[ LEE JIEUN, DEMIGIRL, SHE/THEY ]    well, if it isn’t nerilla baron, our resident DISTRICT 12 STYLIST ! i’m so excited to see what they’ll be bringing to the table this year. they’re twenty six years old, & they’ve been in this position for less than a year. i hope they’re ready for the publicity — the tabloids have already started talking about them ! anyways, i got to meet them once, & they’re a lot like the satisfying pop of a champagne bottle, remember: snakes in the grass don’t always resemble snakes, a light in your eyes that glints not like the stars but like a knife, the hollow stillness in the air just after a camera flash.

great-grandchild of one of the first gamemakers, nerilla belongs to a long line of capitol greats. their family is mostly notorious for their work in the hunger games, and very rarely do any of the barons take a job that isn’t somehow directly tied to the games; their brother, for example, is a painter who remakes particularly popular scenes from the games. 

so, growing up, they found themselves in the lap of luxury. they had no need to work for anything; if she wanted something, she got it. there was only one rule in the home: be good. if you were good, you were set for life. 

originally, nerilla did not want to be a stylist. she wanted to be a painter, but her brother was already well on his way to doing so, and a rule of being good was no competing with each other. assuming styling people would be the next best thing, she was thrown to work by her parents, immediately placed as an assistant to one of the oldest game stylists working at the time. here, they found a love for the occupation that was all but forced upon them; they were still making art, but now someone could wear it on their body. fashion is statements. how better to communicate ?

nerilla grew in popularity very quickly, but, to the dismay of their family, refrained from becoming a games stylist, instead taking jobs from high-paying & esteemed capitol clients. they, blatantly, denied their parent’s insistence to style for the games. they did not say why, but the thought of dressing someone to send them off to slaughter made them sick. for a while they did do some game-inspired outfits for clients, but stopped because, again, for some reason it gave her a guilty conscience. 

she’s in the right place in the wrong time when it happens. a party. a slip of the tongue, a case of mistaken identity, perhaps even a deliberate act. this person changes nerilla’s perspective on everything. it happens so quickly, one moment betrayal leaves someone’s mouth, and suddenly nerilla’s like a spark that’s been lit up, with the sudden, incredible realization: yes, this should be changed. 

it’s dangerous. it’s idiotic. it’s the very antithesis of being good, and yet they can’t help it. everything about panem is wrong. for the first time, they put into words their disgust with the treatment of the districts. 

applying to be a stylist in the next games was the logical step. get close to those in power, closer to those without. her name recognition, their work recognition - all enough to have landed them a spot in a career district, maybe, but they shut that idea down. they wanted to experience the worst. they wanted to see it. 

okay thsi is going to be nigh incoherent but. u know colette from ratatouille ? edna mode ? that’s nerilla. very strict. very much likes things their way. 

she’s also Very Scary, and it doesn’t help that she dresses Very Scary. this is on purpose. only the bravest of crows reap the rewards from approaching scarecrows, and nerilla has no patience for cowardice. also i feel like most people in the capitol who dress eccentrically do it with bright clothing ? WHERE ARE THE GOTHS SUZANNE. 

they will literally never say it but they care... a lot. about their work, about other people. they’re just very tough-love about it.

their brother.... pl e ase.. . . .. THEIR BROTHER ! he’s a painter and very pro-capitol and i imagine him as someone who looks/acts all sunshine and rainbows but is every much Evil. they’re close for now, they have been since they were children, but as the rebellion kicks off their relationship will go sour so quickly. please. Sibling Angst. also i imagine he’s like a year younger or their twin but he can be older if u want.

one of calpurnia’s first memories is bringing flowers she’d picked to her father’s bed as he lay sick, her grandmother’s firm hand on her shoulder keeping her stuck to the ground, unable to leap forward and hug him desperately.

both of calpurnia’s parents died when she was very young, of disease, according to her grandmother. she knows nothing else except that. with their deaths, she was placed in the care of her only living relative, her loving grandmother. her incredibly rich grandmother. her grandmother who may or may not have gotten said wealth from shady business practices with the capitol while fronting as a jeweler. 

her grandmother, presumably due to losing her son and daughter-in-law so close to one another, was a very nervous woman. she let calpurnia train like any other career, but she made it explicitly clear she was under no circumstance to volunteer. ever. 

