Day 21 | #30daysofcreativepractice with @wendybrightbill Art Prompt - CUT AND PASTE ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I have loved collage ever since I can remember. When I was young, I think around 4th grade, my teacher had us create collages with construction paper and my "vase filled with flowers" won first place. I was so excited but that soon faded when I overheard the girl next to me say that I only won because my mom snuck in and helped me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My mom helped me, but only in that she always encouraged my creative endeavors and supported me each time I wanted to try something new. Day 11 | TURNING POINT with @taraleaver and #21daysinmyartworld ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There was a turning point in my evolution as an artist that was very unexpected. I took a class with mixed media artist, Traci Bautista in Hampton, VA, where I was teaching at an art retreat. Up to that point, my style was very vintage and lacked color and vibrancy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Traci taught me how to embrace color in a way that stopped me in my tracks. My world was literally exploding with vibrant color and after class I filled my hotel room with works of saturated color. Every surface in my room was covered with drying art pieces. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That experienced changed how I viewed color and myself. I realized that I had been shying away from the use of color as I felt that was the domain of “real artists.” My fears and presuppositions were erased and my confidence grew. I became a different artist that day, embracing both color and my talent in a new way. How do you know when your art is finished? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That changes for me with each piece. I tend to be a slow creator so things take me a bit of time to complete. It is kind of hard to explain, but the more I create, the more obvious it becomes. There is something in me that just "sees" that it is finished. Now, there are times when I have to set things aside and come back to them. When I revisit them with fresh eyes, it is usually more obvious. Day 10 | ARTIST HANDS with @taraleaver and #21daysinmyartworld ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Christ was an artist. As a carpenter, he worked with his hands to build things. He was an artist and I am an artist -- How cool is that? I am blessed to have discovered my gift for creating and am thankful I get to use it each day to bring glory to Him through helping others realize their creative potential. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I used to struggle to define my ministry and all along it was right in front of me. Christmas was a bit different for us this year! Friends we made while visiting Belgium came to spend their holiday with us! Sad it has come to an end. Packing up all decorations today and feeling a bit sad it is over. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Christmas highlights: •Once again, my tree died before we made it to Christmas day. No more live trees for us! •Christmas caroling that brought tears of joy to some. •Candle light service with beautiful voices lifting songs of praise to God. •Games with friends: puzzles, #qwerkle, #catchphrase and trivia. •Bag Party with friends. @sandikeene •Wonderful house guests who came all the way from England to spend Christmas with us! @claireann0507 •Ornament exchange - the pickle made an appearance. •Art time •Movies, popcorn and cookies •Beach visits, fresh fish for dinner and stone crab claws for snacking. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And so much more that made the last few weeks extra special.
