he becomes less terrified, he doesnt need to really disappear anymore, he starts taking sally out there with him. he lays a blanket in the grass and they stare at the sky together in silence.

the longer he stays out there in that field, the more he realizes hes here to stay. he doesnt need to come out here to calm down, instead he can sit in his bedroom and breathe.

eventually, that plastic lawn chair is deserted in that field, the smooth, white surface becoming scratchy and dirty with rain and wind. no one goes out to clean it, because no one needs it anymore.

Here’s an ask related to Doc.

How do you think he felt knowing that famous racers like The King and Lightning considered him their inspiration?

i think he probably felt a bit of unease.

its one thing to have your career torn away from you in an accident that has continued to effect your life daily, but it sure cant be great to learn that famous drivers today use your story as inspiration for them to achieve that level in the sport that betrayed you so long ago.

but, i also believe doc cant bring himself to care all that much. its just discomfort around his own trauma mainly, and he cant find it in himself to be picky and tell people what they can and cant use as inspiration. some part of him may feel even a bit of pride — definitely more pride after lightning sticks around and doc is able to rediscover his love for racing — but maybe that little part of him before all of that found a small ounce of comfort in being recognized as a pioneer for the sport, being recognized as a world record setter. maybe, just maybe, in those moments of clarity where he’d think about how cool it actually kind of was that people admired him, he’d think about home and wonder if They were proud of him too. he’d wonder if his family, that little group of five minus one, still thought of him, if they even remembered him anymore.

after the events of cars 1, when doc finally finds it in himself to come out of his shell, that discomfort surrounding how he feels about his past starts to dissipate and he’s able to more thoroughly accept that despite all the bad that happened to him, hes still here, and hes the setter of a world record.

I propose this:

The 2D animated Nascar show taking place in 2021 during the gen 6 era right before the switch to the next gen car. It follows the journey of Chase Elliot, Bubba Wallace, and Ryan Blaney, (choose em cause they were on the Cover of Nascar 21: Ignition) in the 2021 season and dives deep into the beef carrying from off the track and into the garage area.

What do you think memory?

im not quite sure if im misinterpreting, but i think ryan, chase, and bubba are a bad example beef-wise 😭 theyre very well known to be a trio in the sport (having grown up together, raced in xfinity together, etc..) i think it’d be better off as something like chase & dennys beef or something to that effect.

the off season can get boring.

lightning hates being bored.

it’s sort of like his own personal hell, and on those chilly winter days when theres not a flake of snow but you can feel it in the air, he wishes he was still able to run late model races like he did before the piston cup. back then, he could still find a track running races in a little bit of chilly weather and he could get out and do some laps, but the piston cup doesnt work like that - they dont run in the winter, FOUR MONTHS of sitting around doing nothing until the fireball 500, and it drives him mad.

he Needs to be moving, and running around isnt what hes talking about. he needs to be in the dirt, driving at 200 mph like his life depends on it, winning something, competing in something…

doc is quick to pick up on this restlessness. you cant just live in the same house as a teenager and not feel the tension in the air when he gets told he needs to take a break. and, because lightning is his kid and he knows him better than anyone, he knows EXACTLY what lightning is longing for.

its cold, the sun is barely above the mountains of cadillac range, and lightning is sitting on the front porch in his rusteze racing jacket playing with that stupid gas station lighter that never seems to run out of fluid. doc steps out onto the porch, car keys in one hand, crutch around his opposite forearm. hes a man with a plan to get this restless kid some racing time.

kingman raceway isnt too far, maybe two hours, and doc is well aware of the schedule that lizzie plasters on her window every winter when the spokesman for the track pops into town to drop off flyers. today is a sprint race, and if hes not gonna sign lightning up to do SOMETHING then he’d be the worst father in the world.

he doesnt have a sprint car, but doc happens to know a guy, and everything is already set up. he gets lightning in the car and theyre on their way to kingman - the 19 year old in his ear the whole way asking him “where are we going?” “please tell me its not an interview, i’ll lose my mind, doc.”

“just wait.” is all he can say.

lightning raced stock and late models, not sprint, and doc can feel the slight disappointment when they pull into the track and the peculiar looking sprint cars are sitting on trailers or parked outside the garage door of the shop.

they get out and stretch before doc leads him to the ticket booth, where they’re greeted by a kind older woman, who seemingly recognizes him and ushers the two to the garage.

lightning is confused. what is even happening right now? doc is striking up conversation with some random guy and lightning is left wandering, looking around, watching the mechanics and tense drivers work away on their cars..

then, a waiver and a pen are shoved into his hands, and doc stands there with a sly grin. “you wanted to race, didnt you?”

“well, yeah. i dont know how to drive a sprint car though.”

“trust me, kiddo, you’ll get it”

Speaking of Sally and Flo, do you think they would get along with Lynda?

What parts of the town would she like best and what would her favorite thing to do with the girls be?

oh definitely!!

i think sally moreso would get along with lynda, but thats just because sally is at a majority of the races (as is lynda) so they get more time to bond, over flo and lynda who probably dont see each other much.

flo and lynda could bond over being “parents” in a way, because cal is technically lyndas nephew and sally technically ISNT related by blood to flo, but they’d definitely have conversations about their pseudo children like moms gushing about their kids at sports games, do you get me??

lynda would probably think that the cozy cone was ADORABLE. she’d also be a big fan of docs racing museum, but otherwise the only other places she knows are flos café and flo and ramones house!!

also, she’d 100% donate some old racing stuff to flo. like pictures of strip or other 70s racers, or newspapers from races won in the past, etc!!