so, in the academy, nia put in minimal effort. she did well enough to pass, but she never tried to compete for a top spot; still, somehow, she was one of the best. this also did not matter to nia, a fact which was probably a sore spot to everyone who tried to encourage her to participate in the games. 

and then. well, calpurnia was always a flirt. but this girl ? her and nia had something real. nia loved her. & after a year-long whirlwind romance, when her name was called ? nia couldn’t handle it. she volunteered. to the world, the actions of a career looking for glory. privately, the desperate act of a girl in love.

the girl did not come to visit nia as she was waiting to be sent off into the games. she never heard from her again. but her grandmother came, even though she was utterly destroyed, and she begged nia to win. to come back to her. nia promised she would; and she’d never broken a promise. 

WHAT TO SAY ABOUT THE 71ST HUNGER GAMES. nia went in as a nineteen year old promising...ish career who thrived by displaying a fun, ditzy personality pre-arena, a persona she’d keep alive even when in the arena. because a soft fool of a girl was an easy target. because it would make others come to her. 

i haven’t.. . .. . figured this out entirely but i wanna say the arena was very tropical rainforest-esque, and one of the big gamemaker moves against the tributes was literally flushing them out with rainfall so heavy and long it flooded the arena until only whoever was lucky enough to pick the highest trees were left. lots of venemous/dangerous animals, an extreme amount of humidity, and so much foliage the tributes needed a miracle to be able to move anywhere undetected.

calpurnia officially wins on her twentieth birthday, though she wouldn’t find that out until much later. she’d managed to seduce her district partner, having a star-crossed love of the ages. a fantastic decision: he got rid of most of the other careers for her, save for a district 4 girl she had to finish off with her knives. in the end, there were three left: her, a district 6 girl, and him. the district 6 girl was an easy kill, her partner snapping the poor girl’s neck. he’d looked at calpurnia with wide eyes and asked, breathless, “what now?”

and calpurnia, sweet, silly calpurnia, put her hand on his chest. leaned in. brushed her lips against his. told him not to worry, because she would make the ultimate sacrifice. and proceeded stabbed him three times in the heart. and then she kept stabbing him, because suddenly she’d been filled with an indescribable anger - at him, for being tricked so easily. at herself, for doing this to him. but now that she’d killed him, the show was over. everything would go back to normal; better, even. 

or so she thought. calpurnia, despite her betrayal, had won the capitol’s hearts. she’s a capitol darling, still. when she won the hunger games, it wasn’t the final act of a hero’s journey: it was the first act of a tragedy.

she goes on. she’s less of a girl and more of a puppet. she’s giggles and smiles and softness, which is ridiculous because she murdered dozens of other people in cold blood, and sometimes her hands itch to do it again. what she wants is to rage, to demand, to be not a puppet or a girl but a monster feared by the capitol. but. but she won’t. who will take care of her grandmother if not her ? 

she’s not a good person by any means. when she hears whispers of a rebellion, she listens. follows the trail. but it’s not because she cares for what they have to say; it’s because the rebellion can give her the hot-blooded revenge she wants.

so i might send in an actual wc for this, BUT ALSO IF YOU’RE READING THIS AND THINKING ABOUT MAKING A DISTRICT TWO MUSE, i’d love to see the girl who calpurnia fell in love with. i like the idea that maybe this muse wanted to be in the games, and calpurnia taking that from them was seen as a betrayal, but honestly this is.. . .. completely up to you !

I AM ONCE AGAIN ASKING FOR PLATONIC SOULMATES. preferably someone from the capitol who she met during her games ? this is someone who, despite their differences, is probably the person closest to nia other than her grandmother. they’re also probably the only one who knows just how much inner turmoil she’s in, and maybe they have their own giant issues that only nia knows about or is willing to understand. eventually, they’ll either be pro-rebellion by themselves or with nia’s help; regardless, they won’t leave each other’s sides. it’s a bond that’s very rare and kind of unexplainable but they’re It for each other ( PLATONICALLY PLEASE ) 

i want. a fellow victor & her to have a Hate On Sight relationship. it might have a Certain Tension it might not but there’s something about these two that seems to naturally clash, maybe it’s even because they’re actually Similar in some ways ? i just.. . ..Love Enemies

when asmodeus silvinus and pearl blueleaf came together in marriage, they had only one goal in mind : to produce a victor. pearl had once been picked for the games, but someone else had volunteered, and asmodeus just wanted the bragging rights honor of having a child he could call a winner. 

mateo was born exactly a year after his brother, kaleb. from that moment, he was made to be a killer. a monster. a winner. kaleb was the prized child, though. the one who his parents put all their faith in. mateo was only second best; the backup.

no matter how much he tried, in the academy his brother was always better. quicker. stronger. smarter. mateo would train twice as hard and somehow come out worse than before. and when the moment of truth came, it was kaleb who graduated top of the class, kaleb who volunteered for the games. kaleb who would become a victor.

and then, live, mateo watched his brother’s skull get pummeled in by another tribute. not even a career, just some frightened district 7 boy who was just a little quicker. a little stronger. a little smarter. it was the first time he’d ever felt something like horror while watching the games.

now, it’s mateo with the weight of victory on his shoulders. top of his class, just like his brother. next year he won’t be eligible to volunteer, so he knows what he has to do. how could he face his parents if he doesn’t ? how could he face his brother’s grave ?

mateo struggles a lot. after his brother’s death, he’s begun to doubt the games as something that’s needed, but he’d never voice this. he’s equally troubled when he thinks about the upcoming games; he has so much on his plate. his parent’s legacies. his brother’s. dying seems like less of an abstract horror and more of a punishment, a retaliation of what he’s long since known to be true: he’s just not good enough. but equally terrifying is this: the thought of him becoming so cold, so cruel, a monster that would gleefully bash someone’s head in. most chilling of all: the lingering voice in the corners of his mind that whispers, you already are.

mateo is, uh, kind of scary ? not just because he’s a career - he’s just scary in general, with his permanent scowl and quiet demeanor. 

he’s also. very much good at Everything, at least everything he was trained for, because. well. he had to be, if he wanted to live up to his brother. mateo definitely thinks less of his skills and thus downplays them. maybe some will see this as an attempt to throw people off, but he genuinely doesn’t feel like he’s good at Anything. 

physical combat comes easy to him, but because, As Mentioned, he’s scary, he likes to use long-range weapons like spears since nobody really wants to get close to him. 

he’s also very....... .. . . . .. Mysterious. apollo is someone who feigns being the Dark Mysterious Boy, but mateo embodies it: it’s not an act, it’s a self-defense mechanism. why would he be vulnerable to a group of people who will be dead in the blink of an eye ?

RANDOM TIDBIT THAT WILL. EVENTUALLY BECOME IMPORTANT. WINK WINK. ever since he was a child, he’s wished on stars for good luck. every time he does it he feels ridiculous, but they haven’t steered him wrong yet - and hey, sometimes it’s good to have hope.

i desperately want him to ally with other careers & very much be an outsider even within them. they keep him around because he’s Terrifying and he could be incredibly Useful in the games, but it’s like having a panther around at all times. just a lot of him skulking and grunting and being emo. also i just like the frenemy dynamic of career alliances.

someone, somewhere in the capitol, who either knows about the rebellion or has rebellious sentiments & they somehow meet and just. before he goes into the games i want my boy to realize this is Wrong once and for all. and, u know, if he lives, it’s a nice way of having a connection to the rebellion.

venka’s life has always been so monotonous. filled with constants. a constant: lumber. a constant: an empty home. a constant: her father’s distance. a constant: the lack of a mother. surely she exists, somewhere, but she’s always been less of a person and more of a myth to her daughter. 

her father, too, is something that’s not quite a person. he’s there, but is he really ? she’s practically had to raise herself. and that’s fine; it’s taught her a lot of important lessons. how to be independent. how to treat a wound by yourself. how to cook. what to eat. what not to eat.

venka is... eccentric to say the least. i like to call her Annoying Foxface, in that she’s very clever, very smart & can pick up on skills quickly, but she’s also...... . . .incredibly annoying. loves cracking jokes at the wrong time, being loud ( n-not in the arena, hopefully ) & overall being a nuisance. the lack of attention has made her into a creature that craves it. if there’s one positive to her being in the games, it’s that finally, for once in her life, people will be watching.

she’s very skilled with axes & slightly skilled in survival ( she knows forests, at least ). super independent. lots of people in district seven might even place their bets on her if they could. none of this matters to venka, though; she’s here for a good time, not a long time. 

that said.... she doesn’t see herself making it out. she won’t give up instantly, she’ll still try to make it as far as she can - but when she returns, she’ll have no one waiting for her. a lot of the other tributes do. and she’s not sure she can handle doing that to those families, to look someone’s grieving mother in the eye and say, i’m here and alone and i broke your family.

tiny but mighty. rumor has it she can devour an entire plate of rolls in ten seconds. rumor also has it if you annoy her enough she’ll bite you. 

venka’s face is scarred from an incident with an axe when she was young. it’s a long, thin, pale scar running from her nose to the corner of her mouth. Do Not Mention The Scar.

first of all ALLIANCES, especially an unlikely alliance. i think once she actually gets into the arena, assuming she’s not killed off quickly, she could show a certain prowess for Somehow Not Dying Through The Oddest But Impressively Clever Means (  once again, think foxface  ). i can see her making an unlikely alliance w someone who maybe makes up for her weaknesses and vice versa. 

i think,,, it would be neat if she managed to piss off a tribute enough, maybe a career, that in the arena they have a big vendetta for her. definitely a ‘it’s on sight’ type thing.

someone she gets close to once she reaches the capitol. a mentor, a friend, ANYTHING. she thinks there’ll be no one waiting for her to return if she wins, but this person is, & if she dies then u know... Angst !

the oldest zale boy, a golden boy. his entire life, he’s tried very hard to emulate their father while also be better than him at protecting & providing for their family. he’s very guarded & feels that he needs to be in order to protect his family; he might come off as cold & uncaring at first glance, but he’s a big softie. it’s just.... Complicated !

loves bodies of water. as a babe, he never got an affinity for swimming like many other kids in the district, but when he was six, he somehow snuck from home to follow his father during a fishing trip and almost drowned  ;  instead of letting fear rule him, he used the incident to inspire a fine tune a love for the water. his father would joke that apollo has One True Love and it’s the sea.

because his name won’t get picked and he doesn’t volunteer, he’s finally edged out of the hunger games after this year; unfortunately for him, his siblings will all still be eligible. this is the knowledge that haunts him at night. he’s had nightmares about sending his younger siblings to die.

so of course when that biggest nightmare happens he’ll absolutely break inside. the words i volunteer might even reach the tip of his tongue, but he just can’t. all he can do is watch with slow, unfolding horror, feeling utterly useless. utterly powerless. 

like i said, he’s pretty aloof towards most people outside of his family, but what’s actually a ruse is seen by a lot of people in the district as a mysterious Dark Boy & he’s become very popular as people try to get him to open up,,,, Romantically. i’m talking the zale home got flooded with love letters once. 

with his siblings i joke that he’s definitely the We Got Food At Home brother. he just. loves his siblings ! and they just bring him constant stress  (  PERSEUS.  ) ! def a mother hen. that said, while most of the time he presents himself as the responsible older one, when he does get in trouble it’s somehow worse than anything his siblings could do (  see again  :  near death experience at six  ).

whether nixie makes it through the games or not, when the rebellion starts, he’ll be very cautious - not because he doesn’t believe in the cause, but because any support he provides could and would put his family in danger. i imagine once his brothers indicate that they’re also All In he’ll actually start to become more brazen.

he’s v intelligent and a p good leader/strategist when he’s not being Cautious so as he throws that to the wind i can see him developing his leadership skills more & possibly getting HIGHLY involved with the rebellion

it’s nice to have a friend. this is someone who knows apollo to his core. his artemis if u will hehehe. he trusts this person entirely. honestly this is v v open as long as they’re from district four, i just want him to have somebody he call tell everything to & who can trust him back. if they’re younger than him than he’s also probably super worried abt them & thg & in general he’s as protective as he is over his family. i like to think that they work together and are practically attached at the hip; where x goes apollo will follow and so on. doesn’t have to turn romantic or be romantic but u know... .. . . . if u want. .. . .

i am now begging for a self indulgent crush wc. apollo’s pretty popular, like i said. but this person. OH, THIS PERSON. if the sea was his first love, this person is the second. there’s just one problem: they don’t know he likes them. & unlike many other people, they haven’t even tried to flirt with him. he’s sure they don’t like him back - maybe they don’t ! that’s up to you ! - and it’s keeping him from being bold. again this doesn’t have to turn romantic and i actually. would Really Love for this to have a platonic end.

those are my big two but i’d love to plot anything past / present / future. some other ideas are: enemies or rivals, an ex who left him bc he was either overprotective or because he just. didn’t devote time to them properly, someone he looks up to.
